92 Eco-Sensitive Zones, 2 Ecologically Sensitive Areas notified in 13 states

  • Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey informed that 92 Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZ) and 2 Ecologically Sensitive Areas (ESA) have been notified in 13 states of the Indian Himalayan region.
  • As part of the wildlife conservation strategy, in the year 2002, it was decided that an area around each protected area requires to be notified as Eco-Sensitive Zone for creating a buffer as further protection around Protected Areas (PAs).

Govt allows import of urea through India Potash till March 2024

  • The centre has allowed the import of urea through India Potash Limited for another year until March 2024, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade.
  • Earlier, it was supposed to be allowed till March 2023.
  • Besides India Potash Limited, the import of fertilizer is already allowed through Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers, and National Fertilizers under the current policy.

Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launches DigiClaim for disbursal of claims by farmers through National Crop Insurance Portal

  • Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched DigiClaim, under the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, for claim disbursal through National Crop Insurance Portal.
  • With the launch of a DigiClaim Module, the insurance claims of over one thousand 260 crore rupees have been disbursed to insured farmers of six states.
  • The states are Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Haryana.
  • Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare – Narendra Singh Tomar,Cabinet Minister (Morena,UP) – Shobha Karandlaje,Minister of State (Udupi Chikmagalur,Karnataka), Kailash Choudhary, Minister of State (Barmer,Rajasthan)

86 % of funds utilised, 69 % of projects completed under Smart City Mission

  • The Centre informed that 86 per cent of funds have been utilised and 69 per cent of projects completed under Smart City Mission.
  • under this Mission, work orders for 7,799 projects had been issued, of which 5,399 projects have been completed until 3rd March 2023.
  • The Minister said, under Smart City Mission, the Centre and State have jointly released 69,685 crore rupees, of which 59,791 crore rupees have been utilised.
  • The Minister said, the implementation period of the Smart City Mission had been extended upto June 2023, and all smart cities are expected to complete their projects within the stipulated time.
  • The Centre launched Smart City Mission on 25 June 2015.
  • One hundred smart cities were selected through four rounds of competition from January 2016 to June 2016.

Targets set by Government under PMUY-2.0 already achieved

  • The government has informed that targets set under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)-2.0 have already been achieved.
  • Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said the second phase of the scheme was launched in August 2021, and one crore 60 lakh LPG connections have been provided to the beneficiaries under it.
  • He added that eight crore LPG connections were provided to the beneficiaries until September 2019 during the scheme’s first phase.

Odisha makes provision of Rs 250 crores to address malnutrition issues

  • In a bid to address malnutrition among adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers and children under six years of age in the state, Odisha Government has made a provision of Rs 250 crore under Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana (MSPY) for 2023-24, said State Women and Child Development Minister Basanti Hembram.
  • Keeping it further Odisha Government will invest Rs 3000 crore during the period from 2023-24 to 2027-28 under the scheme Mukhyamantri Sampoorna Pushti Yojana.
  • Schemes like Advika and Adolescent Empowerment with a proposed outlay of Rs 5 crore during 2023-24 have been introduced to end child marriage and set adolescents on the path of empowerment.
  • The Women and Child Development Department is implementing the scheme like Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) with a proposed outlay of Rs 1,043 crore during 2023-24 to bridge the gap between Recommended Dietary Allowance(RDA) and Average Daily Intake (ADI) and the scheme POSHAN-2.0 to eradicate malnutrition and hunger in children upto six years, adolescent girls from 14 to 18 years, pregnant women and lactating mother.

IOC to invest Rs 61,077 crores in petchem complex at Paradip, Odisha

  • India’s top oil company IOC will invest Rs 61,077 crore in building a petrochemical complex at Paradip in Odisha – its largest ever investment at a single location – as it doubles down on its transition plan.

Karnataka government started Rs 2,800 crores irrigation projects in Krishna basin

  • With the aim to facilitate farmers of the Krishna basin, the Karnataka government has started irrigation projects worth Rs 2,800 crores.
  • Bommai said the Bhagyalakshmi scheme has benefitted the minorities.
  • Bommai said Rs 30,000 crore has been earmarked for SCSP/ TSP act.
  • 100 Ambedkar and 50 Kanakadasa Hostels are under construction. Besides, five mega hostels are being built.
  • Additional grants are reserved to provide hostel facilities to over one lakh students, added the Chief Minister.

Prime Minister's Mega Integrated Textile region & apparel park in Virudhunagar Tamil Nadu

  • Union Minister for Commerce and Textiles Piyush Goyal launched the Prime Minister’s Mega Integrated Textile region and apparel park in Virudhunagar Tamil Nadu via video conference from Chennai.
  • The Centre is in the process of setting up seven integrated textile parks in the Country.
  • A first of its kind, the textile park is all set up with a higher aim to bring about an opportunity for the growth in South Tamil Nadu.
  • The park will be set up at 1056 acres providing one lakh direct employment and 2 lakh indirect employment.

Himachal signs MoU with French Agency to improve drinking water, sanitation

  • To improve drinking water and sanitation services in five towns of Himachal Pradesh, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of Rs 817.12 crore project has been signed by the State Government with the French Development Agency Agence Francaise de Developpment (AFD).
  • Under the project, Rs 612 crore would be provided by AFD, whereas the State Government would provide Rs. 204.85 crore.
