SSC Combined Graduate Level (CGL) Examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) every year to recruit eligible candidates for various Group ‘B’ and ‘C’ posts in the union ministries, government departments and premier government organizations of the Government of India.

 SSC has revised the selection process for the SSC CGL recruitment process by last year. i.e. in 2022.  Previously, the SSC CGL Selection Process consisted of four tiers or stages. However, the exam conducting authorities have introduced changes in SSC CGL 2023 exam pattern and selection process. As per the latest SSC CGL 2023 selection process is divided into two stages i.e. Tier 1, and Tier 2.  The SSC CGL Exam is usually held in two stages or two tiers — SSC CGL Tier I Exam and SSC CGL Tier II Exam. SSC CGL 2023 Revised Syllabus and Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission is a government body responsible for conducting the SSC CGL examination. The Combined Graduate Level examination is held annually to recruit personnel to various posts under the government. All information regarding the examination, including the SSC CGL exam pattern 2023, is published on the official website of the commission (ssc.nic.in). SSC (Staff Selection Commission) has recently changed the Exam Pattern for the SSC CGL from the upcoming SSC CGL Recruitment 2023. 

Previously SSC CGL Recruitment will consist of 4 Tier Exam Pattern which is now changed to 2 Tier Exam Pattern for the SSC CGL Recruitment from the year 2022.

SSC CGL Selection Process for Tier 1

  • SSC CGL selection process comprosies of two stages : SSC CGL Tier 1 & SSC CGL Tier 2
  • SSC CGL Tier 1 examination evaluates candidates’ proficiency in four subjects: Quantitative Aptitude, English, Reasoning, and General Knowledge.
  • SSC CGL Tier 1 is a computer-based multiple-choice exam comprises 100 questions, with 25 questions in each subject and the total time alloted for for SSC CGL 2203 Tier 1 examination is 60 minutes
    Each correct answer carries 2 marks, while an incorrect response leads to a negative marking of 0.5 marks.

It is important to note that Tier 1 of the SSC CGL selection process is not merely a qualifying paper. The scores obtained in Tier 1 play a significant role in the overall selection process as the scores plays an important role in the Tier 2 and Final Merit List.

SSC CGL Exam Pattern Pattern for Tier 1

The SSC CGL exam pattern/scheme is determined by the Staff Selection commission (SSC) and published on the official website. All revisions and changes in the pattern are also conveyed to the candidates through the website.

  • The tier 1 examination contains multiple-choice, objective-type questions. All questions in the examination, except the English Comprehension, are in English and Hindi both. 
  • For every incorrect answer, there is a negative marking/penalty of 0.5 marks.

SSC CGL Selection Process for Tier II

According to the latest SSC CGL 2023 Recruitment notification, SSC CGL Tier 2 will consist of 3 Papers. Paper 1 will be compulsory for all candidates, irrespective of the posts they are applying for. While SSC CGL Tier 2 is mandatory for JSO posts, and Paper 3 is for Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the SSC Combined Graduate-Level (CGL ) Examination every year for direct recruitment of Group B and Group C posts to various departments and ministries of the Indian Government. The SSC CGL Exam is one of the biggest government examinations that recruit a vast number of graduates in India for government positions.

  • The SSC CGL Exam is usually held in two stages or two tiers — SSC CGL Tier I Exam and SSC CGL Tier II Exam.
  • The SSC will conduct the  SSC CGL Tier I Exam 2023 from 14th July to 27th July 2023
  • The SSC CGL Tier II Exam 2023 will be a computer-based examination.
  • SSC CGL Tier II (Paper I)  is Compulsory for all posts.
  • Paper I of the SSC CGL Tier II Exam 2023 will be conducted in two sessions — Session I and Session II.
  • Session I of Paper I of the SSC CGL Tier II Exam 2023 will be conducted for 2 hours and 15 minutes. This Session I consists of three sections.
  • There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer on Paper I of the SSC CGL Tier II Exam 2023.
  • There will be a negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer on Paper II and Paper III of the SSC CGL Tier II Exam 2022.
