Asian Development Bank will set up climate change and health hub in Delhi
- India is now all set to open a climate change and health hub in New Delhi in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
- The first WHO Centre for Global Traditional Medicine, will be set up in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
- The outpost in Jamnagar will aim to provide leadership on global health matters pertaining to traditional medicine; ensure the quality, safety, efficacy, accessibility, and rational use of traditional medicine; develop norms, standards, and guidelines in relevant technical areas; and develop tools and methodologies for data collection and analytics.
- The new hub for climate change and health will facilitate knowledge sharing, promote partnerships and innovations, and also help countries beyond the G-20, especially developing countries.

Smart India hackathon 2023
- The Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, in conjunction with the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), has announced the launch of the sixth edition of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2023.
- KAVACH Hackathon, a cybersecurity-focused event organized in partnership with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
- Smart India Hackathon is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell and the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

- India has handed over the B20 presidency to Brazil to host G20 in 2024.
- India’s B20 Presidency under the its G20 Presidency worked under the theme of Vasaudeva Katumbakam (One Earth, One Family, One Future).

3rd India-EU High Level Dialogue on Trade and Investment
- The 3rd High Level Dialogue (HLD) was co-chaired by the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles Shri Piyush Goyal and the European Commission Executive Vice-President for an Economy that Works for People& Trade Commissioner Mr. Valdis Dombrovskis.
- The HLD is an outcome of the decision taken at the 15th India-EU Leader’s Summit held in July 2020, with an objective for a Ministerial level guidance towards the bilateral trade and investment relations.
- During the discussion, in the HLD, the Ministers took stock of ongoing three negotiations between India and EU i.e. India-EU Free Trade Agreement; a standalone Investment Protection Agreement; and a Geographical Indications Agreement.
Indian High Commissioner laid foundation stone of Knowledge Park at Chattogram, Bangladesh
- Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pranay Verma and Bangladesh Minister of State for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak jointly laid the foundation stone of the Knowledge Park at Chattogram.
- The IT park is being built with Government of India’s financing support.
- The Government of India is providing a concessional Line of Credit worth nearly US$ 250 million to establish 12 such IT parks in 12 different districts of Bangladesh.
- Each Park is expected to generate direct employment for 3,000 people and train over 1,000 people every year.

Tirupathur District Achieved Elite World Records
- The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Tirupathur district, Tamil Nadu, has set a new world record by constructing 1546 farm ponds in 208 village panchayat in just 30 days.
- The project was implemented with an approximate budget of Rs. 30.92 Crores, with each farm pond costing around Rs. 2 lakhs.
- The initiative was undertaken as a part of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), with the primary goal of enhancing groundwater potential, harvesting rain water during monsoon and providing sufficient water for agricultural purposes, especially during the dry summer months.
- This innovative effort has garnered recognition from prestigious record-keeping organizations, including Elite World Records, Asian Records Academy, India Records Academy, and Tamilan Book of Records.

Schemes
Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana
- Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15/08/2014 and launched on 28/08/2014.
- The slogan of the scheme is “Mera Khaata, Bhagya Vidhata” (meaning “My account, fortune maker”).
- Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana is a National Mission on Financial Inclusion which has an integrated approach to bring about comprehensive financial inclusion and provide banking services to all households in the country.
- The scheme ensures access to a range of financial services like availability of basic savings bank account, access to need based credit, remittances facility, insurance and pension.
- More than 50 crore beneficiaries banked under PMJDY since inception.
- Total deposit balances under PMJDY Accounts stand at Rs. 2,03,505 crores.
- PMJDY accounts grow 3.4 -fold from 14.72 crores in March 2015 to 50.09 crores as on 16-08-2023.
- Around 56% Jan-Dhan account holders are women and around 67% Jan Dhan accounts in rural and semi-urban areas.
- 33.98 crore RuPay cards issued to PMJDY accountholders.
MODI scheme
- Assam government will roll out MODI scheme which stands for ‘Most Outstanding District Initiative’ with Rs 100 crore to reward the cleanest district.
- State cabinet has cleared this policy where districts will be assessed on 108 parameters before being given the cleanest tag.
- Post delimitation of assembly and parliamentary seats in Assam, the state government has decided to create four new districts and 81 subdistricts.

RBI approved voluntary amalgamation of Akola Merchant Co-operative Bank with The Jalgaon Peoples Co-operative Bank
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had sanctioned the amalgamation of Akola Merchant Co-operative Bank with The Jalgaon Peoples Co-operative Bank.
- Both the banks are located in Maharashtra.
- The branches of Akola Merchant Co-operative Bank will function as branches of The Jalgaon Peoples Co-operative Bank with effect from August 28.

IIT Bombay partnered with HSBC to support innovation-led green hydrogen initiatives
- IIT Bombay has partnered with HSBC to pursue technological advancements towards making green hydrogen production more efficient, cost-effective, and scalable.
- The focus of the joint initiative will be on innovative projects that will help position green hydrogen as a strategic alternate fuel; help in building a robust, green hydrogen economy and achieve the government’s vision of an energy-independent nation.
- This partnership will help boost the government’s National Green Hydrogen Mission focused on providing policy support towards achieving global leadership in green hydrogen transition.

Revamped website of Income Tax Department launched
- The Income Tax Department has revamped its website with a user-friendly interface, value-added features, and new modules.
- The newly revamped website, www.incometaxindia.gov.in, was launched by Nitin Gupta, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
- The website serves as a comprehensive repository of tax and other related information.
- It provides access to Direct Tax laws, several other Allied Acts, Rules, Income Tax Circulars, and Notifications, all cross-referenced and hyperlinked.
- The site also offers a ‘Taxpayer Services Module’ featuring various tax tools to assist taxpayers in filing their income tax returns.

- Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa was re-elected for a second and final five-year term.
- He is 3rd President and was 1st Vice President of Zimbabwea.

National Awards for e-Governance
- To recognize and promote excellence in implementation of e-Governance initiatives, DAR&PG presents National Awards every year.

- Digital University Kerala has won the national award for e-governance for the AI-based Lucky Bill App it developed for the Kerala GST Department that ensures tax compliance apart from promoting transparency in financial transactions.
- The Panchayati Raj Ministry’s SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages Abadi and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) scheme won the National e-Governance Award 2023 (GOLD) for the application of emerging technologies for the provision of on the citizen.

World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary
- Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won India’s first-ever gold with a throw of 88.17 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
- In the men’s 4x400m relay, Indian team of Muhammed Anas Yahiya, Amoj Jacob, Muhammed Ajmal Variyathodi and Rajesh Ramesh finished fifth with an impressive time of 2:59.92 while the USA claimed gold, France won silver, and Great Britain won bronze.
- In the women’s 3000-metre in 9:15:31 steeplechase event, India’s Parul Choudhary has finished 11th, but, clocked her personal best, qualified for Paris Olympics 2024.

- The Indian contingent won a total of four medals, including one gold and three bronze medals at the 30th Asian Squash Junior Individual Championships 2023, held in China.
- Anahat, the 15-year-old prodigy, defeated Kwong Ena of Hong Kong 3-1 in the final to become second Indian and first female squash player to win the U-17 title.
- Shaurya Bawa secured a third-place finish in the Boys U19 category, as Pooja Arthi secured one in the Girls U19 section.
- Aryaveer Singh earned the bronze medal in the Boys U15 category.

BCCI onboarded IDFC First Bank as title sponsor for home internationals
- Private sector lender IDFC First Bank has secured the title rights for the home international series of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
- It has acquired the rights for Rs 4.2 crore per international game as compared to the previous value of Rs 3.8 crore.
- The base price for the bidding was set at Rs 2.4 crore.
- The private bank will enter into a contract with the BCCI for a three-year period starting next month, kicking in with a three-match ODIs series against Australia.
- The agreement will extend until August 2026 and cover a total of 56 international games.
- BCCI is likely to generate nearly Rs 235 crore from this title sponsorship.

Exercise BRIGHT STAR-23
- An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent participated in Exercise BRIGHT STAR-23 a biennial multilateral tri-service exercise scheduled to be held at Cairo (West) Air Base, Egypt.
- This is for the first time that IAF is participating in that exercise which will also see participation of contingents from the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Greece and Qatar.
- The Indian Air Force contingent will consist of five MiG-29, two IL-78, two C-130 and two C-17 aircraft.
- Personnel from the IAF’s Garud Special Forces, as well as those from the Numbers 28, 77, 78 and 81 Squadrons will be participating in the exercise.
- The IAF transport aircraft will also provide airlift to approximately 150 personnel from the Indian Army.

AUSINDEX maritime exercise
- 4-days 5th edition of biennial AUSINDEX maritime exercise between Indian Navy and Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was conducted at Sydney, Australia.
- INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata participated in the exercise along with HMAS Choules and HMAS Brisbane from RAN.
- Besides ships and their integral helicopters, the exercise also witnessed participation of fighter aircraft and maritime patrol aircraft.

IAF held study to identify transport fleet requirement
- The Indian Air Force, which is looking to procure Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA), is carrying out a comprehensive study to identify the current and future payload-carrying requirements of the force.
- It has already issued a Request For Information (RFI) to global manufacturers for aircraft with load-carrying capacity between 18 to 30 tonnes.
- The 2020 stand-off with China in Eastern Ladakh has changed the nature of airlift and support for the Army required in high-altitude areas.
- The RFI for a MTA was issued in December 2022 and the deadline to respond was extended till March 31, 2023.
- There are three responses to the RFI.
- These include Airbus A-400M, Lockheed Martin C-130, and Embraer C-390. Among them, the A-400M has a maximum carrying capacity of 37 tonnes, the C-130 close to 20 tonnes, and the C-390 up to 26 tonnes.

Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems bags Rs 287.51 crores order to supply missile systems
- Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems Pvt Ltd has bagged a Rs 287.51 crore order from the defence ministry for the supply of missile systems.
- The company is a joint venture between Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd (a wholly-owned defence subsidiary of Bharat Forge Ltd) and Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd of Israel.
- Bharat Forge had set up Kalyani Strategic Systems Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary, as a flagship company to drive defence business initiatives of the group.
