Cabinet Approval
- The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given proposal for the following:
- The proposal of the Ministry of Law & Justice for introduction of the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024 in Parliament.
- To release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f. 1.2024 representing an increase of 4% over the existing rate of 46% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate against price rise.
- The combined impact on the exchequer on account of both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be ₹12,868.72 crores per annum.
- This will benefit about 18 lakh Central Government employees and 67.95 lakh pensioners.
- the comprehensive national-level IndiaAI mission with a budget outlay of ₹10,371.92 crores.
- The IndiaAI mission will establish a comprehensive ecosystem catalyzing AI innovation through strategic programs and partnerships across the public and private sectors.
- By democratizing computing access, improving data quality, developing indigenous AI capabilities, attracting top AI talent, enabling industry collaboration, providing startup risk capital, ensuring socially impactful AI projects and bolstering ethical AI, it will drive responsible, inclusive growth of India’s AI ecosystem.
- The Mission will be implemented by ‘IndiaAI’ Independent Business Division (IBD) under Digital India Corporation (DIC).
- the proposal of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade for Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme, 2024 (UNNATI – 2024) for a period of 10 years from the date of notification along with 8 years for committed liabilities at a total cost of ₹10,037 crores.
- The continuation of targeted subsidy of ₹300 per 2 kg cylinder (and proportionately pro-rated for 5 kg cylinder) for up to 12 refills per year to be provided to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) during FY 2024-25.
- As on March 01 2024 there are more than 27 crore PMUY beneficiaries.
- The total expenditure will be ₹12,000 crores for financial year 2024-25.
- For the Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for Raw Jute for 2024-25 season.
- The MSP of Raw Jute (TDN-3 equivalent to earlier TD-5 grade) has been fixed at ₹5,335/- per quintal for 2024-25 season.
- This would ensure a return of 8 percent over the all India weighted average cost of production.
- The announced MSP of raw jute for 2024-25 season is in line with the principle of fixing the MSP at a level of at least 5 times all India weighted average cost of production as announced by the Government in the Budget 2018-19.
IEPFA-NCAER and IMI conduct workshop to enhance financial literacy among women for a Viksit Bharat in Digital Era
- The Investor Education and Protection Fund Authority (IEPFA), in collaboration with the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER) and the International Management Institute (IMI), hosted a workshop on ‘Promoting Women Financial Literacy for Viksit Bharat through an Effective Investor Education and Protection Regime in the Digital Era’ in New Delhi, to mark International Women’s Day.
- This workshop was organised to boost female financial literacy level in India through financial experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to foster discussions on crucial topics such as claiming unclaimed shares, debentures, and other assets, and to revisit India’s investor education and protection framework.
- This approach underscores the critical need for enhancing women’s financial literacy for individual, household, and broader societal well-being.
- The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, followed by a vote of thanks from Ankita Tandon, Associate Professor at IMI. Prof. Tandon noted that the workshop represents a significant stride towards enhancing financial literacy among women in India, in line with the overarching objective of encouraging inclusive economic development and financial prosperity across all societal segments.

- These 35 new District Disability Rehabilitation Centres are spread across Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tripura, Maharashtra, Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.
- This initiative ensures that individuals with disabilities no longer need to travel to distant areas to access essential facilities.

Union Road Transport and Highway minister inaugurated various road projects
- Union Road Transport and Highway minister Nitin Gadkkari had inaugurated road projects which includes
- A substantial sum of ₹2675.31 crore has been sanctioned for the 4-Laning of the Belgaum-Hungund-Raichur Section of National Highway-748A in Bagalkot & Belgavi districts, Karnataka employing the Hybrid Annuity Mode and cumulative length of this project stands at 40 Km.
- A funding allocation of ₹553.12 crore has been authorized for the development and 4- laning of the Krishnagar-Behrampore and Barasat – Barajaguli sections on National Highway – 34, spanning across Nadia, Murshidabad, and North 24 Parganas districts, West Bengal under the NH(O) plan and cumulative length of this project stands at 23 Km.
Union Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas Minister inaugurates & lays foundation stone for 177 development projects in Uttar Pradesh
- Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri, virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 177 development projects in Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh.
- The projects worth ₹10 crore 41 lakh are funded from his MPLAD fund as part of the MP Local Area Development Scheme.
- In 2018, Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, who is also an MP from Rajya Sabha, assumed the responsibility of overseeing development initiatives in the district as part of the Aspirational Districts Programme of NITI Aayog.
Odisha approves seven key projects with ₹80,125 crores investment
- The Odisha government has approved seven key projects with an investment of ₹80,125 crore in different sectors.
- The projects received the state government’s nod at a High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
- These investments are expected to create job opportunities for 24,552 people in various sectors, including steel, green energy, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals.
- These projects are spread over Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Ganjam, and Bhadrak districts.
- Granules Life Sciences Private Limited, a leading producer of paracetamol in India, has proposed to set up its pharmaceutical unit at Tata SEZ, Gopalpur in Ganjam district.
- The company aims to produce 4 billion units of paracetamol, metformin, ibuprofen and other pharma products, for which it will pump in ₹1,100 crores in the Ganjam plant, generating jobs for around 1,500 people.
Schemes
Projects inaugurated under Swadesh Darshan and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) schemes
- Prime Minister, Narendra Modi dedicated 9 tourism infrastructure projects, spread across the country, developed under Swadesh Darshan and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) schemes, worth ₹469 Crore through Video Conferencing from Srinagar.
- Further, 43 other projects for ₹963 Crore were also launched by him, under the Swadesh Darshan and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) schemes of the Ministry of Tourism.
- The project launch events were carried out at all the 52 destinations, simultaneously, by co-ordinated efforts of the Ministry of Tourism, State Government / UT administrations and local authorities.
- The projects launched today included 3 projects under PRASHAD Scheme (Hazratbal- Srinagar, Jogulamba- Telangana, Amarkantak-Madhya Pradesh) worth ₹129.35 Crores.
- Some of the major interventions developed in the projects include Pilgrim facilitation centre, Ghat Development, Façade illumination, Sound & Light show, Parking, Queue complex, Safety & security infrastructure etc.
- Besides, 14 projects across Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Telangana worth ₹320.8 Crores were also launched to further develop hitherto untouched pilgrimage and heritage sites.
- He also laid the foundation stone of the “Experience of Spirituality at Chitrakoot Ghat” project (चित्रकूट घाट पर अध्यात्म का अनुभव) in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.
Business and Economy
Moody's revises India's GPD growth forecast to around 8% for FY24
- Moody’s Ratings, formerly known as Moody’s Investors Service revised its gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecast for India for this financial year (FY24) to around 8 per cent from 6 per cent estimated earlier.
CRISIL raises India's GDP growth forecast to 6.8% from 6.4% for FY25
- Rating agency CRISIL raised its economic growth forecast for India in the next financial year (FY25) to 8 per cent from 6.4 per cent estimated earlier, citing higher growth momentum.
- In its India Outlook report, it, however, said growth will moderate in FY25 from 6 per cent in the current financial year (FY24) as higher interest rates and lower fiscal impulse will temper demand and the net tax impact will normalise.
Financial assistance under ‘Tea Development & Promotion Scheme’ increased
- The financial assistance for the Tea sector under the ‘Tea Development & Promotion Scheme’ has been increased by 82% from ₹290.81 crores to ₹528.97 crore for the next 2 financial years (2024-25 and 2025-26).
- A range of incentives are planned to be provided to small tea growers by mobilizing them into SHGs and FPOs.
- Setting up of 800 SHGs and 330 FPOs has been envisaged in the next 2 financial years with an increased assistance of ₹105.5 Crores compared to 40 SHGs & 8 FPOs previously planned with an assistance of ₹2.7 Crores.
- This will increase coverage of small tea growers from 1000 to more than 30,000 in the next two years.
- The assistance is aimed to increase their productivity and quality, greater value addition and thereby greater price realization.
Agreements and MoUs signed
RBI signed MoU with Bank Indonesia to promote use of local currencies for cross-border transactions
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Bank Indonesia (BI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Mumbai for establishing a framework to promote the use of local currencies the Indian Rupee (INR) and the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) for cross-border transactions.
- The MoU was signed by the Governor of Reserve Bank of India Shaktikanta Das and the Governor of Bank Indonesia Mr. Perry Warjiyo.
- This collaboration marks a key milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation between RBI and BI.
- The MoU on establishing a framework for cooperation in the area of cross-border transactions in local currencies between India and Indonesia, aims to promote the use of INR and IDR bilaterally.
- This will eventually contribute to promoting trade between India and Indonesia as well as deepen financial integration and strengthen the long historical, cultural and economic relations between India and Indonesia.
- The MoU covers all current account transactions, permissible capital account transactions and any other economic and financial transactions as agreed upon by both countries.
- This framework would enable exporters and importers to invoice and pay in their respective domestic currencies, which in turn would enable the development of an INR-IDR foreign exchange market.

NPCI signs an MOU with IISc for joint research on blockchain and AI technology
- National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced the signing of a multi-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, for conducting joint research on Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
- The association is expected to propel further innovation through the establishment of the “NPCI–IISc Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Deep Tech Research & Development”.
- The partnership will focus on scalable blockchain platforms and multi-modal analytics over fintech data.
- Faculty members from five departments at IISc will work with NPCI researchers on practical challenges related to these areas.
- NPCI’s collaboration with the institute is aimed at solving complex technological and engineering problem statements in the areas of scalability, privacy preserving designs, neural networks, Graph AI and Large Language Models (LLM).

- The Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Nagaland on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with YES Bank and Sellmetric Pvt. Limited, at Kohima.
- The primary aim of the tripartite agreement is to collaborate in facilitating digital sales for small businesses, farmers, and entrepreneurs, through the Open Network for Digital Commerce platform, which is a new initiative backed by the Government of India.
- Department of Industries & Commerce, Nagaland is the Nodal department for promoting and advancing the successful implementation of the Open Network for Digital Commerce initiative within the state.

- GAIL (India) has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Shell Energy India (SEI) to explore opportunities for import of ethane and other hydrocarbons.
- The MoU also covers the development of evacuation infrastructure at Shell Energy Terminal at
- This MoU includes cooperation with clear focus for developing ethane import facilities after gap assessment in existing Shell Hazira Terminal facilities and usage of existing pipeline routes and facilities.
- The MoU signed envisages to foster efficiency and swift progress of the shared project by leveraging the combined strengths of all three parties.
- The move coincides with the objective towards assessment of existing operational infrastructure, ensuring its sufficiency, operational flexibility and effective management of upstream and downstream uncertainties.

Ministry of Jal Shakti Signs Agreement with Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore for Establishment of International Centre of Excellence for Dams (ICED)
- Central Water Commission (CWC), Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore for Establishment of an International Centre of Excellence for Dams (ICED) under externally supported Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) Phase II and III.
- This MoA will remain valid for ten years or till the duration of the DRIP Phase-II and III Scheme, whichever is earlier, from the date of signing this MoA.
- ICED will act as a technological arm of the Ministry of Jal Shakti (MoJS) to provide specialized technical support in investigations, modelling, research and innovations, and technical support services for the Indian and overseas dam owners.
- The Centre will work on dam safety to support the Ministry and provide solutions to various emerging challenges faced in dam safety through scientific research.
- It will also offer area specific academic courses (including training programs and workshops) and carry out applied research and technology transfer in dam safety management at local, regional, national and international levels.
- ICED will carry out research in two core areas (i) Advanced construction and rehabilitation materials & Material testing for dams and (ii) Comprehensive (multi-hazard) risk assessment of dams.

NITI Aayog’s ‘NITI for States’ Platform launched by Union Minister of Communication
- Minister of Communications, Railways, and Electronics & Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw launched NITI Aayog’s NITI For States platform at Rang Bhawan auditorium, Akashvani, New Delhi.
- The ‘NITI For States’, is a cross-sectoral knowledge platform designed to become a Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Policy and Good Governance.
- Prior to launching the platform Ashwini Vaishnaw also inaugurate ‘Viksit Bharat Strategy Room’ at NITI Aayog.
- The ‘Viksit Bharat Strategy Room’ will enable rich visualization and engagement with insights, information and knowledge to enable effective in-person decision-making.
- The significant features of the platform include a multi-sectoral live repository of 7,500 Best Practices, 5,000 Policy documents, 900+ datasets, 1,400 data profiles, and 350 NITI publications.
- The knowledge products on the platform span 10 sectors including Agriculture, Education, Energy, Health, Livelihoods and Skilling, Manufacturing, MSME, Tourism, Urban, Water resources & WASH across two cross-cutting themes – Gender and Climate Change.
- The platform is an intuitive and user-friendly interface that allows users to easily navigate; and it is accessible through multiple devices including mobile phones.
- ‘NITI For States’ platform will facilitate the digital transformation of governance by equipping government officials with robust, contextually relevant, and actionable knowledge and insights, thereby enhancing the quality of their decision-making.
- It will also support cutting-edge level functionaries like district collectors and block-level functionaries by giving them access to innovative best practices across various States and UTs.

- International Women’s Day is annually observed on March 08.
- In 1909, the United States observed the first National Women’s Day, followed by a declaration by the Socialist Party of America.
- The push for women’s rights gained momentum, leading to Clara Zetkin’s proposal to establish an annual Women’s Day during the International Conference for Working Women in 1910.
- The proposal received unanimous approval, leading to the first International Women’s Day being celebrated in 1911 across Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland.
- Since then, International Women’s Day has evolved into a global movement for gender equality and women’s rights.

Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) gives nod to 5th generation aircraft project worth ₹15,000 crore
- The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) gave nod to a Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) project for designing and developing Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) to fulfil Indian Air Force’s (IAF’s) requirement for a fifth generation stealth fighter jet.
- CCS has also cleared proposals for acquisition of 34 new Advanced Light Helicopters Dhruv for the Indian Army and Indian Coast Guard.
- Of these, the Army will get 25 of the copters while Coast Guard remaining nine of them, said sources are aware of the development.

Indian Navy commissions INS Jatayu at Minicoy, MH-60R helicopter squadron at Kochi
- The Indian Navy commissioned INS Jatayu, at Minicoy island in the Lakshadweep Islands, its second base in Lakshadweep after INS Dweeprakshak in Kavaratti.
- Later in the day, the Navy commissioned its first MH-60R multi-role helicopter squadron INAS 334 ‘Seahawks’ at Kochi, a major capability boost for its rotary fleet and its anti-submarine warfare capabilities.
- INS Jatayu is the beginning of a phased expansion plan to strengthen India’s surveillance and security posture in the strategically located islands close to the Nine Degree channel and critical sea lanes of communication.
- INS Jatayu will be functioning under the operational control of Naval Officer in Charge (Lakshadweep), Southern Naval Command.
