Government launched sale of subsidised chana dal under brand name 'Bharat Dal' at Rs 60/kg

  • Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Piyush Goyal has launched the sale of subsidised Chana Dal under the brand name ‘Bharat Dal’ at the rate of 60 rupees per kilogram for one kilogram pack and 55 rupees per kilogram for 30 kilogram pack.
  • The introduction of ‘Bharat Dal’ is a major step taken by the Central government towards making pulses available to consumers at affordable prices.
  • The retail outlets of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation, NAFED in Delhi-NCR are selling the chana dal.
  • The milling and packaging of the Chana Dal has been undertaken by National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation, NAFED for distribution through its retail outlets in Delhi-NCR and also through the outlets of Kendriya Bhandar and Safal.

MP government to set up 9,000 'CM Rise' schools

  • The Madhya Pradesh government will set up 9,000 ‘CM Rise’ schools to provide quality education.
  • Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated a CM Rise School in Gulana village and announced that it would be named after legendary jurist and social reformer Babasaheb Ambedkar.
  • 9,000 CM Rise schools will be set up to provide quality education and these will have ‘smart classes’ through which teachers from Delhi and Mumbai can teach students.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurates the New Integrated Terminal Building of Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the new integrated terminal building of Veer Savarkar International Airport.
  • The new terminal building of the airport is built at a cost of Rs. 710 Crore, on a 40,837 square meters area, and is capable of serving 1200 passengers during peak hours, which is more than three times the current capacity.
  • Inspired by the rich biodiversity of the picturesque islands, the Port Blair Terminal building is an oyster-shaped structure that reflects the beauty of the sea and the island.
  • The terminal building has been designed in such a way that the terminal is fully lit naturally during the daytime.
  • A Statue of freedom fighter, Veer Savarkar is also erected at the Airport.
  • The event was organized in hybrid mode.
  • Prime Minister inaugurated the terminal building by pressing a remote button through video conferencing and other dignitaries were present at the airport.

Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Secretary Swapnil Naik launches ‘Yuva Tourism Club’ in Itanagar

  • Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Secretary Swapnil Naik launched the Yuva Tourism Club in a function organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Arunachal Pradesh State Tourism Dept at State Food Craft Institute in Itanagar.
  • The Yuva Tourism Club is an initiative by the Ministry of Tourism, to nurture and develop young ambassadors of tourism.
  • It aims at making these young ambassadors to be a catalyst for promoting tourism in India.
  • 135 Yuva Tourism Clubs are formed with over 5000 members.

Jal Jeevan Mission achieves 60% of its target

  • The state government will incur Rs 700 crore during this financial year in providing subsidies for wholesome meals to the needy under the Indira Rasoi Yojana.
  • The main aim of Indira Rasoi is to provide a wholesome meal with “dignity” for Rs 8 only.
  • The scheme was started by the Ashok Gehlot government on August 20, 2020, with 358 kitchens in 213 urban local bodies.
  • Food was being served for Rs 8 per plate that included 100 gm dal, 100 gm sabzi, 250 gm chapati and pickle.
  • Around 1,000 Indira Rasois operational in the state till the end of last financial year (2022-23).
  • Now planned to increase the number to 2,000 by expanding mainly in rural areas.

PNB launches Mahila Samman Certificate

  • Punjab National Bank (PNB) launches Mahila Samman Certificate, 2023 for its women customers.
  • PNB is the fourth bank to offer this small savings scheme.
  • Mahila Samman Certificate intends to improve access to the scheme for girls and women.
  • The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, by an e-gazette announcement published on June 27, 2023, authorised all Public Sector Banks and qualified Private Sector Banks to execute and operationalize the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate, 2023.
  • Earlier, it was offered only by Post Office and has been in operation since April 1, 2023.

PhonePe Insurance launches monthly subscriptions for health policies

  • PhonePe Insurance Broking Services launched health coverage plans with a UPI-based monthly mode of payment.
  • The company, a wholly owned subsidiary of fintech major PhonePe, said it has sold more than 5.6 million policies.
  • Its insurance plans have a coverage of up to Rs 1 crore and allow users to choose any hospital room without limit.
  • The company said that a user can avail of a bonus cover up to seven times the base cover amount for each claim-free year.
  • Customers can purchase health insurance on the company’s website, compare policies, and set up a monthly mandate or pay annually for a policy.
  • The company said its health insurance plans provide pre and post-sales assistance to help users make decisions, file claims, and access other services.

HDFC Bank becomes world’s 7th largest lender post merger

  • The merged entity of HDFC Bank and HDFC became the world’s seventh-most-valuable bank with its market capitalisation soaring to $154 billion, or Rs 12.66 lakh crore.
  • The market value of HDFC Bank is now more than that of Bank of China and Royal Bank of Canada.
  • ICICI Bank is ranked 16th and SBI is at the 22nd spot in the list of the world’s most valuable banks.

Need to grow at 7.6% to be a developed nation by 2047-48, says RBI

  • The study by Reserve Bank of India staffers said for India to become a developed country by 2047-48, would require real GDP to grow at 7.6 per cent per annum over the next 25 years, raising its current per capita GDP of $ 2,500 to $ 22,000.
  • The sustainable path to development requires investment in physical capital and comprehensive reforms across sectors covering education, infrastructure, healthcare and technology to raise productivity.
  • According to World Bank, a country with a per capita income of $13,205 or more in 2022-23 is classified as a high-income country.
  • The International Monetary Fund classifies countries into two major groups: Advanced Economies and Emerging Market and Developing Economies.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah launched ‘CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal’ in New Delhi

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched CRCS-Sahara Refund Portal in New Delhi.
  • The portal will help more than 10 crore depositors of Sahara Group claim their money back.
  • The process of returning the money of depositors, which was stuck in four cooperative societies of Sahara Group, has started with the launch of the Sahara Refund Portal.
  • In the initial phase, the refund portal will disburse up to Rs 5000 crore to depositors.
  • However, each depositor will be able to get only Rs 10,000 in the first phase.
  • The entire process of refund will be online.
  • There are 4 crore depositors who are eligible to get up to 10,000 rupees.
  • Once this initiative succeeds, further decisions to address claims of depositors, who have more money stuck in the Sahara Group’s cooperative societies, will be taken.

Rajay Kumar Sinha appointed as SBICAPS chief

  • Rajay Kumar Sinha has taken charge of SBI Capital Markets Limited (SBICAPS) with effect from July 14.
  • He has replaced Amitava Chatterjee, who has moved to SBI, Corporate Centre, as Deputy Managing Director, in charge of Commercial Clients Group.
  • Prior to this, he was in charge of Treasury operations at State Bank of India (SBI), managing investment portfolio, money market, equity, private equity & forex operations of the bank.

  • President Droupadi Murmu presented the Bhoomi Samman 2023 at a function in New Delhi.

Obituary

Former Kerala CM Oommen Chandy passes away at 79

  • Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has passed away at 79.
  • He led the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) ministries in Kerala from August 31, 2004, to May 12, 2006, and from May 18, 2011, to May 20, 2016.
  • During a long political career, Chandy served as Labour’s Minister in 1977 in the K. Karunakaran Ministry and held the same portfolio in the Ministry led by A.K. Antony in the succeeding cabinet.
  • He was the Home Minister in the K. Karunakaran cabinet from December 1981 to March 1982.
  • He also held the Finance portfolio in the UDF ministry of 1991.
  • He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1970.
  • He was also the convener of the UDF during 1982-86 and 2001-2004.
  • Chandy took over as Chief Minister in 2004 following the resignation of A.K. Antony.
  • He became CM a second time in 2011.
  • He was also Opposition Leader during 2006-2011.

  • In Para Athletics, Ajeet Singh has clinched the gold medal in the finals of the Men’s javelin throw F46 in the ongoing Championships in Paris.
  • He pulled out a throw of 65.41 and finished on top of the tree.
  • He broke the championship record, which was earlier held by Chunliang Guo of China with a throw of 61.89.
  • Another countryman, Rinku won the silver medal with a best throw of 65.38.
  • Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Priyantha Herath finished joint second with Rinku.
  • India’s Sundar Singh Gujjar bagged the fourth position with a throw of 61.81.

Argentina to buy indigenous Tejas Mark-1A and LCH Prachanda for 8675 crores

  • Argentina’s Defence Minister Jorge Tayna is on a visit to India.
  • He is going to hold a bilateral meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
  • The two sides are expected to discuss ways to strengthen defence and cooperation.
  • There is also a possibility of a Rs 8675 crore deal with India for the fourth-generation fighter aircraft Tejas Mark-1A and LCH Prachanda during this visit of the Defence Minister of Argentina.

INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata

  • Two frontline Indian Naval ships INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata, mission deployed in South Eastern IOR, arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia.
  • During the port call, personnel from Indian and Indonesian navies will engage in a wide range of professional interactions, joint yoga sessions, sports fixtures and cross-deck visits, aimed at strengthening mutual cooperation and understanding between the two navies.
  • Upon completion of the operational turnaround, the two ships will also participate in a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) at sea with the Indonesian Navy towards further bolstering the high degree of interoperability that already exists between the two navies.
  • INS Sahyadri is the third indigenously designed and built Project-17 class stealth frigate and INS Kolkata is the first indigenously designed and built stealth destroyer of the Project-15A class.
  • Both the ships have been built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, Mumbai.
