Government approves Rs 2539.61 crore for upgradation of Akashvani and Doordarshan
- The Government has approved the continuation of the Central Sector Scheme “Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND)” with an outlay of 2539.61 crore rupees for the period 2021-26 for upgradation of broadcasting infrastructure and network development of Prasar Bharati (Akashvani and Doordarshan).
- Outlay under the BIND Scheme has been projected for different activities which are undertaken based on the availability of funds and inter-se priority.
- Under the BIND Scheme, the upgradation of DDK (Doordarshan) Ranchi and Akashvani stations at Chaibasa, Daltonganj, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Giridih, Pakur, Simdega, and Kodarma has been envisaged in the State of Jharkhand.
First National Sports University of country
- First National Sports University of country in the North-eastern state of Manipur at a total sanctioned cost of Rs.643.34 crore.
- 1000 Khelo India centres will be dedicated to the country this year itself, out of which 227 Khelo India Centres are being established in the North-east.
- Ministry has approved 75 sports infrastructure projects at a combined sanctioned cost of Rs.520.60 crore.
- 3 National Centres of Excellence, 12 SAI Training Centres and 22 Khelo India accredited Sports Academies are already functional in the North-Eastern States.

- Union Minister of Steel and Civil Aviation Sh. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia unveiled the new logo of NMDC at New Delhi.
- NMDC’s new logo represents how India’s largest producer of iron ore, is all set for the mining at a global scale in a sustainable and green environment.
- This logo communicates the responsibilities of NMDC towards mining in harmony with nature and people, towards ensuring mineral security & building mineral accountability, and towards infusing self-reliance in our sector.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal launches Port Health Organisation (PHO) under Sagar Setu to enable faster & simpler ecosystem to promote Ease of Doing Business
- The defence cooperation agreement signed between India and Romania will enhance collaboration through the exchange o
- The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal launched Port Health Organisation (PHO) module under Sagar Setu – National Logistics Portal (Marine) – in an attempt to enable faster and simpler ecosystem to promote Ease of Doing Business (EODB).
- PHO will conduct disease surveillance, health inspection and quarantine measures to safeguard citizens and port workers.
- This Port Health Organization module has been envisaged as a part of ‘Ease of Doing busine’ by covering features like request for PHO clearance certificates, approval by PHO, online certification generation, tracking of request status etc.
- The PHO module will help the Shipping Agents, PHO’s, Port Authorities, Customs etc allowing easier access to functionalities of PHO clearance through online process.
- This will help in collaborating with different departments & agencies for accordance of approval etc.
- It will also ensure data mobility such that approvals and monitoring shall be paperless transparency.
- With a focus on public health, the Port Health Organization will conduct disease surveillance, health inspections, and quarantine measures to safeguard citizens and port workers.
- For Custodians like Ports Authorities and Customs, this module will help in providing Seamless Communication.
- PHO module of Sagar Setu (NLP-M) will boost maritime trade by enhancing ease of doing business and implementing digitisation process in Maritime process.
- Sagar Setu (National Logistic Portal – Marine) would help the Shipping Agents to submit the request for Free Pratique and Health Declaration Certificates to PHOs at Port through online for the vessel arriving and leaving the Ports.
- Approvals and issuance of certificates by PHOs can also be made through the PHO module and notifications to Port Officials.
- Earlier, the ‘SAGAR-SETU’, the mobile app version of NLP-Marine, was launched in April, 2023.
- This app gives real-time information on vessel-related details, gate information, container freight stations, and transactions.
- The app also facilitates digital payments for charges associated with import and export clearance processes, such as shipping line charges, transportation fees, and container freight station charges.

Schemes
Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR)-State Scheme
- The Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) Scheme came into existence in 1998 under then Planning Commission.
- Subsequently, it was transferred to DoNER in 2001.
- Since inception of the Scheme, various projects were sanctioned across sectors for development of North Eastern Region as per Scheme guidelines framed for the purpose and revised from time to time.
- The objective of NLCPR Scheme is to fill up the gap in infrastructure sector of the North Eastern Region through sanctioning the projects prioritized by the State Governments.
- Ministry gets Annual Budgetary Allocation from Ministry of Finance for funding the projects under NLCPR Scheme. Funds under the scheme are shared between the Central and State Governments on 90:10 basis.
- The approved funds under the scheme are released in three installments in the ratio of 40:40:20 for the projects sanctioned prior to the revised guidelines 2016 based on the commensurate physical and financial progress of the projects.
- A total of 1635 projects worth Rs. 16234.88 crore were sanctioned under Non Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR)-State Scheme; of which, 1307 projects worth Rs. 11,128.00 crore have already been completed.
- As on 31.07.2023, a total of 328 projects worth Rs. 5105.79 crore are under various stages of implementation against which the central share of total committed liability is Rs. 925.39 crore.

Banking and Finance
NABARD sanctions Rs 1,974 crore to Rajasthan
- NABARD has sanctioned Rs 1,974.07 crore to the Rajasthan government under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) for 2023-24.
- NABARD Rajasthan Chief General Manager Dr Rajiv Siwach said Rs 930.44 crore has been sanctioned for three rural drinking water supply projects in Ajmer, Jalore, and Kota districts.
- Further, Rs 926.48 crore was sanctioned for the construction of 676 rural roads in the desert and tribal areas of the state.
- Earlier, Rs 117.15 crore had been sanctioned for the construction of 104 veterinary hospitals and 431 sub-centres in all districts of the state.
- Drinking water supply projects are expected to provide clean and potable water to 2.87 lakh households in 2,500 villages, whereas rural road projects will improve connectivity in 1,229 villages across 12 districts.
- NABARD is also supporting the state government in bringing 4.28 lakh hectares under micro-irrigation with a support of Rs 740 crore from the Micro Irrigation Fund.

Indian economy may grow by average 6.7% till FY31, says S&P Global
- The National Health Mission of Assam signed Memorandum of Ass
- Expressing confidence in the medium-term growth potential of the Indian economy, S&P Global projected an average annual growth of 6.7 per cent from the fiscal year 2023-24 (FY24) to FY31, with capital accumulation as the main driver of this growth.
- In a report titled ‘Look Forward: India’s Moment’, S&P predicted that India’s gross domestic product (GDP) would nearly double to $6.7 trillion by FY31 from $3.4 trillion in FY23.
- This increase would correspond to a per capita GDP of around $4,500.

IIM Ahmedabad’s CIIE.CO partner with SIDBI to launch pre-seed deep tech accelerator fund
- IIM Ahmedabad’s CIIE.CO and SIDBI have partnered to establish a pre-seed fund, especially for deep-tech start-ups.
- The MoU signed between the two organisations laid the foundation for the fund with a total corpus of ₹40 crore, equally contributed by both SIDBI and CIIE.CO.
- Over the past twenty years, CIIE.CO has been an investor in early-stage ventures in India, investing in more than 350 start-ups, accelerating more than 1,500, and mentoring many more.

India to participate in Jeddah conference on Ukaine’s peace plan
- India to participate in a two-day conference on Ukraine’s peace plan that will take place in the coastal city of Jeddah.
- The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that New Delhi would participate in the meeting in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
- Several European nations, the US, China, and Brazil, including Ukraine are also among the countries invited to the conference.
- The conference is being hosted in an attempt by Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman to act as a mediator to resolve the dispute and end the conflict which started in February last year.

NHAI launches app for complaint redressal and FASTAG recharge
- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched ‘Rajmargyatra,’ a citizen-centric unified mobile application.
- This app offers travelers with information on Indian National Highways while also ushering a complaint redressal system.
- Users can get real-time weather conditions, timely broadcast notifications, and access to details about nearby toll plazas, petrol pumps, hospitals, hotels, and other essential services that ensure a seamless and Journey on National Highways.
- It also comes equipped with an inbuilt complaint redressal and escalation mechanism.
- Users can report highway-related issues, attaching geo-tagged videos or photos for better clarity.
- The registered complaints will be handled in a time-bound manner.
- The Rajmargyatra app also integrates its services with various bank portals, allowing users to recharge their FASTags, avail monthly passes, and access other FASTag-related banking services.

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba gets another one-year extension
- Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba given one-year extension, beyond August 30, 2023, in service by the government.
- This is his third extension on the post.
- Gauba, a former Union home secretary, was in 2019 appointed to the country’s top bureaucratic post for two years.
- He was given one-year extension in 2021 and then in August last year.

Teen Gukesh D overtakes idol Viswanathan Anand to become India's highest FIDE rankings player
- Teen chess champion Gukesh D ended Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand’s 37-year reign as India’s highest-ranking chess player in the live world (FIDE) rankings.
- The 17-year-old defeated Mistradin Iskandarov in the second round of the FIDE World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan, and scored a live rating of 2755.9, while Anand’s rating was at 2754.0.
- With this, Gukesh replaced his idol to move up to World No. 9 in the classic open category, while the five-time World Champion slipped to the 10th spot.
- Anand, who first made it to the World’s top 10 in July 1991, has remained India’s top-ranked player in all published lists since January 1987.
- He only dropped to second place in the live world rankings twice since 1986.
