European Commission grants GI tag for Himachal’s Kangra tea
- The European Commission (EC) has granted protected geographical indication (PGI) for India’s unique Kangra tea, which is grown in Himachal Pradesh’s Kangra district.
- Kangra tea is grown at an elevation ranging from 900 to 1,400 metres above sea level with the annual rainfall being 270-350 cm.

Assam tea gardens get Rs 63 crore govt assistance to tackle pandemic losses
- The Assam government disbursed Rs 63.05 crore as a financial incentive to 370 tea gardens in the state to help them mitigate the adverse impact of the pandemic.
- Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the tea industry was the backbone of the state’s economy, making up nearly 90 per cent of its gross export value, besides providing direct and indirect employment to over a million people.

Rs 303 crores sanctioned for redevelopment of Cuttack railway station
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that Cuttack Railway Station will be redeveloped as a world class station and Rs 303 crore have been sanctioned for the redevelopment work.

Axis Bank, Shriram Housing Finance announce partnership for co-lending
- Private sector lender Axis Bank and Shriram Housing Finance Limited (SHFL) announced partnership under the co-lending model through the Yubi Co.Lend platform.
- Through this partnership, both the lenders will offer secured MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) loans and home loans to the middle and low-income segment borrowers based in rural and semi-urban regions.

Aditya Birla Health Insurance enters into bancassurance partnership with UCO Bank

AMNS Luxembourg Holding signs $5 billion loan agreement with consortium of Japanese banks
- ArcelorMittal said that AMNS Luxembourg Holding S.A., the parent company of AM/NS India, ArcelorMittal’s 60/40 steelmaking joint venture with Nippon Steel Corporation in India, has entered into a $5 billion loan agreement with a consortium of Japanese banks.
- The consortium includes Japan Bank for International Cooperation, MUFG Bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Mizuho Bank, and Mizuho Bank Europe N.V.
- The proceeds obtained through the JBIC co-financing loan will be used to finance the expansion of AM/NS India’s annual steelmaking capacity at its Hazira plant from 9 million tonnes to 15 million tonnes.

India unveils ‘dynamic’ foreign trade policy, eyes USD 2 trillion exports by 2030
- India came out with a ‘dynamic and responsive’ foreign trade policy with the objective of raising the country’s outward shipments to USD 2 trillion by 2030, making Indian Rupee a global currency and incentivising e-commerce exports.
- The approach of Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 is to move from ‘incentive to remission’ based regime; encourage collaboration between exporters, states, districts and Indian Missions; reduce transaction cost; and develop more export hubs.

New species of Moray eel discovered off Cuddalore coast named after Tamil Nadu
- Researchers have discovered a new species of Moray eel at the Mudasalodai fish landing centre off the Cuddalore coast.
- The species has been named after Tamil Nadu as Gymnothorax tamilnaduensis with common name as Tamil Nadu brown moray.
- The discovery has been published in the latest issue of the international peer-reviewed journal “Zoosystematics and Evolution” by researcher P. Kodeswaran, scientist G. Kantharajan, Principal scientist T.T. Ajith Kumar, Indian Council of Agricultural Research-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Anil Mohapatra of Estuarine Biology Regional Centre, Zoological Survey of India and Uttam Kumar Sarkar of NBFGR.

ITBP wins 13th All India Police Commando Competition
- The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has won the 13th edition of the All India Police Commando Competition (AIPCC) 2023 organized by the National Security Guard (NSG).
- A total of 24 top commando teams from the Central Armed Police Forces and State Police Forces participated in the competition.
- The competition was organized by the All India Police Sports Control Board (AIPSCB).
- Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) – CAPF is further classified into three: Border Guarding Forces—Assam Rifles (AR), Border Security Force (BSF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB); Forces for Internal Security—Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF); and Special Task Force—National Security Guard (NSG) – Ministry of Home Affairs (Under)

International Transgender Day of Visibility
- International Transgender Day of Visibility is annually observed on March 31.
- The day is dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society.
- The event was created by transgender activist Rachel Crandall of Michigan in 2009.
Utkal Divas or Odisha Day
- Odisha Day, also popularly known as Utkala Dibasa or Odisha Dibasa, is celebrated every year on April 1 in Odisha.
- On this day in 1936, the Indian state of Odisha was carved out of the combined Bengal.
Defence
MoD signs contracts with Indian shipyards for acquisition of next generation vessels
- In a huge boost to achieve ‘Aatmanirbharta’ in defence, Ministry of Defence, signed contracts with Indian shipyards for acquisition of 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and six Next Generation Missile Vessels at an overall cost of approx. Rs 19,600 crores.
- The contract for acquisition of 11 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels under Buy (Indian-IDDM) category was signed with Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata at a total cost of Rs 9,781 crore.
- Of the 11 ships, seven will be indigenously designed, developed & manufactured by GSL and four by GRSE.
- The delivery of the ships is scheduled to commence from September 2026.
- The contract for acquisition of six Next Generation Missile Vessels (NGMV) was signed with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) at a cost of Rs 9,805 crore.
- The delivery of ships is scheduled to commence from March 2027.

- Ministry of Defence, inked a contract with BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) for procurement of Next Generation Maritime Mobile Coastal Batteries (Long range) {NGMMCB (LR)} and BrahMos Missiles at an approximate cost of over Rs 1,700 crore under Buy (Indian) Category.
- The delivery of NGMMCBs is scheduled to commence from 2027.
- These systems will be equipped with supersonic BrahMos Missiles and will significantly enhance multi-directional maritime strike capability of Indian Navy.
