SSC GD Salary structure, Pay scale , Promotion and Benefits

SSC GD (Staff Selection Commission General Duty) exam is conducted annually and falls under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Due to this, the SSC GD Constable’s salary is relatively high. The basic pay of the qualified personnel ranges from ₹21,700 to 69,100. Candidates applying for the posts must be well-informed about additional benefits, allowances, and promotions besides basic pay.

  1. Constable GD in Border Security Force – BSF
  2. Constable GD in Central Industrial Security Force – CISF
  3. Constable GD in Indo Tibetan Border Police Force – ITBP
  4. Constable GD in Sashastra Seema Bal – SSB
  5. Constable GD in Central Reserve Police Force – CRPF
  6. Rifleman GD in Assam Rifles – AR
  7. Constable GD in Secretariat Security Force – SSF
  8. Constable GD in National Investigation Agency – NIA

The SSC GD salary is as per the provisions of the 7th pay commission. SSC GD Constable Perks

The candidates recruited for the post of General Duty Constable in various departments are eligible to enjoy multiple allowances and benefits. These allowances are paid over and above the basic salary. These allowances aim to support General Duty Constables meet the rising cost of living. 

These allowances include: 

  1. Transportation Allowance: Since most people use different modes of transportation, this allowance covers their travel expenses.
  2. Medical Facilities: The Government of India has set an amount for SSC GD Constables and armed forces. It is known as Fixed Medical Advance (FMA). A sum of 500 is granted to meet the day-to-day medical expenses. 
  3. Pension Schemes: As a government employee, you are a member of the National Pension Scheme. A fixed sum gets deducted from the salary monthly and is invested in the equity market. Once retired, you will receive a pension from the same fund.
  4. Annual Paid Leaves: An SSC GD Constable gets 21 annual paid leaves. It means that besides their usual and gazetted leaves, they can take up to 21 leaves a year. 
  5. Security Allowances – These are the allowances given to the GD when engaged in fieldwork and are given a maximum of 15% of Basic pay decided by the 7th CPC. 
  6. Field Allowances: Under this type of allowance, a General Duty Constable will get reimbursed for all the expenses incurred during field work. A number of expenses are covered under field allowances. 
  7. Training Allowances: As per the 7th CPC, the constable salary in the training period is equal to 12% of your basic pay. It is applicable only when training is undertaken at one of the training establishments. 

SSC GD Promotion

The promotion of a General Duty Constable depends on their performance and the duration of their service. Candidates have to appear in various departmental exams to get promoted. After promotion, a General Duty Constable is promoted to the post of Senior Head Constable and takes charge of the police station. The salary of an SSC GD also increases with promotions to various posts.
