National News
77th Independence Day
- India got independence from the United Kingdom on 15 August 1947.
- On Independence Day National Flag will be hoisted by Prime Minister in Red Fort New Delhi.
- This year observes 77th Independence Day, marking 76 years of freedom.
- The main theme for this year is “Nation First, Always First,” as part of the larger “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” Celebration.
- Around 1800 special guest from across the country were chief guest gathered in Red Fort including Sarpanchs of more than 660 vibrant villages, people from Farmer Producer Organisations, Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and Shram Yogis of the Central Vista Project, including the New Parliament Building.
- Seventy-five couples from each State and Union Territory have also been invited who will come in their traditional attire.
- 1100 NCC cadets from across the country will take part.
- G-20 logo will be part of the floral decorations at the Red Fort.
- HAR GHAR TIRANGA – Tricolor in every house (People will hoist National Flag in their houses).
- President Droupadi Murmu has approved 76 Gallantry awards to Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces personnel.
- These include four Kirti Chakras (posthumous), 11 Shaurya Chakras, including five posthumous, two Bar to Sena Medals (gallantry), 52 Sena Medals (gallantry), three Nao Sena Medals (gallantry) and four Vayu Sena Medals (gallantry).
- The Government is working with Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) with the aim of creating 2 crores ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in villages.
- Indian Naval Ship Kulish, a guided missile Corvette which is on a four-day visit to Singapore to take part in a multilateral exercise joined the celebration of the 77th Independence Day.

Graphene-Aurora Program
- ‘Graphene-Aurora program’ was launched by Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma at Maker Village Kochi, Kerala.
- The program will be implemented by Digital University Kerala with joint funding from Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) and Government of Kerala and Industry partners, with the total budget outlay of Rs 94.85 Crore, wherein, Carborundum Pvt Limited joined as one of the main industry partners.
- Along with the startup products developed, the technologies and products also developed at research and development centers like India Innovation Centre Graphene (IICG), setup at Makers village, Kochi shall be considered for commercialization.

Telangana government announced farm loan waiver
- Telangana government has announced a farm loan waiver up to ₹99,999, amounting to ₹7753.43 crore rupees, of over 16,66,000 farmers will be cleared.
- It will be cleared within the next 45 days.
- The Government has released over 5,800 crore rupees.

Schemes
Vishwakarma Yojana
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Vishwakarma Yojana with an allocation of Rs 13,000-15,000 crore for people belonging to Other Backward Castes (OBC).
- The scheme will be launched on September 17 (Vishwakarma Jayanti).
- The main objective of the scheme is to drive economic growth and social progress among individuals possessing traditional skills.
- The scheme seeks to help workers from the OBC community such as barbers, tanners, and blacksmiths.
- Vishwakarma means “all maker”, Shri Vishwakarma has been the world’s first engineer.
Abua Awas Yojna
- Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the launch of ‘Abua Awas Yojna’ at a cost of Rs 15,000 crore to build homes for the needy in the next two years.
- Each house will have three rooms.
- Mukhyamantri Sarathi Yojana has been started in 80 blocks of the state for skill development of the youth.
- Provisions of Mukhyamantri Rojgar Srijan Yojana has also been relaxed.
- The universal pension scheme (Jharkhand Universal Pension Scheme 2023) has been started in the state under which pension is being provided across many verticals.
- Thirty-five lakh beneficiaries are being provided pension under various heads and till July 2023 Rs 1,400 crore has been spent on giving pension

Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority integrates National Pension System statement with consolidated account statement
- Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) in coordination with capital market regulator SEBI has enabled the National Pension System (NPS) subscribers to view their pension fund corpus along with their demat securities and MF holdings under a single consolidated account statement (CAS).
- This functionality that will benefit over 1.35 crore NPS subscribers, is expected to provide a simplified and secured way to stay informed on NPS investments through CAS.
- Currently, CAS, which is provided by National Securities Depository Ltd and Central Depository Services Ltd, offers a consolidated view of personal investments in the securities market with updated mark-to-market values.

SBI predicted massive jump in India's per capita income by FY47
- A research report by State Bank of India.
- The per capita income of Indians is expected to increase from Rs 2 lakh in FY23 to Rs 14.9 lakh in FY47 (from $2,500 in FY23 to $12,400 in FY47).
- It further added that the weighted mean income of Rs 4.4 lakh in Assessment Year 2014 (AY), has now increased to Rs 13 lakh.
- As of now, 13.6 per cent of taxpayers have left the lower income strata and migrated upwards, as compared to AY12.
- In AY23, 68.5 million people filed ITR with 64 per cent population still in the income group of up to Rs 5 lakh.
- As much as 8.1 per cent have increased in the income group of Rs 5 lakh, while 3.8 per cent have increased in the group of Rs 10-20 lakh.
- The report added that 1.5 per cent has increased in the income group of Rs 20-50 lakh, while 0.2 per cent has increased in the Rs 50 lakh-1 crore income group.
- SBI predicted 25 per cent of ITR filers to leave the lowest income strata by FY47, with around 17.5 per cent filers moving to the Rs 5-10 lakh group, 5 per cent to Rs 10-20 lakh group, and 3 per cent to Rs 20-50 lakh group.
- It added that by FY47, 0.5 per cent of filers are expected to shift to income group of Rs 50 lakh – Rs 1 crore, and 0.075 per cent to income group of above Rs 1 crore.
- The Assessment Year is the 12 month-period that comes right after the financial year.
- It is the period from April 1 to March 31, during which revenue produced during the fiscal year is taxed.
- For example, the Assessment Year for any revenue produced between April 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023, would be 2023-24.

Retail inflation soars to 15-months high
- The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation rate jumped to 7.44 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) in July from 4.87 per cent in June.
- Retail inflation also breached the Reserve Bank of India’s upper tolerance level of 6 per cent for the first time in five months.

Maya OS
- Ministry of Defence has announced that it will replace Microsoft Windows with an indigenously developed operating system called Maya OS on all its computers by the end of this year.
- The move is aimed at improving the security of the ministry’s computer systems against the malware and ransomware attacks that are on rise from past few years.
- Maya OS is based on Ubuntu, a popular Linux distribution.
- It has been developed by a team of experts from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), and the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
- The development of Maya OS began in 2021 amidst surging cases of cyber-attacks on government and defence systems.
- The OS was developed in just six months.

Adani Green Energy targeted 45 GW of renewable energy by 2030
- Adani Green is targeting to set up 45 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
- The target is to take their current capacity to 45,000 MW or 45 GW by 2030.
- Adani Green Energy Ltd has 8,316 megawatts (8.3 GW) of operational renewable energy capacity and another 12,118 MW either nearing construction or under execution.
- The target is to take this 20,434 MW (operational plus under execution projects) to 45,000 MW or 45 GW by 2030, they said, adding AGEL is looking to build roughly 3 GW of capacity to generate electricity from solar and wind energy every year.

19-member panel was formed by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) for textbooks revision
- Ministry of Education formed a high level 19-member committee named The National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC).
- The 19-member committee of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) that will formulate new textbooks for Grade 3 to 12.
- M.C. Pant, Chancellor of National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), is the Chairperson of NSTC, while Prof. Manjul Bhargava of Princeton University is the co-Chairperson.
- Other noted members include Shekhar Mande, Former DG, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research; U. Vimal Kumar, Director, Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore; Chamu Krishna Shastri, Chairperson, Bhartiya Bhasha Samiti; Sudha Murthy, Infosys Foundation Chairperson; Bibek Debroy, Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM) Chairman; and Sanjeev Sanyal, Member, EAC-PM.
- The NSTC will be assisted by “Curricular Area Groups (CAGs)” to develop textbooks and other teaching learning materials for each of the subjects included in the syllabus.

Eminent scientist MRS Rao passes away
- Manchanahalli Rangaswamy Satyanarayana Rao, popularly known as MRS Rao, an eminent Indian scientist and Padma Shri awardee passed away 75.
- He was the first scientist to initiate Chromatin Biology research in India.
- He received Padma Sri award in 2010 for his contributions to the field of science and engineering.
- He also received Karnataka state government with the Sir MV Visvesvaraya Award.
- He was the President of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, from 2003-13.
Shri Kandlakunta Alaha Singaracharyulu passed away
- Eminent Telugu, Sanskrit writer, scholar and academician Kandlakunta Alaha Singaracharyulu passed away at 93.

Partition Horrors Remembrance Day
- Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is an annual national memorial day observed on 14 August in India, commemorating the victims and sufferings of people during the 1947 partition of India.
- The partition had left 10 to 20 million people displaced and left 2 hundred thousand to 2 million dead.
- The day was first observed by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in 2021.
