President Droupadi Murmu unveils statue of Dr. BR Ambedkar in Supreme Court
- President of India Droupadi Murmu unveiled a statue of BR Ambedkar at the Supreme Court of India on the occasion of Constitution Day in the presence of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal and other dignitaries.
- The majestic 7-foot-tall statue, positioned on the front lawn and garden of the apex court.
Ayurveda Gyan Naipunya Initiative
- The Central Council for Research in Ayurveda Sciences (CCRAS) under the Ministry of Ayush launched the Ayurveda Gyan Naipunya Initiative (AGNI) for physicians practicing in the field of Ayurveda in New Delhi.
- The initiative aims to promote research for mainstreaming pragmatic Ayurveda practices through scientific validation and evidence-based appraisal.
- This initiative will provide a platform for Ayurveda practitioners to report their innovative practices and experiences in various disease conditions.

4th Consultative Workshop on Women’s Economic Empowerment through Promotion of Producer Collectives
- The Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana- National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM), Ministry of Rural Development organised the fourth consultative workshop, in collaboration with Tamil Nadu state mission of DAY-NRLM on the theme of “Women’s Economic Empowerment through Promotion of Producer Collectives”.
- Participants from seven states- Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Odisha, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka along with some eminent stakeholders from government, private and social sector organizations joined the workshop.
- The regional workshop was further divided into 4 panel discussions on the below-mentioned topics:
- Scaling up the tapestry of women-owned enterprises.
- Sectoral interventions and role of women-owned enterprises.
- Scope for promoting Federations of women-led enterprises.

International News
India’s agri imports from South Australia grew 200% under zero-tariff regime
- India’s imports of almonds, beans, oranges, wines, lentils, pulses, several processed agro foods, sheep meat from the state of South Australia (SA) have risen significantly since the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) came into effect in 2022.
- South Australia has been witnessing growing import demand for lentils, pulses and certain other food items following the zero-tariff rate India introduced last year, resulting in food, wine and agribusiness sector exports to India growing more than 200% in the 12 months until September 2023.
- India is South Australia’s fifth-largest export market, with exports worth AUD 1.1 billion of goods over the last 12 months–a figure that has risen by 11% in the previous year.

Schemes
Uttar Pradesh ‘Hot Cooked Meal Scheme’
- Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the ‘Hot Cooked Meal Scheme’ for children aged 3 to 6 years at a Composite School in Ayodhya, noting that “well-nourished and healthy children will become the basis of a strong India”.
- The initiative to provide hot meals with diverse menus on different days, following the mid-day meal model, that will progress with the mutual coordination among various departments.
- These centres provide six types of services.
- For the first time in the state, the auspicious work of providing hot cooked meals to 80 lakh children aged 3 to 6 years.
- He also laid the foundation stones of 3,401 Anganwadi centres in 35 districts at a cost of Rs 403 crore.
- Additionally, he inaugurated a transit hostel for police personnel at Ayodhya Reserve Police Lines.

Banking and Finance
Monetary Penalty by RBI
- The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a monetary penalty of Rs 4.34 crore on Bank of Baroda, Rs 5 crore on Citibank, and Rs 1 crore on Indian Overseas Bank for violating norms.
- Bank of Baroda failed to ensure accuracy and integrity of data on large exposures submitted to RBI with respect to some accounts.
- The Citibank failed to credit the eligible amount to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund within the prescribed time period, paid remuneration in the form of commission to its certain staff members, and outsourced the monitoring and disposal/closure (decision-making function) of AML (Anti-Money Laundering) alerts to a group company.
- Indian Overseas Bank was found violating norms while extending term loans to two corporate entities without undertaking due diligence on the viability and bankability of the projects to ensure that revenue streams from the projects were sufficient to take care of the debt servicing obligations, and it was sanctioned in lieu of, or to substitute, budgetary resources envisaged for certain projects.
RBI supersedes Mumbai-based Abhyudaya Co-op Bank’s Board
- The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) superseded the Board of Directors of Mumbai-based Abhyudaya Cooperative Bank Ltd, for a year.
- This central bank’s action comes as it observed certain material concerns emanating from poor governance standards in the bank.
- No business restrictions have been placed by RBI and the bank shall continue to carry on its normal banking activities as is hitherto, under the guidance of the Administrator.
- RBI has appointed Satya Prakash Pathak, former Chief General Manager of State Bank of India, as “Administrator” to manage the affairs of the bank during this period.
- It also appointed a “Committee of Advisors” to assist the Administrator to discharge his duties.

ADB will Help Provide Clean and Reliable Water Access in Kerala
- The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved a $170 million loan to support the modernization of water supply services in the city of Kochi in Kerala, helping improve the quality of urban life and build climate resilience.
- The project will rehabilitate and upgrade five existing water treatment plants that have a cumulative production capacity of 325 million liters per day (MLD), as well as build a new plant with 190 MLD capacity.
- To reduce loss of treated water during distribution, around 700 kilometers of pipes will be replaced and a real-time monitoring system will be introduced.
- About 146,000 water meters will be replaced with high-quality and reliable meters.

S&P Global India’s GDP forecast
- S&P Global Ratings had revised the India’s GDP growth for fiscal 2024 to 4%, from 6% and also lowered the GDP growth for fiscal 2025 to 6.4%, from 6.9%.
Mobile phone production in India
- Mobile phone production was ₹18,900 crores in 2014-15 which reached ₹3,50,000 crores in 2022-23.
- Over 99% of all mobiles sold in India are now Made In India while the country was 78% import-dependent in the year 2014-15.
Agreements and MoUs signed
Department of Social Justice and Empowerment signed MoU with ISKCON under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan
- The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in New Delhi.
- The initiative aims to synergize efforts in curbing drug usage, especially among the youth which aligns with Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a substance-free India.
- Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was launched on 15th August 2020 by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
- It is presently being implemented in 372 identified most vulnerable districts.
- The aim of the Abhiyaan is to create awareness about the ill effects of substance abuse among the youth, with a special focus on higher education institutes, university campuses and schools.
Acquisitions and Mergers
Berkshire Hathaway sold remaining stake in Paytm
- Berkshire Hathaway International Holdings, a unit of Warren Buffet’s Berkshire Hathaway, sold its remaining 46% stake in One 97 Communications (Paytm).
- It sold 15.62 million shares at ₹877.3 apiece for ₹1,371 crore.

FICCI President-Elect for 2023-24
- FICCI, the country’s oldest and largest industry body, has a President-Elect in Anish Shah.
- He is currently the Senior Vice-President of FICCI and the Group CEO of Mahindra Group and the Managing Director of M&M, the parent company of the Group.
- He would succeed Subhrakant Panda as President of the apex Chamber at the conclusion of the 96th Annual General Meeting to be held on December 2023 in New Delhi.
- Prior to Mahindra Group, Shah was President and CEO of GE Capital India from 2009-14.

- The current tenure of Ghosh as the MD & CEO of the Bank would be expiring on July 09, 2024, and in terms of the regulatory provisions, application for re-appointment of MD & CEO shall be submitted to RBI at least six months before the expiry of the current term.

- Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports launched the First-ever Khelo India Para Games 2023 logo and mascot Ujjwala in New Delhi.
- ‘Ujjwala’- a sparrow, was unveiled as the official mascot of Khelo India – Para Games 2023.
- The little sparrow is a symbol of the pride of Delhi and its uniqueness portrays determination and empathy.
- Ujjwala, as the mascot of Khelo India – Para Games 2023, is a reminder that strength comes in many forms and the human spirit is unbreakable.
- Among the attendees, former Indian Women’s Hockey Team Captain Rani Rampal, Indian freestyle wrestler and Olympian bronze medallist, Yogeshwar Dutt, Indian professional wrestler Sarita Mor along with Indian professional boxer Akhil Kumar were present.

World 6 Red Women Championships title
- Vidya Pillai secured Gold in the World 6 Red Women Snooker Championships by defeating Anupama Ramachandran held in Doha, Qatar.
- This is the first individual world snooker title by an Indian woman.
- The Six-red World Championship is a six-red snooker tournament, played with the six colour balls and six reds.
- Snooker is a cue sport played on a rectangular billiards table covered with a green cloth called baize, with six pockets, one at each corner and one in the middle of each long side.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2023
- International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is annually observed on November 25.
- On December 20, 1993, the General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women, paving the path towards eradicating violence against women and girls worldwide.
- Further, on February 07, 2000, November 25 was officially designated as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
- The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women will mark the launch of the UNiTE campaign (Nov 25- Dec 10) — an initiative of 16 days of activism concluding on the day that commemorates the International Human Rights Day (10 December).

National Milk Day 2023
- National Milk Day is annually observed on November 26 in India.
- In 2014, National Dairy Development Board’s (NDDB), Indian Dairy Association (IDA) and 22 state-level milk federations decided to dedicate November 26 to Dr Verghese Kurien, the Father of India’s White Revolution (1970).
- Hence, together they initiated the observance of National Milk Day.
- 2021-22 the total milk production is 1 million tonnes and per capita availability of milk is 444g/day.
- India is first among all countries in both production and consumption of milk.
- Verghese Kurien known as the “Father of the White Revolution” in India was born on November 26 1921.
- He won World Food Prize (1989), Order of Agricultural Merit (1997), Padma Vibhushan (1999), Padma Bhushan (1966), Padma Shri (1965) & Ramon Magsaysay Award (1964).
Constitution Day 2023
- Constitution Day is annually observed on November 26 in India.
- It commemorates the day the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Constitution, which officially came into effect on January 26, 1950.
- Recognising the significance of this day, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, on November 19, 2015, declared the 26th of November as Constitution Day to foster an understanding of constitutional values among citizens.
- Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar is known as the father of Indian constitution.
- He won Bharat Ratna in 1990.

- World Sustainable Transport Day is annually observed on November 26.
- The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), on May 16, 2023, declared that World Sustainable Transport Day would be celebrated on November 26, each year.
- Sustainable Transport Day is an initiative that celebrates modes of transport which help in energy conservation and protection of the planet and its resources.
- The seeds of the idea were planted during the first United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference in 2016.

9th National Level Pollution Response Exercise
- The 9th National Level Pollution Response Exercise (NATPOLREX-IX) was conducted by the Indian Coast Guard off Vadinar, Gujarat.
- The NATPOLREX-IX accomplished its objective of testing the level of preparedness and coordination between various resource agencies to respond to a marine oil spill invoking provisions of the National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan or NOSDCP.
- The ICG deployed surface as well as air platforms including Pollution Response Vessels (PRVs), Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter Mk-III, and Dornier Aircraft configured for marine pollution response.
- Indian Coast Guard assumed responsibilities for protecting the marine environment in the maritime zones of India on March 07 1986, when these responsibilities were transferred from the Ministry of Shipping.
- Subsequently, the Coast Guard prepared the NOSDCP for combating oil spill disaster at sea, which was approved by the Committee of Secretaries in 1993.
- Apart from drawing up the NOSDCP, the Coast Guard has established four Pollution Response Centers at Mumbai, Chennai, Port Blair and Vadinar.
