Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the fifth unit of IFFCO Nano Urea Plant at Deoghar, Jharkhand

  • Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah performed Bhumi Pujan and laid the foundation stone of the fifth unit of IFFCO Nano Urea Plant at Deoghar, Jharkhand.
  • Shri Shah said that with the construction of the Deoghar unit, about 6 crore liquid urea bottles will be manufactured here every year, which will reduce our dependence on the import of Urea and India will become self- reliant. 
  • The Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, said that this small bottle of 500 ml would become a substitute for a full bag of urea.

Shri Bhupender Yadav launches ‘Save Wetlands Campaign’ as a “whole of society” approach for wetlands conservation

  • Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched the ‘Save Wetlands Campaign’ in the presence of Chief Minister of Goa. This campaign is structured on a “whole of society” approach for wetlands conservation, enabling affirmative actions for wetlands conservation at all levels of the society and involving all strata of the society.
  • Two publications were also released during the occasion, ‘India’s 75 Amrit Dharohar- India’s Ramsar Sites Factbook’ and ‘Managing Climate Risks in Wetlands – A Practitioner’s Guide. The fact book is a one-stop resource of information on our 75 Ramsar Sites, including their values, threats they face and management arrangements. The practitioner’s Guide on Climate Risk Assessment provides step-wise guidance on assessing the site-level climate risks and integration of adaptation and mitigation responses into the wetland management plan.
  • This campaign over next one year will include sensitizing people of the value of wetlands, increasing the coverage of wetland mitras and building citizen partnerships for wetlands conservation.

NTPC to host G20 International Seminar on ‘Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage

  • India has assumed the presidency of G20 from 1st December 2022 for a period of one year. In its presidency, 1st Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) Meeting is scheduled to be held from 5th February to 7th February 2023.
  • NTPC, India’s largest integrated power utility, on behalf of Ministry of Power, Govt of India, will be hosting a side event in form of an International Seminar on Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage (CCUS) on 5th February 2023 at Taj Westend, Bengaluru. This seminar is likely to be attended by industries, policy makers, scientists and academicians of different countries.
  • The seminar will focus on underlining the importance of CCUS for achieving “clean energy transition” and subsequently moving towards Net Zero.

CAG to host 6th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation SAI Leaders’ Meeting in Lucknow

  • The Comptroller and Auditor General of India, CAG, is hosting the 6th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) SAI Leaders’ Meeting in Lucknow beginning tomorrow, February 6.
  • Out of the eight SCO Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) member country delegations participating in the event, the heads of SAIs from four countries – Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, alongside the CAG of India, are expected to take part in the three-day multilateral event.
  • Comptroller and Auditor General of India, Girish Chandra Murmu will lead the discussions on the theme “Integrating Emerging Technologies in Audit”. Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel will inaugurate the meeting.

Sri Lanka celebrates 75th Independence Day

  • Sri Lanka is celebrating 75 years of Independence on 04th February 2023, under the theme Namo Namo Matha – A step towards a century. The main ceremony of the National Independence Day Celebrations was held at Galle Face Green in Colombo
  • Union Minister of State for External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan who had reached Colombo participated in the Independence Day celebrations. 
  • The minister interacted with Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremasinghe and Sri Lankan Minster of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry and discussed issues of mutual interest.

LG Manoj Sinha inaugurates SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2023 in Jammu

  • Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2023 at Aquaplex Crown at Bagh-e-Bahu, Jammu. The fair is witnessing participation of women Self Help Groups from around 25 States and UTs across the country.
  • The Self Help Groups will display handicraft, handloom and natural food items from different rural areas across the country. This will be a National-level fair that will exhibit unique and famous indigenous products from various states and UTs. Several cultural events and plays on different Government schemes and campaigns will also be held during the fair.
  • The 11-day-long fair is first of its kind in the Union Territory of J&K. The mega event will provide a platform for the rural SHG women to sell and promote their self-made products & create marketing linkages with various selling platforms. Seventy-five stalls and 10 food courts have been set up at the exhibition site showcasing crafts, handicrafts, handloom and cuisine.

Uttar Pradesh CM inaugurates VFS Global Visa Application Center in Lucknow

  • The residents of Uttar Pradesh will no longer need to go to Delhi to apply for visas
  • People of state will get a simple process to apply for visas for 10 countries in Lucknow from 9th February 2023. 
  • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said this during the inauguration of the VFS Global Visa Application Center in Lucknow.
  • Yogi informed that the visa applications from many countries including Australia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Switzerland, Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Germany will be accepted here. This Visa Application Center has the capacity to handle over 1.20 lakh visa applications per annum.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has launched an initiative ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’

  • Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has launched an initiative under which 100 trees will be planted for every child born in the Himalayan state. 
  • The initiative, named ‘Mero Rukh Mero Santati’ (Plant a Tree, leave a Legacy), is aimed at strengthening the connect between parents, children and nature by planting trees to commemorate childbirth.
  • Forest Department Secretary Pradeep Kumar said the initiative will transform the attitude of the people towards nature, and saplings planted to commemorate childbirth will create a bridge between the generations.

Hindujas to invest Rs 10,000 crore to raise stake in IndusInd Bank

  • The Hinduja group is planning to raise its stake in Indusind Bank from 15 per cent to 26 per cent with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore.
  • Hinduja’s Mauritius-based promoter entity had received the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) approval to raise the stake. In November 2021, the RBI had allowed promoters to own as much as 26 per cent in a bank.
  • The RBI had also permitted promoters of existing banks, who had to reduce their ownership due to earlier guidelines, to bring it back up to 26 per cent.

PVR Cinemas launches multiplex within Chennai airport complex

  • PVR Cinemas has launched of a five-screen property at PVR Aerohub in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, the first multiplex in the country to be housed within an airport complex. The cinema will serve the entertainment needs for arriving and departing passengers besides benefiting residents in the neighbourhood.
  • With this launch, PVR Cinemas will have 12 properties in Chennai and 77 screens while consolidating its foothold in Tamil Nadu with 88 screens across 14 properties. Its screen count in south India will grow to 328 in 53 properties.
  • The airport cinema has a seating capacity of 1155 and is equipped with 2K RGB+ laser projectors, digital stereoscopic projection and advanced Dolby Atmos high-definition immersive audio.

Equatorial Guinea appoints Manuela Roka Botey as first female PM

  • Equatorial Guinea has appointed Manuela Roka Botey as prime minister. She became the first woman in the country to hold the position. President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who has ruled the country since 1979, made the announcement in a decree read on state television.
  • Ms Rotey was previously the education minister and joined the government in 2020. She replaces former premier Francisco Pascual Obama Asue, who has been in the position since 2016.

Obituary

Former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf passes away in Dubai

  • Pervez Musharraf, former President of Pakistan, passed away after a prolonged illness at a hospital in Dubai. 
  • He was 79. Musharraf had been undergoing treatment for an ailment at an American Hospital Dubai.
  • Musharraf has been declared a fugitive in the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto murder case and Red Mosque cleric killing case. 
  • The former President, living in Dubai since 2016, was facing a treason case for suspending the Constitution in 2007.

  • Musharraf was born on August 11, 1943, in Delhi and completed his early education at St Patrick’s High School in Karachi. The former president pursued higher education at Forman Christian College in Lahore.

Anurag Singh Thakur along with LG J&K launches 3rd Khelo India Winter Games Mascot, Theme Song and Jersey

  • Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Sh. Anurag Singh Thakur along with Lieutenant Governor, Jammu & Kashmir, Sh. Manoj Sinha launched 3rd Khelo India Winter Games Mascot, Theme Song and Jersey at Raj Bhavan, Jammu.

  • The Winter Games are scheduled to be held from 10th to 14th this month at Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir. The Khelo India Winter Games is supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and is organized by the J&K Sports Council as well as the Winter Games Association, J&K.

  • More than 1500 players across the country will take part in the games that will take place in Gulmarg and will be played across 9 sports events. The 1st edition of the Khelo India Winter Games took place in 2020 and Jammu and Kashmir have come on top in both editions of the games so far.
