VAO Salary, Age Limit and Educational Qualification
Village Administrative Officer (VAO) is one of the most preferred choices of exams conducted by TNPSC. The VAO exam will be conducted once per year by Tamilnadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).
What is the salary of VAO in Tamil Nadu 2022
A Village Administrative Officer’s Salary according to TNPSC, is Rs. 5,200 – 20,200/ + 2,400 Grade Pay, per the 7th pay commission. They are also eligible for Dearness, House Rent, and Travelling allowances.
TNPSC VAO Promotion Scale
Candidates shortlisted/recruited as VAO by TNPSC will be promoted as an Assistant after 6 years of service. He/she would have to clear a Departmental Exam to get Assistant Post in Revenue Department.

Note: OC (Others) – Candidates not belonging to SC, SC(A), ST, MBC/DNC, BC, and BCM & the candidates, who have worked for 5 years in the state/central government are not eligible even if they are within the age limit.
Educational Qualification to apply for TNPSC VAO
The minimum educational qualification criteria for VAO is 10th Std. or SSLC equivalent. The VAO aspirant must possess this eligibility criterion on the date of notification.
Note: The applicants who have not passed S.S.L.C examination or its equivalent are not eligible even if they possess a higher qualification.
Knowledge of Tamil mandatory for VAOs'
Since Village Administrative Officers (VAO) are to work with/for the people of Tamilnadu, they should have to be fluent in (or) know to read and write the Tamil language. Candidates who haven’t studied Tamil as the subject will have to undergo for a Tamil proficiency test after clearing the exam.
