SSC CGL consists of four tiers of examination. Tier 1 & Tier 2 are online based objective type exams. Tier 3 is descriptive type exam.
Tier 3 is a descriptive paper which consists of essay writing, letter writing and precis writing for a total of 100 marks. A candidate in order to qualify the exam has to secure a minimum score of 33 marks.

Mode of Examination: Pen and Paper mode
Scheme of Examination: Descriptive Paper in English/Hindi.(writing of Essay/Precis/Letter /Application Writing etc)
Marks: 100
Time : 60 minutes( For VH and candidates suffering from Cerebral Palsy: 80 Minutes)
NOTE: Candidates should not exceed the limit as per the number of words prescribed in the question paper.
For essay/paragraph maximum 250 words
For Letter writing maximum 150 words
