Ministry Of Jal Shakti To Celebrate 1st Anniversary Of Rural WASH Partners' Forum
- The Rural WASH Partners’ Forum (RWPF), a platform of Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti, for Development and Sector Partners working in the rural WASH sector in India, is celebrating its 1st anniversary with a two-day National Conference on 21st July 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
- The conference will be inaugurated by Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and bring together stakeholders from across the WASH sector to discuss the progress made in the past year and the path forward to support the expeditious implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission-Grameen (SBM-G), the flagship missions of DDWS, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt. of India.
- The theme of the conference is “Accelerating Progress towards a Swachh Sujal Bharat.”
- The National Conference will provide a forum for partners to share their experiences, learn from each other, and identify new ways to collaborate.
- The conference will also feature keynote speakers from government, the private sector, and civil society focusing on the following key areas:
- Reviewing the progress made in the past year on JJM and SBM-G
- Identifying the challenges and opportunities for the WASH sector in rural India
- Developing a roadmap for the future of the WASH sector

India set to begin Airbus C-295 manufacturing
- India is set to begin manufacturing of assemblies of C295 military aircraft ahead of the first aerial platform flying into Delhi mid-September to steamroll the country’s indigenous private aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.
- India has to acquire 56 C295s, the new generation tactical airlifters in medium segment, for the Indian Air force (IAF), as part of ₹21,935 crores worth contract signed between Airbus Defence and Space and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd (TASL) in September of 2021.
- Of that, 16 will come from Airbus final assembly line (FAL) facility at Seville in scheduled batches.

India, Russia focuses on extending the ongoing defence engagements between two sides
- The third meeting of the Working Group on Military Cooperation of the Indian-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Military and Military-Technical Cooperation concluded at Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi.
- The discussions focused on extending the ongoing defence engagements between the two sides.
- The Working Group mulled new initiatives under the ambit of the existing bilateral defence corporation mechanism.
- The meeting is a forum established to progress defence cooperation between both countries through regular talks at the strategic and operational levels between the Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff, and the Main Directorate of International Military Cooperation of the Russian Ministry of Defence.

Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik announces Rs 56 crore bonus, incentives for kendu leaf pluckers, binders
- Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced Rs 56-crore financial assistance for over 8 lakh kendu leaf puckers and others engaged in such a trade.
- In the third phase of the 2022 crop year, a 25 per cent bonus will be given to 7.75 lakh kendu leaf pluckers and a 5 per cent incentive to 40,000 binders and temporary workers.
- A total amount of Rs 56.23 crore will be given to the kendu leaf workers.
- In the first phase of the 2022 crop year, Rs 1,000 was given to each kendu leaf plucker, and Rs 1,500 to each binder and temporary worker.
- Similarly, in the second tranche, Rs 1,000 was given to each kendu leaf plucker along with Rs 200 for water bottles and Rs 160 for chappals.
- During this phase, binders and temporary workers were given Rs 1,500 each, and thus the total financial aid was Rs 111.21 crore.
- The total amount of assistance given to the kendu leaf pluckers and binders for the 2022 crop year would be Rs 250.78 crore, which is a “record in a single crop year.

DPIIT and Govt. of Gujarat jointly launch ‘One District One Product’ Wall at Garvi Gujarat Bhawan
- One District One Product (ODOP) program, an initiative under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, launched its first collaboration with the Government of Gujarat in New Delhi to promote the indigenous crafts and artisans of the State.
- Smt. Manmeet Nanda, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, and Smt. Arti Kanwar, Resident Commissioner and Secretary (Economic Affairs) Finance Department, Government of Gujarat jointly inaugurated the ODOP Wall at Garvi Gujarat Bhawan.
- Gujarat, with its 33 districts, exemplifies the vast geographic coverage and potential for diverse products across the state.
- ODOP-Gujarat features a rich collection of 68 unique products, ranging from traditional crafts like Gamthi Block print and Mata-ni-Pachedi to agricultural goods such as groundnuts and cumin.

Gujarat to get country’s 1st ‘Satellite Network Portal Site’
- Gujarat will get the country’s first ‘Satellite Network Portal Site’.
- An MoU was signed between OneWeb and the state government in Gandhinagar for the establishment of the Satellite Network Portal Site’ near Mehsana.
- The satellite network portal will be set up at two places in Jotana taluka of Mehsana district with an estimated cost of over Rs. 100 crores for Phase-1.
- This project under Digital India, aims to provide affordable, secure and high speed internet access to villages, district panchayats, local administrative bodies, government departments, and other entities throughout the country.
- It is also expected to create approximately 500 direct and indirect employment opportunities in the state.

Rajasthan minimum income Bill
- The Ashok Gehlot government tabled the Rajasthan Minimum Guaranteed Income Bill, 2023, which effectively seeks to cover the entire adult population of the state with guaranteed wages or pension.
- Under the Bill, all families of the state get guaranteed employment of 125 days every year, while the aged, disabled, widows, and single women get a minimum pension of Rs 1,000 per month.
- Importantly, the pension will be increased at the rate of 15 per cent each year.
- The Bill has three broad categories: right to minimum guaranteed income, right to guaranteed employment, and right to guaranteed social security pension.
- The government anticipates an additional expenditure of Rs 2,500 crore per year for this scheme, which may increase with time.
- Minimum guaranteed income: Each adult citizen of the state has been guaranteed a minimum income for 125 days a year through the Rajasthan government’s flagship Indira Gandhi Shahri Rozgar Guarantee Yojana for urban areas, and through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in rural areas.

Government launches first-ever credit guarantee scheme for collateral-free loans to livestock MSMEs
- Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD) under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying announced the launch of a new credit guarantee scheme.
- The scheme under the Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF) aims to facilitate collateral-free credit for MSMEs in the livestock sector.
- To operationalize the scheme, DAHD said it has set up a credit guarantee fund trust of Rs 750 crores for credit guarantee coverage of up to 25 per cent of loans disbursed to MSMEs by eligible banks and other lending institutions.
- The primary aim of the scheme is for the lender to focus on project viability and secure the credit facility only based on the primary security of the assets financed.

- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cancelled the licence of Uttar Pradesh-based United India Co-operative Bank Limited, citing lack of adequate capital and earning prospects.
- 99.98 per cent of the depositors are entitled to receive full amount of their deposits from DICGC.

- One97 Communications Limited (OCL) that owns the brand Paytm, has launched a new ad campaign ‘India Kahe Paytm Karo’.

IIT Guwahati, ICWA partner to enhance international affairs & foreign policy skills
- The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA) as a step towards enhancing its expertise in international affairs and foreign policy.
- The MoU also aims to build capacity and skills in these critical areas.
- This collaboration was a result of the visit by the Vice-President of India, Jagdeep Dhankhar, to IIT Guwahati earlier this month.
- The MoU was signed between Parameswar Krishnan Iyer, the officiating director of IIT Guwahati, and Ambassador Vijay Thakur Singh, the director-general of ICWA, with the goal of expanding awareness and knowledge on international affairs and Indian foreign policy.
- The agreement will be in effect for a period of three years.
Ministry Of Culture And The Indian Navy Sign An MoU To Revive The “Ancient Stitched Shipbuilding Method (Tankai Method)”
- In a remarkable initiative to revive and preserve the 2000-year-old technique of shipbuilding known as the ‘stitched shipbuilding method’, the Ministry of Culture and the Indian Navy have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
- The Indian Navy will oversee the implementation and execution of the entire project.
- As custodians of maritime security and experts in the field, the Indian Navy’s involvement ensures seamless project management and adherence to the highest standards of safety and precision.
- Their invaluable experience and technical knowledge will play a pivotal role in the successful revival of the ancient stitching method and the construction of the stitched ship.

Global Food Regulators Summit 2023
- Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the maiden Global Food Regulators Summit 2023 in the presence of Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Shri Narendra Tomar and special guest Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Govt. of Nepal, Dr. Bedu Ram Bhusal.

- This summit is an endeavour of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) to create a global platform of food regulators to exchange perspectives on strengthening food safety systems and regulatory framework across the food value chain.

ASEAN Countries Conference on Traditional Medicines
- India will host the ASEAN Countries Conference on Traditional Medicines in New Delhi.
- The India-ASEAN conference is being held after almost a decade, and 10 ASEAN countries including Cambodia, and Vietnam will participate in it.
- The Conference aims to strengthen the platform between India and ASEAN countries to share their best practices and draw a roadmap for future cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicines.
- AYUSH has unprecedented potential for expansion of ‘Act East Policy’ in traditional systems of medicine.
- The Ayush sector has grown multi-fold in the last nine years since 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi elevated the then Department of Ayush under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to an independent Ministry of Ayush.

Uttar Pradesh government launched portal for processing EV subsidy claims
- To promote electric vehicles in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government launched a subsidy portal which will allow customers who bought e-vehicles after October 14, 2022, to claim financial support.
- For availing of the subsidy people have to apply on upevsubsidy.in portal.
- Once the application is submitted, the subsidy amount will be transferred to the customer’s bank account after successful completion of a four-level verification process.
- This initiative is part of the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy, 2022, which includes a purchase subsidy incentive scheme.
- The development and maintenance of the portal have been entrusted to UPDESCO (Uttar Pradesh Development Systems Corporation Ltd).
- Under the Policy permission has been granted for the implementation of the Purchase Subsidy Promotion Scheme on certain conditions.
- This scheme is effective from 14th October 2022 and will continue till October 13, 2023.

Rakesh Pal takes over as Director General of the Indian Coast Guard
- Rakesh Pal has been appointed as the 25th Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
- He is an alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy and joined Indian Coast Guard in January 1989.
- He has undergone professional specialisation in Gunnery & Weapons Systems at Indian Naval School Dronacharya, Kochi, and an Electro-Optics Fire Control Solution course from the United Kingdom.
- Rakesh Pal was elevated to the rank of Additional Director General in February 2022 and was posted at Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi.
- He was given the additional charge of Director General Coast Guard in February 2023.
- He has vast sea experience and commanded all classes of ICG ships namely; ICGS Samarth, ICGS Vijit, ICGS Sucheta Kriplani, ICGS Ahalyabai, and ICGS C-03.
- The Officer has also Commanded two Coast Guard bases of the forward area in Gujarat – Okha & Vadinar.
Ms. Nivruti Rai appointed as Managing Director & CEO of Invest India
- Ms. Nivruti Rai joined as the Managing Director & CEO of Invest India on July 12, 2023.
- She has taken over the charge from Ms. Manmeet K Nanda, Joint Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) who had assumed this additional charge of MD & CEO ad-interim in March 2023.
- Ms. Rai is the recipient of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskar for her remarkable contributions in the field of technology.

NITI Aayog’s Export Preparedness Index 2022
- Tamil Nadu has pipped Maharashtra and Gujarat to emerge as the top state among coastal states in the Niti Aayog‘s Export Preparedness Index 2022.
- The index is aimed at assessing the readiness of the states in terms of their export potential and performance.
- Tamil Nadu is followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal and Kerala in that order in the ranking of coastal states.
- Among hilly/Himalayan states, Uttarakhand has ranked at the top position.
- It is followed by Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram in that order.
- Haryana topped the chart among the landlocked regions.
- It was followed by Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
- In the category of union territories/small states, Goa was ranked first.
- Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar and Ladakh were ranked second, third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
- The index can be used by the regions to benchmark their performance against their peers and analyse potential challenges to develop better policy mechanisms to foster export-led growth at the sub-national level.
- The ranking is based on four main pillars: policy, business ecosystem, export ecosystem and export performance.
- The index is also aimed at promoting competition among all states (coastal, landlocked, Himalayan and UTs) to bring about favourable policies, ease the regulatory framework, create necessary infrastructure and assist in identifying strategic recommendations for improving export competitiveness.

- International Chess Day is celebrated annually on 20 July, the day the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was found, in 1924.
