National News
G20 Session
- Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways General (Retd.) V K Singh inaugurated the G20 Meeting of Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) in Varanasi.
- The MACS is the 100th G20 Meeting During India’s G20 Presidency.
- The G20 second Digital Economy Working Group meeting had begun in Hyderabad.
- With a focus on digital public infrastructure, cyber security and skilling, about 140 delegates from member countries, invitee countries and international organisations will be deliberating upon various issues during the three-day meeting.
Central government notified Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023
- The Central government notified the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023.
- The rules have addressed the Supreme Court guidelines in a writ petition between the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and the People for Elimination of Stray Troubles.
- As per the Rules, Animal Birth Control programme for sterilization and immunization of stray dogs are to be carried out by local bodies, municipalities, municipal corporations and panchayats.
- By effective implementation of the rules, the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme can be conducted by the local bodies which will help in reducing stray dog population, addressing the animal welfare issues.
- The municipal corporations need to implement the ABC and Anti Rabies Program jointly.
- The rules also provide guidelines on how to deal with the human and stray dog conflicts without relocating dogs in an area.
Government approved 8 projects worth around Rs 638 crores for Clean Ganga Mission
- The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has approved eight projects worth around 638 crore rupees.
- The projects were approved at the Executive Committee meeting of NMCG chaired by its Director General G Asok Kumar.
- Of them, four projects amounting to around ₹407 crore rupees were approved for pollution abatement in the Shamli district with an aim to clean River Hindon, which is a tributary of River Yamuna.
- These projects are part of the comprehensive Hindon Rejuvenation Plan as this river is identified as Priority-I polluted river stretch.
- As part of preparations for the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh in 2025, one project for development of seven ghats was approved.
- The ghats include Dashashmedh Ghat, Quila Ghat, Gyan Ganga Ashram Ghat and Saraswati Ghat.
- These ghats will have amenities such as area for bathing, universal access ramp and drinking water points.
- For Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, one sewerage management project each was approved.
- In Bihar, a project to construct three Sewage Treatment Plants among other works was approved at a cost of nearly 77 crore rupees.
- These projects will prevent the flow of polluted water into River Kiul which is a tributary of Ganga.
- In Madhya Pradesh, a project to construct 22 Million Litres per Day Sewage Treatment Plant and other works, was approved at a cost of about 93 crore rupees.
- It will prevent the flow of polluted water into River Kshipra, sub-tributary of Yamuna.
- Another project for ghat development was approved for Haridwar in Uttarakhand where Akhand Param Dham ghat will be constructed at a cost of over two crore rupees.

- Ministry of Information and Broadcasting organized the First National Workshop and Consultation on Draft AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comics – Extended Reality) Policies at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi.

India contributed USD 500,000 to UN entity for women empowerment
- India had contributed USD 500,000 to the UN Women – United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
- Ruchira Kamboj, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, handed over the cheque towards the Government of India’s contribution to the core voluntary budget of UN Women.

India and Russia crossed bilateral trade target of 30 billion dollars before target 2025
- India-Russia Business Dialogue 2023 held in New Delhi.
- The External Affairs Minister said that India and Russia have crossed the bilateral trade target of 30 billion dollars before the target year of 2025.
- He also said the International North-South Transport Corridor as well as the Eastern Maritime Corridor, which is the Chennai-Vladivostok Corridor, are being given due consideration.

India opened its 16th Visa application centre in Kushtia
- The High Commission of India opened its 16th Visa application centre in Kushtia town of Southwestern Bangladesh.

Andhra Pradesh government renamed Bhavanapadu port as Mulapeta port
- Andhra Pradesh government had renamed Bhavanapadu Port in Srikakulam District as Mulapeta Port on a request from the farmers.
- The Department of Infrastructure & Investment (Ports) issued a memo naming the Bhavanapadu Port as Mulapeta Port, in Srikakulam District.

Kerala adopted water budget to tackle summer water shortage
- Kerala became the first state to adopt a water budget in a bid to come up with a solution to water scarcity in certain regions there.
- The first phase of the project would cover 94 gram panchayats and 15 block panchayats.
- The Public Water Budget was released by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday, along with the launch of the third phase of the Ini Njan Ozhukatte (Let me flow now) project, for the rehabilitation of irrigation networks in the Western Ghats.
- The idea of a water budget was first mooted by the state in 2019.
- The budget was prepared by the Centre for Water Resource Development Management and the state water department.

PM MITRA Parks
- PM MITRA Parks launched in Lucknow and Hardoi districts of Uttar Pradesh.
- These parks, spread over 1000 acres, will give an impetus to the local economy as well as generate employment opportunities.
- PM Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) scheme is Inspired by the 5F vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister – Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign.
- PM MITRA Scheme was introduced by Textile Ministry in the Union Budget for 2021-22.

PM Gati Shakti initiative
- The Government says projects worth five lakh 14 thousand crore rupees have been evaluated under the PM Gati Shakti initiative in the last one and a half years.
- The initiative was launched in October 2021 for integrated and holistic planning across concerned Ministries and Departments in the country.
- The initiative aims at improving multi-modal connectivity, and logistics efficiency, and addressing critical infrastructure gaps, for seamless movement of people and goods.
- Around 76 key infrastructure projects were evaluated during this period.
- Two hundred projects have been evaluated and sanctioned so far under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
PTP-NER scheme
- Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda launched Marketing and Logistics Development for Promotion of Tribal Products from North-Eastern Region (PTP-NER) scheme in Manipur.
- The scheme has been introduced for the benefit of Scheduled Tribes of the North-Eastern Region.
- It has the vision to strengthen livelihood opportunities for tribal artisans through increased efficiency in procurement, logistics and marketing of tribal products from North Eastern States.
- The scheme will apply to the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim.
- As part of the scheme, it is planned to initiate empanelment of tribal artisans from North Eastern Region by organizing 68 Tribal Artisan Melas in various districts of the region.

RBI accepted Rs 5,500-crore bids at switch and conversion auction of govt bonds
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) accepted bids worth Rs 5,500 crores at an auction for conversion and switching of five government of India (GoI) bonds against the notified amount of Rs 11,000 crores.
- As for floating rate bond (FRB) maturing in 2024, for conversion into paper to be redeemed in 2032, it accepted Rs 2,000-crores bids, as against the notified amount of Rs 4,000 crores.

Karnataka Bank launched home loan campaign
- Karnataka Bank had launched a special home loan campaign ‘KBL Centenary Mahotsav’ from April 17 to July 17.
- Customers can avail home loan with discount in upfront fee, attractive rate of interest starting from 8.75 per cent, and nil processing charges for home loan under the ‘KBL Centenary Mahotsav’ campaign.

AU Small Finance Bank enabled bill payment via video banking
- AU Small Finance Bank (AU SFB) had integrated with the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) to launch bill payment services through video banking.
- The primary aim of this initiative is to promote digital accessibility and enhance economic capability, leading to greater financial inclusions.
- his platform enables customers to pay bills without the need to visit a branch, which is particularly beneficial for those with mobility issues or residing in remote areas and senior citizens.
- With the aid of expert banking representatives, customers can make payments to 20K+ billers across 20+ categories, from their AU account.

Indian Railways earned record revenue of Rs 2.40 lakh crore in 2022-23
- The Indian Railways has registered record revenue of Rs 2.40 lakh crore for the financial year 2022-23, which is nearly Rs 49,000 crore more than the previous year, reflecting a 25 per cent growth.
- Indian Railways’ passenger revenue has also registered an all-time high growth of 61 per cent to reach at Rs 63,300 Crores.

TNAU signed MoU to enhance production potential of commercial grape varieties
- The Department of Fruit Science, Horticultural College and Research Institute, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, New Delhi, for enhancing the production potential of commercial grape varieties suitable for export.

- Utsa Patnaik, a renowned economist of national and international repute, has been selected for the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award 2023.

India acquires weapons worth $300 million from US for its Navy
- India is acquiring armaments worth over $300 million from the US to arm its naval multi role helicopters that will enhance their capability to counter enemy warships and submarines.
- The weapons are for the MH 60 ‘Romeo’ choppers, the most advanced multi role helicopters currently in service with the Indian Navy.
- The fleet of 24 choppers will get additional Hellfire missiles and Mk 54 lightweight torpedoes.
