What is TNTET?

TNTET, also known as the Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test, is held by the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) once a year. The TNTET Exam is attended by candidates who wish to apply for primary- and upper-primary-level teacher posts in government schools in Tamil Nadu. The TNTET Exam comprises of two papers. TNTET Paper 1 is for candidates who want to teach from classes 1 to 5 and TNTET Paper 2 is for candidates who want to teach from classes 6 to 8. Both the TNTET papers have different exam patterns and eligibility criteria, and the syllabus also varies.

TNTET Exam: Educational Qualification

For TNTET Paper 1, candidates must have educational eligibility of D.Ed, which stands for Diploma in Elementary Education. Candidates must also be a graduate.

For TNTET Paper 2, candidates must have educational eligibility of B.Ed, which stands for Bachelor’s in Education. Candidates must also be a graduate, having passed with a minimum of 50%.

TNTET Exam 2022: Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the TNTET Exam 2022, it is better to be aware of the TNTET Exam eligibility criteria in advance. Candidates who wish to take the TNTET Exam must have the following:

  • They must be a citizen of India or be residing in India.
  • They must be more than 18 years of age.

The detailed eligibility criteria for candidates taking TNTET Paper 1 are:

  • Candidates must have passed a higher secondary exam with 50 per cent and should have passed or appearing for the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed) (or)
  • Candidates must have passed a senior secondary exam with 45 per cent and should have passed or appearing for the final year of the two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.Ed) (or)
  • Candidates should have passed higher secondary exam with at least 50 per cent and should have passed or appearing in the final year of the four-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.EI.Ed) (or)
  • Candidates must have passed higher secondary with at least 50 per cent marks and should have completed or studying in the final year of the four-year Diploma in Education or Special Education.

Further, the detailed eligibility criteria for candidates taking TNTET Paper 2 are:

  • Candidates should have graduated with at least 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s in Education (B.Ed) (or)
  • Candidates should have graduated with at least 45 per cent marks and passed or appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s in Education (B.Ed) (or)
  • Candidates should have graduated with at least 50 per cent marks and passed or appearing for the final year of Bachelor’s in Special Education. 

How to Apply for TNTET Exam Online?

The online application form to apply for the TNTET Exam 2022 was released on the official Teachers Recruitment Board’s website on 14 March 2022. The last date for submitting the application for the TNTET Exam 2022 was 13 April 2022. Candidates should follow these steps to apply for the TNET Exam 2022:

  • Visit the official website of TRB, i.e. www.trb.tn.nic.in. 
  • Select the online application form link.  
  • Register for the TNTET Exam 2022. 
  • Candidates must fill in the TNTET Exam application form. 
  • Candidates must attach the scanned copy of a passport-size photo and their signature. Care should be taken to follow the size specifications as mentioned in the official TNTET Exam 2022 notification.
  • Pay for the application fee.  
  • Get the confirmation and save the confirmation page. 

TNTET Exam 2022 Application Fees

The application fee for the TNTET Exam 2022 must be paid online at the time of filling in the application. The application fee is:

  • Candidates applying under the general category must pay ₹ 500 as the application fee to take TNTET Exam.
  • Candidates applying under the SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories must pay ₹ 250 as the application fee to attend the TNTET Exam.

If a candidate wishes to apply for both papers of the TNTET Exam, then they must fill in the application forms separately and pay for both the papers individually.

TNTET 2022 Exam Pattern

Before starting to prepare for TNTET, students must be aware of the exam pattern as it will enable them to study smarter and better for the upcoming TNTET Exam 2022. 

TNTET 2022 Paper 1 Exam Pattern: The TNTET Paper 1 Exam is conducted for 3 hours. There are 150 questions in total, with every question carrying 1 mark each. Every correct answer receives 1 mark and there is no negative mark for wrong answers. There are five subjects that a candidate will be tested on.

TNTET 2022 Paper 2 Exam Pattern

The TNTET Paper 2 exam for the TNTET Exam 2022 lasts for 3 hours. There are 150 questions in total, with every question carrying one mark each. Every correct answer carries one mark, while there is no negative marking for incorrect answers. 

All the candidates will be tested on three subjects, namely Language I, Language II and Child Development and Pedagogy. The fourth subject depends on the preference of the candidate. It may include mathematics and science for maths and science teachers, social science for social science teachers and either of the two for other subject teachers.

The TNTET Paper 2 for classes 6-8 has the following exam structure:

TNTET Exam 2022: Exam Syllabus

TNTET Exam 2022: Expected Cut-Off

The expected cut-off marks for the TNTET Exam 2022 are:

  • General category candidates must score 90 marks out of 150, scoring 60 per cent on the paper. 
  • Other category candidates must score 82 marks out of 150, scoring 55 per cent on the paper. 

TNTET Exam 2022 Validity

On successfully clearing TNTET Exam, candidates are awarded an eligibility certificate from TRB. These certificates have a validity of a lifetime, but it does not mean that a candidate has the right to be given a job as a teacher. They will still need to take a separate requirement exam. This TNTET certificate simply means that the candidate is qualified to be a teacher.

  • Where will the TNTET Exam 2022 be held?

    The TNTET Exam 2022 will be held at any one of the above-mentioned exam centres in Tamil Nadu. The details of the exact exam centre will be mentioned on the admit card and the other exam centres can be found on the official TNTET Exam 2022 notification.

  • How do I apply for TNTET 2022?

    Candidates can visit the official Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) website and register for the TNTET Exam 2022. Candidates have to finish applying within 13 April 2022, which is the last date for submitting TNTET Exam 2022 application.
