Centre setting up Civil Aviation Research Organisation in Hyderabad: Kishan Reddy

  • The Centre is setting up a Civil Aviation Research Organisation (CARO) at the Begumpet airport,Hyderabad,Telangana with an estimated expenditure of Rs 400 crore, Union Tourism and Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy.
  • The facility, being set up under the auspices of Airports Authority of India, would carry out advanced research in the aviation sector.

'World's first' bamboo crash barrier installed on Maha highway

  • Union minister Nitin Gadkari said a 200-meter-long bamboo crash barrier has been installed on a highway connecting Chandrapur and Yavatmal districts in Maharashtra, which he termed as the ”world’s first” such exercise.
  • Gadkari said the recycling value of bamboo barriers is 50-70 per cent, while that of steel barriers is 30-50 per cent.

Centre approves new Nano 'game changer' fertilizer, IFFCO says it will help increase farmers' income

  • Fertiliser cooperative IFFCO announced that its IFFCO Nano DAP fertilizer has been approved for sale by the Government of India and will prove to be a game changer for Indian farmers. 
  • It will cost between Rs 600-700 much cheaper than the conventional DAP, IFFCO Chief Dr US Awasthi.
  • Nano DAP LIQUID is a unique foliar formulation that supplies nano Nitrogen (8.0 per cent) and Phosphorus (16.0 per cent) to crops.

Union Ministers Mandaviya, Vaishnaw flag off Jan Aushadhi Train

  • Union Ministers Mansukh Mandaviya and Ashwini Vaishnaw flagged off a Jan Aushadhi Train (Chhattisgarh Samparkranti Express) in New Delhi. This train has been wrapped with the branding of the Jan Aushadhi scheme to spread awareness about Jan Aushadhi Generic medicines which are available through more than 9000 Kendras at affordable prices. 
  • This train will travel through more than four States for two months.

Centre gets 1.07 lakh public grievances in February; maximum against dept of financial services

  • Around 1.07 lakh public grievances were received on an online platform against different government departments, a majority of them against the department of financial services, labour and employment ministry and CBDT. These grievances were received on Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS), an online system that allows citizens to raise complaints.

Indian Railways to launch Bharat Gaurav Train to North East

  • Indian Railways will launch Bharat Gaurav Train to North East on 21st of March.
  • The 15-day North East Discovery: Beyond Guwahati tour, will start from Delhi Safdarjung railway station and cover several places in the states of Assam, Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya.

SWAMIH fund completes over 20,000 homes since inception in 2019

  • SWAMIH or Special Window for Affordable and Mid-Income Housing investment fund has so far provided approval to about 130 projects with sanctions worth over Rs 12,000 crore, and in three years since inception in 2019, it has already completed 20,557 homes and aims to complete over 81,000 homes in the next three years across 30 tier 1 and 2 cities.
  • SWAMIH is India’s largest social impact fund specifically formed for completing stressed and stalled residential projects.
  • The fund is sponsored by the Ministry of Finance and is managed by SBICAP Ventures Ltd., a State Bank Group company.
  • It has raised Rs 15,530 crore so far with an aim to provide priority debt financing for the completion of stressed real estate.

Integrated Teacher Education Programme launched in 57 Institutions from academic session 2023-24

  • National Council for Teacher Education, NCTE, has launched Integrated Teacher Education Programme, ITEP, in 57 Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) for the academic session 2023-24 throughout the country. 
  • This is a flagship programme of NCTE under NEP 2020.
  • ITEP is a 4-year dual-major holistic programme offering graduation degree with Bachelor in Education degree.This integrated course will benefit students since they will save one year by finishing the course in 4 years rather than the customary 5 years required by the present B.Ed. plan. 
  • Admission for the same will be carried out by the National Testing Agency through the National Common Entrance Test.

India, Mexico sign MoU on research, technology and innovation collaborations

  • India and Mexico signed an MoU on research, technology and innovation collaborations in New Delhi. 
  • It will specifically focus on several key technology areas including Aerospace, Electronics, Earth and Ocean Sciences and Water, Mining, Minerals, Clean Energy, Biotech and Healthcare
  • Terming both the countries as Privileged Partners, Science and Technology Minister Dr Jitendra Singh assured Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard that India with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and sister Organizations will provide tangible results in the three priority areas of Water, Lithium and Vaccines flagged by the Mexican side.

Himachal to start pilot project for bio-energy production from pine needles, bamboo

  • Himachal Pradesh will start a pilot project for bio-energy production from pine needles and bamboo as the state is blessed with an enormous wealth of coniferous forest and has a high potential for bamboo production, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.The project would involve the local community and increase their income. The state government is all set to partner with the Indian School of Business (ISB) to provide policy inputs and research support for the emerging bio-energy sector. The state government participated in the country’s largest pharma expo and 17 agreements for an estimated investment of Rs 2,110 crore were signed.

Hetero to invest Rs 1,000 crore in AP over two years to expand pharma business

  • Drug maker Hetero Group will be investing Rs 1,000 crore to expand its pharmaceutical and specialist business in Andhra Pradesh for next 2 years, its Managaing Director Vamsi Krishna Bandi. This will generate an employment of a minimum of 3,000 people.

State govt panel mulls providing customise benefits to attract Rs 12,00-crore investment in Rajasthan

Odisha CM announces establishment of health university to improve medical education

  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced the establishment of a health university in the state on the occasion of the 107th birth anniversary of legendary politician Biju Patnaik. All the medical and allied health science colleges and institutions will stand affiliated to the Odisha University of Health Sciences from the 2023-24 academic session, a notification issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department.
  • The Odisha government approved 25 industrial projects worth Rs 5,827.27 crore, which will create employment for 25,000 people.
  • The State Level Single Window Clearance Authority (SLSWCA) led by Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena has approved the projects, and also recommended three other large scale projects of investment value of Rs 28,000 crore to the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) headed by the Chief Minister.

RBI imposes restrictions on Musiri Urban Co-operative Bank; caps withdrawal at Rs 5,000 per customer

  • The Reserve Bank of India imposed a Rs 5,000 cap on withdrawals by individual customers from Tamil Nadu-based Musiri Urban Co-operative Bank as part of several restrictions slapped on the lender due to its deteriorating financial condition.
  • The restrictions on the lender will remain in force for six months from the close of business on March 3 and are subject to review.

RBI slaps over Rs 3-crore penalty on Amazon Pay

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) imposed a monetary penalty of over Rs 3 crore (3,06,66,000) on Amazon Pay (India) for non-compliance with certain provisions related to Prepaid Payment Instruments (PPIs) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements.

New India Assurance becomes second company to offer surety bonds

  • New India Assurance entered the surety insurance bonds business, becoming the second such domestic insurance company. The regulator Irdai (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) had permitted general insurers to issue surety insurance bonds in April 2022.
  • Last December, Union highways minister Nitin Gadkari had launched the country’s first surety bond insurance for infrastructure projects by the private sector player Bajaj Allianz.

AU Small Finance Bank hikes FD rates, retail customers can now earn up to 8.00%

  • AU Small Finance Bank (SFB) has hiked its interest rates on fixed deposits (FDs) of less than ₹2 Cr. After the modification, the bank currently offers interest rates on deposits maturing in 7 days to 120 months ranging from 3.75% to 7.20% for the general public and 4.25% to 7.70% for senior citizens. Deposits maturing in 24 months 1 day to 36 months will now receive a maximum interest rate of 8% for regular retail investors and 8.10% under the non-callable option. According to the bank’s website, these rates are applicable as of March 3, 2023.

World Bank to give $1-bln loan to India for health infra development

  • The World Bank will offer India’s public healthcare sector infrastructure two complementary loans totaling $500 million each.

Size of India's real estate industry to touch USD 1 trillion by 2030

  • The size of the country’s real estate industry is expected to reach USD 1 trillion by 2030 from USD 200 billion in 2021, according to a joint report prepared by NAREDCO and EY.
  • The sector is likely to contribute 18-20 per cent to India’s GDP by 2030.

Poultry industry to grow 8-10 pc in FY24

  • The domestic poultry industry is expected to grow 8-10 per cent in 2023-24, driven by volumes and realisations following stable demand and higher penetration of processed chicken as well as value-added products.

India's per capita income doubles since 2014-15

  • As per the National Statistical Office (NSO), the annual per capita (net national income) at current prices is estimated at Rs 1,72,000 in 2022-23, up from Rs 86,647 in 2014-15, suggesting an increase of about 99 per cent. 
  • In real terms (constant prices), the per capita income has increased by about 35 per cent from Rs 72,805 in 2014-15 to Rs 98,118 in 2022-23.

Former Union minister Satyabrata Mookherjee passes away

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the demise of BJP leader and former Union minister Satyabrata Mookherjee. Mookherjee, also a former additional solicitor general of India, passed away at his residence after battling age-related ailments.Popularly known as Jolu Babu, he was an MP & Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee Govt
