Gadkari to visit Jamshedpur to inaugurate road projects

  • Union minister Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit the steel city of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand and virtually inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for 10 road projects worth a total of Rs 3,800 crore.
  • Gadkari will inaugurate the four-lane 44-km-long Jamshedpur-Mahulia section of the Ranchi-Mahulia road built at a cost of Rs 465 crore.
  • He will lay the foundation stone for Rs 1,876-crore double-decker elevated corridor in Jamshedpur.

PM Modi inaugurates International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area Office

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area Office and Innovation Centre.
  • Modi also unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision Document and launched the 6G R&D Test Bed.
  • ITU is the United Nations’ specialized agency for information and communication technologies (ICTs).
  • Headquartered in Geneva, it has a network of field offices, regional offices and area offices.
  • India signed a Host Country Agreement in March 2022 with ITU for establishment of an area office.
  • The area office, fully funded by India, is located on the second floor of the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT) building at Mehrauli in New Delhi.
  • It will serve India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Afghanistan and Iran, enhancing coordination among nations and fostering mutually beneficial economic cooperation in the region.

UIDAI suspends 1.2% of total Aadhaar operators for attempting fraud

  • The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is estimated to have 99,000-1 lakh operators who enrol individuals as well as provide other Aadhaar services like name correction, address change etc.
  • The Unique Identification Authority of India has suspended 1.2 per cent of Aadhar operators in the last year for attempting fraudulent activities.

Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav chairs 1st General Body Meeting of NCSCM in New Delhi

  • Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav chaired the 1st General Body Meeting of National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management, (NCSCM) in New Delhi.
  • Mr Yadav said that government has accorded huge importance to Blue Economy with a focus on sustainable and climate-resilient coastal infrastructure and livelihoods of coastal communities.
  • NCSCM was established in February 2011, as a research institution to support the protection, conservation, restoration, management, and policy advice on coasts.
  • The vision of NCSCM is to promote sustainable coasts through increased partnerships, conservation practices, scientific research, and knowledge management for the benefit and well-being of current and future generations.

3-days International Conference on 'Natural farming for Revitalizing Environment & Resilient Agriculture' concludes in Imphal

  • The three days International Conference on ‘Natural farming for Revitalizing Environment & Resilient Agriculture’ concluded at Central Agricultural University (CAU) in Imphal.
  • During the three days long International Conference, altogether eight technical sessions were organised on different topics.
  • Scientists from India and fourteen foreign countries participated in the conference.

Cabinet approves listing of IREDA on Stock Exchanges

  • Union Government on approved for listing of the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) on the Stock Exchanges.
  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) decided to approve an Initial Public Offer (IPO) by part sale of Government’s stake in the CPSE to raise funds through issue of fresh equity shares.
  • Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) will drive the listing process.
  • IREDA is currently a wholly owned Government of India, Mini-ratna (Category-I) CPSE incorporated in 1987 and is engaged in financing of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency projects in India.
  • It is registered as a NBFC with the Reserve Bank of India.

Asia’s largest Liquid Mirror Telescope, now in India

  • Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh inaugurated Asia’s largest 4-metre International Liquid Mirror Telescope at Devasthal in Uttarakhand.
  • The telescope is located at an altitude of 2450 metre at the Devasthal Observatory campus of ARIES, an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India in Nainital district, Uttarakhand.

Haryana govt introduces in assembly Control of Organised Crime Bill, 2023

  • The Haryana government introduced in the assembly a bill that seeks to prevent and control criminal activity by organised syndicates or gangs.
  • The Haryana Control of Organised Crime Bill, 2023, tabled by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kanwar Pal, will be taken up for discussion and passing.
  • The bill was re-introduced after the government made certain changes.

Indian Railways completes 100% electrification of Broad Gauge network in Odisha

  • The Indian Railways has completed 100 percent electrification of Broad Gauge network in Odisha.
  • A total of 2,822 kilometre route has been electrified.
  • Ministry of Railways said, the electrification will reduce line haul cost by 2.5 times.
  • The Indian Railways has set the target of achieving Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2030.

RBI to set up new Data Centre & Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar

  • Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das laid the foundation stone for establishment of a “Greenfield Data Centre’ and ‘Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute’ in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
  • The new Data Centre and the Enterprise Computing & Cybersecurity Training Institute spread over an area of 18.55 acres, when commissioned, will cater to the emerging requirements of the RBI and the financial sector.

Amazon Pay ties up with NPCI’s Bharat BillPay for loan repayments

  • Amazon Pay has collaborated with Bharat BillPay, the biller platform of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), to strengthen its loan repayment facility.
  • Over 200 lenders, including Bajaj Finance, Cholamandalam Investment & Finance, HDB Financial Services, Home Credit, and IIFL Finance, have enrolled in the facility.

India's improved 1.7% spend on logistics to set stage for $5 trn economy

  • India will spend a whopping 1.7 per cent of its GDP on transport infrastructure this year — around twice the level in America and most European countries — a feat that has been noticed even by The Economist which called it ‘eye-watering’ upgrade that will set stage to achieve a USD 5 trillion economy.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has hiked capital outlay on infrastructure to USD 122 billion for the fiscal year starting April as it looks to provide a strong impetus to job creation and boost economic activity amid a global slowdown.
  • According to official data, the Modi government has allocated Rs 2.4 lakh crore for railways capital expenditure, nine times higher than the amount in the financial year 2013-14.
  • Allocation for roads has jumped 36 per cent to Rs 2.7 lakh crore for 2023-24.
  • In the financial year starting in April, road and rail will account for nearly 11 per cent of central government capital spending, up from 2.75 per cent in 2014-15.

  • China’s Li Xue won the gold while Germany’s Doreen Vennekamp settled for silver in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event and China’s Qian Wei completed the podium with a bronze medal finish.
