Two-day Global Conference on Compressed Biogas commenced in New Delhi

  • A two-day Global Conference on Compressed Biogas commenced in New Delhi.
  • The Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said, the theme of the Conference is – “Towards Progressive Policy Framework for a Robust CBG Foundation and Growth.
  • The objective of this Conference is to apprise the industry regarding the initiatives taken by the Central Government for the development of the Compressed Biogas Industry and to identify the areas where policy modifications are required. 
  • India is dedicated to achieving a net zero target by 2070 and the Government has taken several initiatives to reduce emissions.
  • Compressed Biogas has also an important role in emission reduction and it is being promoted by Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation Scheme.

G20 Session

  • Shillong hosted the two days G20 “Space Economy Leaders Meeting”.
  • G20 Sherpa, Amitabh Kant, Union Minister of State in-charge Prime Minister Office, Dr. Jitendra Singh and Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the session.
  • Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) of the Department of Space is organising the precursor event of the fourth edition of Space Economy Leaders Meeting (SELM with active support from Government of Meghalaya and India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

India, Peru held 2nd Joint Commission Meeting

  • The 2nd India-Peru Joint Commission Meeting was held in New Delhi in which both sides reviewed their traditionally friendly relations and discussed ways to take forward cooperation in areas of mutual interest including trade and investments.
  • The meeting was co-chaired by Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry, Saurabh Kumar and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ignacio Higueras.
  • Peru – Lima (Capital) – Peruvian sol (Currency) – Dina Boluarte (President) – Alberto Otárola (Prime Minister) – Spanish (Language)

India, Japan and France announce common platform for Sri Lanka creditors

  • Japan, India and France have announced a common platform for talks among bilateral creditors to coordinate restructuring of Sri Lanka’s debt.
  • The move is expected to serve as a model for solving the debt woes of middle-income economies.
  • Sri Lanka owes 7.1 billion dollar to bilateral creditors, with 3 billion dollar owed to China, followed by 2.4 billion dollar to the Paris Club and 1.6 billion dollar to India, according to official data from Sri Lankan government.

Assam’s Bihu dance creates history, enters Guinness Book of World Records

  • Assam created history and marked its entry in the Guinness Book of World Records, with more than 11000 dancers and drummers performing ‘Bihu’ dance and playing ‘dhol’ in a single venue.
  • During the event, the performers included singers, along with those playing the state’s traditional instruments, such as Taal, Dhol, Gogona, Pepa, Toka, and Xutuli, and more.
  • All the participants,including the master trainers and dancers, will be receiving a grant of INR 25,000 for participating in the historic event.

Himachal becomes '1st state' to create DNA database of unidentified bodies

  • Himachal Pradesh has become the ”first state” to create a DNA database of unidentified bodies.
  • The process was started in April 2022 and so far records of 150 DNA samples of unidentified bodies have been stored in the database.

  • The Saurashtra Tamil Sangamam began with great zeal and enthusiasm at Somnath in Gujarat.
  • The ten-day long cultural extravaganza was inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in the presence of Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupendra Patel and Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
  • The programme is being organised under Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat to foster the age-old cultural bond between Gujarat and Tamilnadu.

WPI eases to 30-month low in March on easing input prices

  • India’s annual wholesale-price based inflation (WPI) eased to the lowest in nearly 30 months, as input prices continued to moderate.
  • WPI in March was 1.34 per cent year-on-year, lower than 3.85 per cent in the previous month and a Reuters poll of 1.87 per cent.
  • The inflation was 3.85 per cent in February and 14.63 per cent in March 2022.
  • In March, the food index rose 2.32 per cent year-on-year compared with 2.76 per cent in February, while fuel and power rose 8.96 per cent, slowing from the 14.82 per cent rate.

IIT Indore develops low-cost camera in collaboration with Nasa, Caltech

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore in collaboration with the NASA-Caltech from the US and Sweden’s University of Gothenburg has developed a low-cost camera setup which can provide multispectral imaging of four chemical species in a flame using single DSLR camera.
  • Using only a single DSLR camera, it can simultaneously capture multiple spectral three-dimensional images of four chemical species in a flame, whereas earlier scientific imaging required a complex system with four cameras, said Devendra Deshmukh, professor with the IIT Indore’s Department of Mechanical Engineering.
  • The cost of developing the device, put together by a five-member team of researchers, was around Rs 50,000.

Researchers from Central University of Odisha find new freshwater edible fish from Koraput

  • The researchers of the Central University of Odisha (CUO), Koraput, and the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) recently found a rare freshwater edible fish from the Kolab River at Ghatguda, Koraput.
  • This cyprinid fish species was named Garra laishrami.
  • The new species is named after Dr. Laishram Kosygin of the Zoological Survey of India to honour his remarkable contributions to understanding the taxonomy of Indian freshwater fishes.
  • The maximum length of the fish is from 76 mm to 95.5 mm.
  • The fishes are usually found under rocks and among stones and boulders of torrential streams and rivers.

Credai, Indian Green Building Council to erect 4,000 projects by 2030

  • The Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (Credai) has tied up with Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to build 1,000 certified green projects across India in the next two years, and 4,000 projects by 2030, by adopting of IGBC Green & Net Zero building ratings.
  • The announcement was made at Credai’s investiture ceremony, in which Boman Irani was named the new president of Credai National for 2023-2025.
  • This tie-up between Credai and IGBC will add over 400,000 green housing units across the country and will be certified by IGBC.

  • Kellogg India Pvt. Ltd, announced the appointment of Vinay Subramanyam as the Head of Marketing for its business in India and South Asia markets, which includes Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

  • Brand Finance’s annual report on the most valuable and strongest automobile, auto component, tyre and mobility 2023 analyses the value of brands in these industries.
  • MRF Ltd has emerged as the second-strongest tyre brand in the world according to the latest report by Brand Finance on the ‘Most Valuable and Strongest Tyre Brands’ in the world.
  • MRF has scored high in almost all parameters and is also featured as the second fastest-growing tyre brand in the world.
  • It has scored 83.2 out of 100 in brand strength and was awarded a AAA- brand rating.
  • The report, which also names MRF as the most valued Indian tyre brand, says that it scored high in the Sustainability Perception Value and is the only Indian tyre manufacturer to be featured in the top 10.

Kagiso Rabada scripts history, becomes fastest to take 100 IPL wickets

  • Kagiso Rabada became the fastest bowler to take 100th wicket in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during match between Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans at IS Bindra Stadium in his 64th match.
  • Previously Lasith Malinga, took his 100-wicket mark in his 70th match.

Hardik Pandya 6th player to score 2,000-plus runs, bag 50 wickets in IPL

  • India and Gujarat Titans all-rounder Hardik Pandya has become the second Indian player and sixth player overall to achieve a double of 2,000-plus runs and 50 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
  • The star all-rounder accomplished this during his side’s IPL 2023 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
  • In 111 matches so far in an IPL career, which has seen him represent Mumbai Indians and GT since his debut in 2015, Pandya has scored 2,012 runs at an average of 29.16 and a strike rate of 146.33.

Shaili Singh qualifies for Asian Games

  • At the Indian Grand Prix-4 in Bengaluru, Shaili Singh won in the women’s long jump.
  • With a personal best of 6.76 meters, she is now the holder of the 2nd longest jump in India’s history and has qualified for the Asian Games.
  • Murali Sreeshankar holds the national record of 8.36 metres set in 2022.

  • World Hemophilia Day is annually observed on April 17th to commemorate the birthday of Frank Schnabel, who founded the World Federation of Hemophilia.
  • Hemophilia is a rare disease characterized by the inability of the blood to clot properly due to a deficiency in specific clotting factors, resulting in prolonged bleeding that can be life-threatening in certain cases.
  • World Haemophilia Day was started by the World Federation of Haemophilia in 1989.
