What Are the Mandatory Physical Standards for SSC CGL?

Are Physical Examinations Mandatory for SSC CGL?

Physical examinations are mandatory for some of the posts of the SSC CGL Examination. You will find the guidelines for physical examination for female and male candidates in the official SSC CGL Exam notification. 

Also, the physical assessments (along with the vision test) for the candidates will be carried out by the respective Indenting Departments and only the candidates who can fulfil the specific physical requirements will be qualified to be recruited for the positions.

Physical Requirements for Different SSC CGL Posts

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission issues the official notification for the TNPSC Group 2/2A Exam for the vacancies according to the tentative annual TNPSC Calendar. The official TNPSC Group 2/2A notification will be available on the official TNPSC website. TNPSC also publishes a short notice about the TNPSC Group 2/2A vacancies in Tamil and English newspapers without fail. 

Physical Tests and Standards Compulsory for Sub-inspector and Inspector Positions

Candidates applying for the position of Inspector (Preventive Officer/Examiner/Central Excise Officer), Inspector and Sub-inspector in the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) have to fulfil the following physical tests and standards.

  • Physical Standards
Male Candidates

Height: 157.5 cm 

Chest: 81 cm (when fully expanded with at least an expansion of 5 cm)

(Height can be relaxed by 5 cm for Garwalis, Gorkhas, Assamese candidates and candidates from Scheduled Tribes)

Female Candidates

Height: 152 cm 

Weight: 48 kg

(Weight and height can be relaxed by 2 kg and 2.5 cm, respectively, for Garwalis, Gorkhas, Assamese candidates and candidates from Scheduled Tribes)

  • Physical Tests
Male Candidates

Walking: 1,600 m in 15 minutes 

Cycling: 8 km in 30 minutes

Female Candidates

Walking: 1 km in 20 minutes

Cycling: 3 km in 25 minutes

Physical Tests and Standards Compulsory for Sub-Inspector in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)

Candidates applying for the position of Sub-inspector in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have to meet the physical tests/standards mentioned below:

Height

Male Candidates: 165 cm

Female candidates: 150 cm

(Height can be relaxed by 5 cm for candidates from tribals and hillsmen)

Chest The chest should be 76 cm with full expansion for the male candidates.
No such requirements are present for female candidates.
Vision

Eyesight (without or with glasses) for both male and female candidates:

  • Distant Vision: 6/9 in one and 6/6 in the other eye
  • Near Vision: 0.8 in one eye and 0.6 in the other eye

Physical Tests and Standards Compulsory for Sub-Inspector in the National Investigation Agency (NIA)

Candidates applying for the position of Sub-inspector in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) have to give/meet the physical tests and standards mentioned below:

Height

Male Candidates: 170 cm

Female candidates: 150 cm

(Height can be relaxed by 5 cm for candidates from tribals and hillsmen)

ChestThe chest should be 76 cm with full expansion for the male candidates.
No such requirements are present for female candidates.
Vision

Eyesight (without or with glasses) for both male and female candidates:

  • Distant Vision: 6/9 in one and 6/6 in the other eye
  • Near Vision: 0.8 in one eye and 0.6 in the other eye

SSC CGL Physical Efficiency Tests, Medical & Physical Standards for Posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO)

Candidates applying for different positions in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) have to attend the physical efficiency tests and meet the medical and physical standards mentioned below:

  • Physical Efficiency Tests

The Board of Officers, detailed by the Director General of Border Roads, carries out the physical efficiency tests at the GREF Centre or the respective recruitment centres. 

The criteria for the physical efficiency tests for Group C positions of SSC CGL have been outlined below:

Western Himalayan Areas

Uttarakhand, Punjab Hills (area to the west and south of the inter-state border present between Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and east and north of Garhshankar, Mukerian, Hoshiarpur, Ropar and Chandigarh), Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. 

Minimum Height: 158 cm

Minimum Chest: 75 cm (unexpanded) and 5 cm (after expansion)

Minimum Weight: 47.5 kg

Eastern Himalayan Areas

Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, Hill Areas of West Bengal (Kalimpong and Darjeeling districts) and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Minimum Height: 152 cm

Minimum Chest: 75 (unexpanded) and 5 cm (after expansion)

Minimum Weight: 47.5 kg

Western Plain Areas

Western Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab. 

Minimum Height: 162.5 cm

Minimum Chest: 76 cm (unexpanded) and 5 cm (after expansion)

Minimum Weight: 50 kg

Eastern Plain Areas

Jharkhand, Orissa, West Bengal, Bihar, Eastern Uttar Pradesh 

Minimum Height: 157 cm

Minimum Chest: 76 (unexpanded) and 5 cm (after expansion)

Minimum Weight: 50 kg

Central Areas

Chhattisgarh, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. 

Minimum Height: 157 cm

Minimum Chest: 76 (unexpanded) and 5 cm (after expansion)

Minimum Weight: 50 kg

Southern Areas

Telangana, Puducherry, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

Minimum Height: 157 cm

Minimum Chest: 75 (unexpanded) and 5 cm (after expansion)

Minimum Weight: 50 kg

Medical Tests and Standards

The necessary medical standards for the recruitment of candidates for the services in the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF) are according to their charter of responsibilities, job profiles and anticipated deployment, which includes extremely high altitude, remote and difficult regions of hilly areas. The compulsory medical standards for the services in the GREF are as follows:

  • General

Each candidate has to be adequately intelligent and free from nervous instability, along with being in possession of fine health.

  • General Examination

It is crucial for candidates to completely strip while the medical examination is being conducted. The Medical Officer examines each part of the candidate’s body. It is worth mentioning that any permanent body tattoo (apart from the inner part of the forearms) is not permissible. Any candidate with tattoos will be rejected even if they reach the round for general medical examination.

After all the medical tests are completed, candidates who are found unfit or fit are duly informed about their medical results by the medical board that carries out the tests.
