PM inaugurates Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi
- The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.
- It coincides with the 3rd anniversary of National Education Policy 2020.
- He also released the first installment of funds under the PM SHRI Scheme.
- 6207 schools received the first installment with a total amounting to 630 crore Rupees.
- He also released education and skill curriculum books translated into 12 Indian languages.
DGCA imposes penalty of Rs 30 lakh on IndiGo for tail strike incidents
- The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) imposed a financial penalty of Rs 30 lakh on IndiGo airline for four tail strike incidents within a span of six months this year.
- The DGCA conducted a special audit of IndiGo to examine the company’s documentation and procedures pertaining to the operations, training, engineering, and flight data management (FDM) programme.
- The audit highlighted the deficiency in the training and engineering procedure of IndiGo.

I&B minister Anurag Thakur to inaugurate 11th Jagran Film Festival
- Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur will inaugurate the 11th edition of Jagran Film Festival.
- The four-day film gala will be held in the national capital from August 3 to August 6 at Siri Fort Auditorium.
- It will screen over 55 films from all across the globe, spanning diverse genres, languages, and themes.
- The film festival, organised in association with Uttar Pradesh government, will also travel to Kanpur, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Dehradun, Hisar, Gurgaon, Ludhiana, Patna, Darbhanga, Ranchi, Raipur, Indore, and Siliguri.

Deepika Deshwal is the youngest Indian to deliver a speech at the UN for the third time
- Deepika Deshwal, who has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for being the youngest Indian to deliver a speech at the UN for the third time.
- A social activist, Deepika is a law officer at the Supreme Court and a sportsperson, who has won six gold medals in inter-university tournaments.
- She has served as a government officer for the Punjab administration and is on her way to earn her PhD from Delhi University.
- She has also been honoured with a bravery award from the government of Delhi for rescuing young girls being forced into prostitution.

UCO Bank opens 4 special rupee vostro accounts, gets RBI nod for 8 more
- State-owned UCO Bank has opened four special rupee vostro accounts with Russian banks.
- The bank has also received permission from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for opening eight more accounts.
- Ashwani Kumar, managing director and chief executive officer, UCO Bank, said that four Special Rupee Vostro Account (SRVA) accounts have already been opened with Russian banks.
- We have got permission for eight accounts for which account opening formalities are on.
- Out of these eight, six are from Russia and two from Belarus.
- In addition, four more banks have approached us to open SRVA accounts.

Razorpay launches MoneySaver export account, offers savings on overseas bank transfers
- Payment and banking company Razorpay has launched an account for Indian exporters, the MoneySaver Export Account.
- With this product, Indian exporters will be now open a smart account in any country of their choice and receive payments locally via bank transfers on the Razorpay platform.
- The initiative allows exporters to receive international bank transfers from 160 countries.
- This will be India’s first smart account to offer 50% savings on international bank transfers for exporters, and help save them from high transfer costs, chargebacks and payment failures.

RBI’s Digital Payments Index jumps to 395.57 in March from 377.46 in Sept
- The Reserve Bank of India’s Digital Payments Index, a measure of the extent of digitisation of payments across the country, rose to 395.57 in March 2023 from 377.46 in September 2022 and 349.30 in March 2022.
- The RBI-DPI index has increased across all parameters driven by significant growth in payment infrastructure and payment performance across the country over the period.

India's GDP to reach $6 trillion by 2030: Standard Chartered Research
- India’s GDP will nearly double in the next seven years to $6 trillion, and per capita income will increase to $4,000 by 2030, Standard Chartered Bank Research.
- India’s GDP currently stands at about $3.5 trillion and per capita income at $2,450 during CY 2022.

India signs MoU with Papua New Guinea on sharing INDIA STACK
- The first Global DPI Summit was organised by Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) in Pune, Maharashtra.
- The Summit was attended by over 250 delegates in-person, out of which, there were around 150 foreign delegates from 50 countries.
- More than 2,000 persons attended virtually.
- As a follow-up to the summit, Meity of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) of the Papua New Guinea signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on sharing INDIA STACK i.e., successful digital solutions implemented at population scale in New Delhi.
- During the event, the crucial digital transformational aspects such as Digital Public Infrastructure, Digital Identity, Digital Payment, Data Exchange, Data Governance and Data Protection Policies, internet, and mobile connectivity, etc were discussed.
- It is envisaged that MoU will help build the capacities and result in sharing and implementation of population scale Digital Public Infrastructure and Transformational Platforms/projects for improving ease of living and enhancing efficiency and transparency in the governance.
India & LAO PDR sign MOUs For Five Quick Impact Projects
- Five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed between India & LAO PDR for the implementation of five Quick Impact Projects (QIPs) in the fields of education, health, water facility and IT.
- The MOUs were signed during the 3rd round of Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) held between India and Lao PDR in Vientiane.
- India & LAO PDR share profound religious, cultural, and people-to-people connections stretching far back into history.
- The countries also share excellent political relations, which is why Lao PDR has been supportive of regional & international concerns about India, including our claim of permanent membership of the UNSC.

- The Union Minister of State for Culture, Law & Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, launched the virtual portal of Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar at Qutub Minar premises in New Delhi.
- Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar, a virtual museum that culturally maps over 6.5 lakh villages of India went live for the public amid a grand launch celebration at the Qutub Minar.

J’khand CM launches mobile app to track elephant movement in Jharkhand
- Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren launched a mobile application-based elephant movement tracking system on the occasion of the 74th Van Mahotsav in Ranchi to reduce human-elephant conflicts in the state.
- The mobile app will help villagers and department to track elephant movements so that precautionary measures could be taken in advance.

Hartek Solar bags Rs 80-crore contract for 22 MW floating solar plant on Bhakra Nangal reservoir
- Hartek Solar, part of the Chandigarh-based Hartek group, has bagged a Rs 80-crore contract to build a 22 MW floating solar plant on the reservoir of the Bhakra Nangal dam.
- The plant will be owned by SJVN Ltd, a utility, which will sell the power to the Bhakra Beas Management Board.
- Hartek Solar is one of the leading solar EPC companies, having built about 5 GW of solar plants till date, many of them rooftop plants.
- It has also built a 2 MW floating solar plant on a water tank in Chandigarh.
- The country’s biggest operational floating solar plant is NTPC’s 100 MW plant at Ramagundam, Telangana, while the biggest proposed project is the 600 MW Omkareshwar project in Madhya Pradesh, which, when commissioned, could be the world’s biggest.

- Four Indian young leaders are among 50 social entrepreneurs, environmental champions, innovators, and human rights activists from across the Commonwealth shortlisted for this year’s Youth Awards.
- The young people, aged between 15 to 29, are all involved in initiatives that make tangible contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
- From India, Akshay Makar has been shortlisted under SDG13 Climate Action, Soumya Dabriwal SDG 5 Gender Equality, Kaushal Shetty SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and Shrutika Silswal SDG 4 Quality Education.

- Aditya is the third Indian to achieve their final GM norm at the Biel Chess tournament.
- In 2021, Harshit Raja had earned his 3rd GM-norm in Biel while last year, Pranav Anand had done the same in Biel.
