NITI Aayog assessing impact of climate change, labour issues on exports
- The government is assessing the country’s preparedness to counter the impact of non-trade related issues such as labour, gender balance, deforestation, climate change and sustainable development being used by many countries to impose restrictions or additional tariffs on exports.
- NITI Aayog is holistically looking at these issues and their implications on exports and will soon firm up its recommendations to ensure India maintains its export growth momentum
- India has set a target of exports of $1 trillion each in goods and services by 2030.
- The aim is to raise the country’s share of exports in global trade to 3% by 2027 and 10% by 2047 from the current 2.1%.
- However, the Aayog is of the view that these targets have not factored in the impact of non-trade related issues which are increasingly becoming important.

MoHUA to organise review-cum-workshop to accelerate Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0
- To evaluate and accelerate the scale of planning and implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, the Union housing and urban affairs ministry will organise a review-cum-workshop.
- The ministry said over the last eight years, the mission has revolutionised sanitation in urban India by building nearly 70 lakh household, community and public toilets, and more than 4,000 cities have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF), thus providing safe and dignified sanitation solutions for all.
- The mission, has focused on inclusive sanitation by prioritising the needs of women, transgenders and ‘divyangs’.
- The day-long review-cum-workshop will be organised in presence of Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri at the Vigyan Bhawan.
- Discussions will be held around municipal solid waste management, municipal used water management in small cities, community toilets and public toilets management, ‘safai mitra suraksha’ and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT).

Union Minister for Fisheries inaugurates exhibition on fisheries start-ups and fish cooperatives
- Union Minister for fisheries Parshottam Rupala inaugurated the celebrations, at Mahabalipuram near Chennai, by opening an exhibition on fisheries start-ups and fish cooperatives.
- Union Minister of State for fisheries L.Murugan and Union Minister of State Dr. Sanjeev K Balyan were present at the inauguration.
- State Minister of fisheries Anitha Radhakrishnan was also present at the inauguration.
- They interacted with the exhibitors at the venue.
- The Minister will virtually inaugurate fisheries projects and also virtually interact with the fisher folks at the inaugural sites.
- The two-day celebrations will also have an assessment of Indian Council of Agricultural Research initiatives and discussion with fisheries departments of various states.

MHA directs maritime states to enforce stricter norms to curb smuggling of drugs, illegal items
- The government has issued directives to 9 states and 2 union territories with maritime borders to secure their coastal frontiers with a new set of guidelines to curb smuggling and anti-national activities.
- Ministry of Home Affairs is awaiting responses and status updates, on the directive issued in March this year, from most of the states which have not only been asked to enforce stringent compliance at the ports under their control but have also been asked to increase surveillance and tighten security along their respective coastlines to curb instances on drug and arms smuggling and other illegal activities.
- A similar notification was last issued in 2016.
- The move also assumes significance amidst the Indian Ports Bill 2022, a draft of which was released by the government in mid-2022 for suggestions, pending in the pipeline.

Piyush Goyal to visit UK for FTA negotiations, review progress of TEPA
- Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Piyush Goyal, will start his three-day visit to the United Kingdom with a focus on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
- During his three-day visit the Commerce Minister will meet ministers from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) member countries to discuss the progress of the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA).
- During the visit, the Commerce and Industry Minister will engage in high-level meetings with his UK counterparts, including the Secretary of State for International Trade, as well as representatives from various sectors and industries.
- These meetings will provide an opportunity to discuss the key priorities and objectives of the FTA negotiations, with a focus on addressing trade barriers, promoting investments, and fostering greater cooperation in areas such as technology, innovation, and intellectual property rights.

India and Malaysia discuss roadmap for fourth decade of defence cooperation between two countries
- India and Malaysia reviewed the diverse pillars of the extensive bilateral defence engagement.
- Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh met Malaysian counterpart Mohamad Hasan in Kuala Lumpur and discussed the roadmap for the 4th Decade of India-Malaysia Defence Cooperation.
- India and Malaysia have a common interest in peace and prosperity of the entire region.
- The two countries have a robust and multifaceted relationship which has expanded into several strategic areas, including defence and security.

Shravani Mela Deoghar 2023
- Shravani Mela, also known as Shravani Mela Deoghar, is a major religious festival celebrated in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand, India.
- It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and attracts millions of devotees from various parts of the country.
- Shravani Mela starts in the month of July and ends in August.
- The importance of Baba Dham increases in the month of Shravan.
- During this, lakhs of devotees come to Baba Baidyanath Dham for holy darshan.
- It is the longest religious fair in the world.

India’s First-Ever Vedic Theme Park
- Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, officially unveiled India’s first park, Ved Van Park, with a Vedic theme in Sector 78 in Noida.
- The area is known as the Ved Van Park and is home to more than 50,000 plants, including the coconut, kalpavriksha, and banyan, which are described in Vedic literature.
- The park’s construction started in January 2021, and according to reports, it now occupies the site of a trash yard.
- The soil has to be compacted in order to provide a favourable environment for tree planting and to make building easier.
- The Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda, and Atharva Veda are all represented in wall murals and sculptures at the park, which is thought to have cost Rs 27 crores to build.
- Other attractions include laser and sound displays.
- The park wants to entertain and educate its visitors in order to achieve a dual goal.

Himachal CM inaugurates Rs 25 crore new academic block at HPTU
- Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the new academic block at Himachal Pradesh Technical University (HPTU) Hamirpur, constructed at a cost of Rs 25 crore.
- He also laid the foundation stones for the Rs 2.01 crore Revenue staff residential colony in Hamirpur and the Rs 5.27 crore link road from Bhagot to Phaphan in Gram Panchayat Ukhali.
- He also inaugurated the Canteen Block constructed at a cost of Rs 94 lakh at Government College, Hamirpur.
- During a program at Government College Hamirpur, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to bring radical changes in the education system.
- Rajiv Gandhi Government Model Day-Boarding Schools will be established in each assembly constituency in a phased manner.

Haryana targets to increase horticulture area
- Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that the state government is constantly working to expand the horticulture sector.
- The government has set an aim to double the horticultural area to 22 lakh acres by 2030, from the current 7 percent of total cultivated land, and triple the production by then.
- For this, subsidies are offered to farmers under various schemes.
- In the financial year 2022-23, a subsidy of Rs 166.20 crore was distributed to 25,000 beneficiaries under various horticulture schemes.

IoTechWorld bags order from IFFCO to supply of 500 agri-drones
- Agri-drone maker IoTechWorld Avigation has secured a large contract from cooperative fertiliser major IFFCO for supplying 500 drones, which will be primarily used for spraying nano liquid urea and DAP.
- Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) plans to procure 2,500 drones for spraying its products nano urea and nano DAP (Diammonium Phosphate).
- IFFCO also plans to create 5,000 rural entrepreneurs, who would be trained for spraying via drones.
- The company will deliver 500 drones to IFFCO by December 2023.
- Gurugram-headquartered IoTechWorld is a manufacturer of India’s first DGCA-type certified drone ‘AGRIBOT’.
- The company is also backed by agro-chemical firm Dhanuka Agritech Ltd.
NHB operationalises ₹10,000-crore Urban Infrastructure Development Fund
- The National Housing Bank (NHB) has operationalised the ₹10,000-crore Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (UIDF) announced in this year’s Budget for creation of urban infrastructure in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
- The initial corpus for this fund — managed by NHB— is ₹10,000 crore.
- UIDF has been launched to supplement efforts of the State governments by providing stable and predictable source of finance for creation of urban infrastructure in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.
- As many as 459 tier-2 cities with population of 50,000 to less than a lakh and 580 tier-3 cities with population of one lakh to less than a million as per 2011 census are being covered under UDIF as of now.
- It maybe recalled that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had in her budget speech this year announced setting up of the UIDF through use of priority sector lending shortfall for creation of urban infrastructure in tier 2 and tier 3 cities.
- Interest rate on UIDF loans has been kept at bank rate minus 1.5 percent i.e., 5.25 percent at present.
- The loan (principal) will be repayable in five equal annual instalments within seven years from the date of withdrawal, including a moratorium period of two years while interest will be payable on quarterly basis.

Uzbek leader re-elected for seven-year term
- Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was re-elected with 87.1% of the vote.
- Mirziyoyev, in power since 2016, called a snap election after changing the constitution through a referendum which reset his term count and extended the presidential term to seven years from five.

Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman to take charge as IFSCA chairman
- Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman has been appointed as the new chairperson of the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA), succeeding Injeti Srinivas for three years.
- Injeti Srinivas, the first chairperson of the regulatory authority appointed in 2020.
- The IFSCA was established in April 2020 under the International Financial Services Centres Authority Act, 2019.
- It is headquartered at GIFT City, Gandhinagar.
- Currently, GIFT IFSC is India’s first international financial services cent.
Justice Sheo Kumar Singh appointed acting chairperson of National Green Tribunal
- The Centre appointed Justice Sheo Kumar Singh, a judicial member of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), as its acting chairperson following the retirement of Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel.
- He also served as a judge, Industrial Tribunal UP, chairman of oversight committee, UP constituted by NGT.
- Adarsh Kumar Goel who had taken over NGT as chairperson on July 6, 2018, completed his tenure of five years.

- Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen clinched Men’s Singles title of the Canada Open 2023 badminton tournament defeating Li Shi Feng of China 21-18, 22-20 in the in Calgary, Canada.
- This is the first BWF World Tour title of Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen after almost a year.

Archery Youth World Championship
- India won 11 medals at the World Archery Youth Championships 2023 in Limerick, Ireland.
- The medal haul of the 24-member Indian contingent included six gold, one silver and four bronze.
- The World Archery Youth Championships 2023 had events for men’s and women’s recurve and compound archers in the under-21 and under-18 age categories.
- Individual, as well as team events, took place at the University of Limerick.
- India sent 12 archers each in the U21 and U18 age groups.
- Of the 11 medals India won, six were bagged in the U21 category — four gold and two bronze.

- The day is celebrated to commemorate the contribution of eminent fisheries scientist professor Hiralal Chaudhary and his colleague Alikunhi in achieving successful induced breeding of Indian Major Carps in the country on July 10, 1957, at Angul in Odisha.
