75 CRPF women 'Daredevils' embark on 1,848 km ride from Delhi to Naxal bastion Chhattisgarh

  • 75 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) women ‘Daredevils’ embarked on 1,848 km bike rally from India Gate here in the national capital to Naxal bastion Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh.
  • The 75 women CRPF bikers will cover nearly five states during their 17-day journey on Royal Enfield motorcycles. Minister of State for Ministry of External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi flagged off the CRPF Women biker rally from India Gate where CRPF’s women personnel showcased rifle drill, as well as a presentation by women pipe band and drummers, were also displayed in the event.

Logistics firm UPS inks pact to train 500 women entrepreneurs in India

  • US-based logistics major UPS has inked a partnership with India SME Forum to train 500 women entrepreneurs in India in export and related business areas.
  • The training will be provided through experts via online and offline modes, said Laura Lane, Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer, UPS.
  • The company will initially train 500 women and later plans to expand the programme later.

Army installs tallest Iconic National Flag in hilly Doda district, J&K

  • In Jammu and Kashmir, Army installed the tallest ‘Iconic National Flag’ in the hilly Doda district.
  • The tricolour which has been installed on a 100 feet-high pole, the highest Tricolour in the Doda district, was unfurled by GOC Delta Force, Maj Gen Ajay Kumar along with Commander 9 sector RR Brig. Samir K Palande, DC Doda Vishesh Paul Mahajan, and SSP Abdul Qayoom.

Election Commission will host the 3rd International Conference on the theme ‘Inclusive Elections and Elections Integrity’ in the virtual format

  • Election Commission of India (ECI) is leading the Cohort on Elections Integrity which was established as a follow-up to the ‘Summit for Democracy’ held in 2021.
  • Over 46 Participants from 25 Countries as well as representatives from the International Foundation for Electoral systems and Civil Society Organisations are expected to participate in the Conference.
  • Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel will also address the Conference.
  •  The participating countries include Angola, Armenia, Australia, Canada, Norway, Philippines, Portugal, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland and Zambia.
  • The first international conference of the Cohort was organized in November last year in New Delhi on the topic ‘Role, Framework and Capacity of Election Management Bodies.
  • The 2nd Conference on the theme ‘Use of Technology and Elections Integrity’ was organised by the Election Commission in January this year.

Aparna becomes first IPS officer to scale seven top peaks

  • Aparna Kumar is the first woman IPS officer to conquer seven summits, racing ahead and ascending one mountain after another.
  • The Seven Summits are the highest mountain summits on each of the world’s seven traditional continents.
  • She also holds the distinction of being the first officer to scale Mount Everest and the first woman to command the ITBP Academy in six decades.
  • Aparna is now an inspector general in the PAC Central Zone and the Sports Secretary of the UP Police Board.
  • Aparna Kumar also served as a mentor on the first ITBP expedition, code named ‘Prakaram,’ which launched on August 7, 2021 from the 1st Battalion in Joshimath and returned on September 7 after successfully raising the tricolour at Mount Balbala top.

  • Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will lead an Indian Parliamentary delegation (IPD) to the 146th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) to be held in Manama, Bahrain.
  • The Indian Parliamentary delegation will participate in the Asia Pacific Group meeting of the IPU.
  • Birla will lead members of the Indian delegation at the opening ceremony to be held in the Plenary Hall under the patronage of the King of Bahrain.

Arunachal developing infrastructure along international borders

  • The Arunachal Pradesh government has initiated several infrastructure development programmes in areas of the northeastern state bordering China, Bhutan and Myanmar, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein.

Godrej Agrovet inks pact with AP govt to set up edible oils refining plant at Rs 100 crore

  • Godrej Agrovet Ltd has proposed to invest Rs 100 crore to set up a refining plant for edible oils in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The company had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government on the sidelines of Andhra Pradesh Global Investors Summit (APGIS) 2023.
  • The company already has 45,000 hectares area of oil palm plantation area in Andhra Pradesh.

Centre sanctions eight floating jetty projects in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu

  • Under its Sagarmala Programme, the Ministry of Ports, shipping, and waterways has provided in-principle approval to four floating jetty projects in Karnataka while also giving in-principle approval to another four floating jetty projects in Tamil Nadu.
  • With these four additional projects in Karnataka, there is a total of 11 floating jetty projects in the state.
  • These projects are located primarily on Gurupura River and Netravati River and shall be used for tourism purposes.
  • The other locations are Thannir Bhavi Church, Bangra Kuluru, Kulur Bridge and Jappina Mogaru NH bridge.
  • Additionally, the ministry has provided in-principle approval to four floating jetty projects in Tamil Nadu.
  • The projects at Agni Thertham and Villoondi Theertham are located in Rameshwaram also at Cuddalore and Kanyakumari.

Compilation of 42 lakh essays on Ahom hero enters Guinness World Records

  • A compilation of over 42 lakh essays on valiant Ahom general Lachit Borphukan has been recognised by Guinness World Records as “largest online photo album of handwritten notes”.
  • Swapnil Dangarikar, the adjudicator of Guinness World Records here, handed over the official letter of recognition to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
  • The entries, made in over 25 languages, were uploaded in a portal in October-November last year, launched as part of 400th birth anniversary celebrations of Borphukan.
  • Borphukan is known for his leadership in the 1671 ‘Battle of Saraighat’ on Brahmaputra that thwarted a drawn-out attempt by the mighty Mughal forces, led by Raja Ramsingh-I, to take back Assam.

Maharashtra will introduce 4th women's policy to give more opportunities to women

  • Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis informed the Legislative Council that the state will introduce the fourth women’s policy to give more opportunities to women by considering the issues of women from all groups.
  • The government will introduce a rehabilitation scheme for those above 18 years old girls from the orphanage.
  • The state will start a Hirkani Room(Kaksha) for breastfeeding mothers at each police station in the state.
  • Residential and Commercial properties will be promoted to open such rooms and 250sq. feet of such a room will not be counted in FSI.
  • The washroom for ladies will be built after every 50km on the new road.

Gujarat Government Implements One Nation, One Challan Initiative

  • The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways introduced the One Nation, One Challan initiative to bring together all relevant agencies, such as traffic police and the Regional Transport Office (RTO), onto a unified platform for seamless challan collection and data transfer.
  • The integrated system entails detecting traffic violations through the CCTV network and acquiring the erring vehicle’s registration number through applications like VAHAN and SARATHI.

Two-day ‘Millet Fair cum Exhibition’ organised in Madurai, Tamil Nadu

  • The Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India organized a two-day ‘Millet Fair cum Exhibition’ in Madurai, Tamil Nadu from 6-7 March, 2023.
  • The event was organised as part of the Millet Mahotsav series, in collaboration with the Department of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the Department of Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business, Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • Tamil Nadu is known for the production of different varieties of millets including Pearl Millet (Bajra), Sorghum (Jowar), Finger Millet (Ragi), Small Millet (Foxtail Millet, Barnyard Millet, Kodo Millet, Proso Millet) and Little Millet.
  • The district of Madurai is known for the production of Pearl Millet (Bajra), Sorghum (Jowar), Finger Millet (Ragi) and Small Millet.
  • In the year 2019-20 the district produced, 3,548 tonnes of Pearl Millet (Bajra), 22,405 tonnes of Sorghum (Jowar), 69 tonnes of Finger Millet (Ragi) and 130 tonnes of Small Millets.

Paytm Payments Bank goes live with UPI LITE for small-value transactions

  • Paytm Payments Bank Limited (PPBL) has gone live with UPI LITE, a feature enabled by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for multiple small-value UPI transactions, thus empowering its users with lightning fast UPI payments.
  • For payments of up to Rs 200, UPI Lite eliminates the need of UPI PIN.
  • UPI LITE is exclusively available on Paytm app.
  • A maximum of Rs 2,000 can be added twice in a day to UPI LITE, making the cumulative daily usage up to Rs 4,000.

Jio arm buys Mimosa Networks for $60 million to boost wireless offerings

  • Jio Platforms’ wholly-owned subsidiary, Radisys Corporation, has acquired Mimosa Networks from NYSE-listed Airspan Networks Holdings for $60 million on a debt-free, cash-free basis.
  • Mimosa offers a range of wireless products based on WiFi5 and the newer WiFi6 technologies and other accessories such as twist on antennas and Power Over Ethernet injectors.
  • They are useful in the rollout of fifth-generation wireless networks.
  • Jio has been a major customer of Mimosa over the years, while its step-down subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm USA Inc, is a shareholder of Airspan and has a seat on its board.

Actor-director Satish Kaushik dies at 66

  • Actor-filmmaker Satish Kaushik passed away at 66.
  • An alumnus of the National School of Drama and the Film and Television Institute of India, Kaushik was best known for his roles in films such as ”Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron”, ”Mr India”, ”Deewana Mastana”, and ”Udta Punjab”.
  • Known for his comic timing, Kaushik was also a director.
  • His most popular films as a filmmaker are Salman Khan starrer ”Tere Naam” and ”Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai”, starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Tusshar Kapoor.
