39th CISO Deep Dive Training Programme
- Cyber Surakshit Bharat initiative of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was conceptualised with the mission to spread awareness about cyber-crime and build capacities of Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) and frontline IT officials, across all government departments, for ensuring adequate safety measures to combat the growing menace – Organisations need to defend their digital infrastructures and become future-ready in tackling cyber-attacks.
- National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under its Capacity Building scheme, organised the 39th CISO Deep-Dive training programme from August 7th-11th 2023 with 25 participants from Central Line Ministries at Indian Institute of Public Administration in New Delhi.
- The programme was inaugurated by S.N Tripathi, Director General IIPA, Smt. Savita Utreja, Scientist G (Senior Director) & Group Coordinator, Cyber Security, MeitY, Sh. Rajnish Kumar, Director-Capacity Building & Finance, NeGD, MeitY and Sh. Vinod Kumar Chouhan, Scientist E, Cyber Security, MeitY and Prof. Charru Malhotra, Course Coordinator, IIPA.
- The purpose of the program is to spread awareness, build capacity as well as enable Government departments on steps that need to be taken to create a cyber resilient eco system.
- This programme aims to sensitise and orient participants on cyber safety and security in taking Digital India programme forward for integrated delivery of various Govt. services to citizens, present a holistic information and knowledge and understanding about cyber security, spreading awareness, build capacities as well as enable government departments to look after their cyber hygiene, safety and security.
- Launched in 2018, the CISO training is the first-of-its-kind of partnership between the Government and industry consortium under Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
- Since June 2018 until August 2023, NeGD has efficaciously conducted 39 batches of CISO deep-dive training programmes for over 1,489 CISOs and frontline IT officials.

7th BRICS Industry Ministers’ meeting
- Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Textiles, Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal participated in the “7th BRICS Industry Ministers’ meeting” hosted virtually with South Africa as the Chair.
- Shri Goyal announced that India will be launching the BRICS Startup Forum in 2023 with the goal of facilitating collaboration and sharing best practices among startups, investors, incubators, and aspiring entrepreneurs.
- Shri Piyush Goyal, while highlighting the transformation that has taken place in India, also commented on the expanding Startup India initiative that has led to the creation of nearly 100,000 startups in the country.
- The Minister focused on “Transforming Production Systems” and the support India can offer to other BRICS members and the wider international community.
- Shri Piyush Goyal reiterated India’s commitment to “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (‘The World Is One Family’) which underscores India’s commitment to being a responsible global citizen and working towards a more inclusive, tolerant and interconnected world.
- The Industry Ministers of other BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa) also attended the meeting and the Joint Declaration was adopted.

India, Nepal & Bangladesh working on a first-of-its-kind tripartite electricity trade deal in South Asia
- In a first, India, Nepal and Bangladesh are working on a tripartite power trade deal under which Nepal will supply up to 500 megawatts (MW) of hydropower to Bangladesh using India’s transmission line, a move that can further boost cross-border electricity trading in South Asia.
- Besides, there are also plans to lay a dedicated transmission line connecting Nepal and Bangladesh via India, which is at official level talks at present.
- Two routes have been identified for the same.
- Government officials said that bilateral trade in power is already happening in South Asia, but such a tripartite deal will open up more avenues for electricity trade in the region, particularly for green energy, going ahead.
- Besides, it will also open ways to sell power to neighbouring countries such as Sri Lanka and Myanmar.
- As per the proposed three-way deal, Nepal will supply hydropower to Bangladesh leveraging India’s high-voltage transmission line.
- At first, 50 MW will be provided to Bangladesh by Nepal using India’s Baharampur-Bheramara cross-border transmission line.
- The electricity will be supplied from Nepal’s 900 MW Upper Karnali hydropower project.
- In return, India wants Bangladesh to provide it access to lay transmission lines for connecting its north eastern States.

Assam CM unveils projects worth Rs 85 crore in Golaghat
- Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled different development projects worth Rs 85 crore in Golaghat district of the state.
- Sarma inaugurated the first phase of the integrated sports complex, developed at an expenditure of Rs 10 crore in Bokakhat.
- He also laid the foundation stones for an inspection bungalow worth Rs 10 crore, a hospital for domestic animals worth Rs 9 crore and an integrated handloom park involving an outlay of Rs 56 crore.

Haryana govt planning to build dam at cost of 6,134 crore rupees
- The Haryana government is planning to build a dam at a cost of 6,134 crore rupees.
- It will have a 14-km-long reservoir and will be built 4.5 km upstream from the Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar district.
- Once the project is completed, the state will have greater availability of irrigation water, groundwater recharge, and aquaculture, apart from generation of 250 MW of electricity.
- Its reservoir will have a capacity of 82 lakh cusecs.

Banking and Finance
Banks write off Rs 14.56 lakh crore NPAs in last nine financial years
- Banks have written off bad loans worth Rs 14.56 lakh crore in the last nine financial years starting 2014-15.
- Out of the total Rs 14,56,226 crore, written off loans of large industries and services stood at Rs 7,40,968 crore.
- Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) have recovered an aggregate amount of Rs 2,04,668 crore in written-off loans, including corporate loans, since April, 2014 and up to March, 2023.
- Loans written-off during the financial year, net of recovery in written-off loans during the financial year (net write-off) in public sector banks (PSBs) was Rs 18 lakh crore in the financial year (FY) 2017-18, which has declined to 0.91 lakh crore in FY 2021-22 and to Rs 0.84 lakh crore (RBI provisional data) in FY 2022-23.
- Net write-off loans by private sector banks stood at Rs 73,803 crore (RBI provisional data) in FY 2022-23.
Star Health and Allied Insurance enters into bancassurance tie-up with Standard Chartered Bank
- Star Health and Allied Insurance announced its collaboration with Standard Chartered Bank to enhance its distribution network.
- After this collaboration, Star Health will make its health insurance products readily accessible to customers via Standard Chartered Bank’s extensive distribution network.
- The insurance company hopes that with 100 branches spread across 42 cities, the bank will serve as a convenient one-stop destination for its customers seeking comprehensive health insurance coverage.
- The insurance company hopes that this partnership will allow quality health insurance be accessible to everyone in every part of the country.
General insurers' premium grew by 18.3% in July to Rs 23,259 crore
- General insurance companies in India witnessed an 3 per cent increase in premiums in July, amounting to Rs 23,259 crore.
- In the first four months of the current financial year, these firms saw a growth of 17 per cent, collecting premiums totalling Rs 80,177 crore.
- Stand-alone health insurers reported a growth of 24 per cent to Rs 2,665 crore in July, and a 8 per cent rise to Rs 9,322 crore in the first four months.
- Non-life insurers (excluding specialised insurers) reported a premium growth of 9 per cent to Rs 25,924 crore in July.
- These insurers experienced a growth of 9 per cent in the first four months.
- New India Assurance, the largest general insurer holding a 15 per cent market share, saw its premium income grow by 9 per cent to Rs 3,255 crore in July.
- ICICI Lombard, the leading private general insurance company with a 66 per cent market share, experienced a 21.91 per cent growth, with its July premium amounting to Rs 2,389 crore.

Amazon India signs pact with Gujarat Govt, EDII to boost state's exports
- Amazon India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) and the Cottage and Rural Industries Department, Government of Gujarat, to help drive e-commerce exports from the state.
- Amazon will focus on bringing weavers, artisans and other micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Gujarat on Amazon Global Selling, the e-commerce exports programme.
- The Cottage and Rural Industries Department will identify about 1,000 artisans in handloom and handicrafts through its Hastkala Setu Yojana programme.
- Amazon and EDII will conduct hybrid (in-person and online) training sessions and workshops on B2C e-commerce exports, educating the artisans on registering and listing their products to sell on more than 18 Amazon Global Marketplaces and tools for making exports easier.

Airtel launches India's first 5G wireless Wi-Fi 'Airtel Xstream AirFiber'
- Bharti Airtel announced the launch of Airtel Xstream AirFiber, India’s first 5G wireless Wi-Fi service designed to provide internet to areas without fibre-based internet connections.
- This new offering will provide fixed wireless access (FWA) to homes lacking fixed line internet.
- According to Airtel’s data, only 34 million homes in India have optical fibre connections, highlighting a large number of customers struggling for fibre access.
- Xstream AirFiber, a plug-and-play device with in-built Wi-Fi 6 technology, aims to address this gap by offering wide indoor coverage and the capacity to simultaneously connect up to 64 devices.

Government to launch e-CARe portal for seamless transfer of bodies of Indians abroad
- The Central government will launch e-CARe (e-clearance for after life remains) portal to facilitate fast transfer of mortal remains of Indian nationals who die abroad, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya.
The government will depute a nodal officers from Airport Health Organization who will be monitoring the portal - They will scrutinize and give fast track approvals.
- The applicant will have to submit scanned copies of four documents—death certificate, embalming certificate, NOC from Indian Embassy or consulate and cancelled passport of the deceased.

Tata Power to invest Rs 13,000 crore in Maharashtra for 2 pumped hydro storage projects
- Tata Power announced a Rs 13,000 crore investment for setting up two pumped hydro storage projects (PSPs) in Maharashtra.
- Without sharing a timeline for the investment, the company said the two projects will have a combined capacity of 2,800 MW.
- The two PSPs will be set up at Shirawta, Pune (1,800 MW) and Bhivpuri, Raigad (1,000 MW) and generate employment for 6,000 people.

- Dhaksha Unmanned Systems, an arm of Coromandel International, has bagged two orders for 600 drones with an aggregate value of ₹165 crore.
- The drone company bagged an order for 200 medium-altitude logistics drones and accessories to the Indian Army.
- It also won a contract for 400 drones from the agri inputs cooperative IFFCO for the supply of input-spraying drones.
