Over 2.31 lakh wetlands mapped in the Country by Space Application Centre, Ahmedabad

  • The Government informed that there are 75 Wetlands of International Importance as Ramsar sites covering an area of 1.33 million hectares in the country.
  • Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ashwini Kumar Choubey said more than 2 lakh 31 thousand wetlands have been mapped in the Country by Space Application Centre ISRO, Ahmedabad.
  • He also informed that recently a National Wetland Decadal Change Atlas 2017 has been published on the status of wetlands in the country.
  • Mr. Choubey further informed that to maintain information about the ecological conditions of wetlands National Wetlands Committee and State Wetlands Authorities have been constituted within their jurisdiction.

GI Tag for Basohli Painting

  • The world-famous Basohli painting from Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district has obtained the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag following an approval by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).
  • Besides the Basohli paintings, Basohli pashmina woolen products (Kathua), Chikri wood craft (Rajouri), Bhaderwah rajma (Doda), Mushkbudji rice (Anantnag), Kaladi (Udhampur), Sulai honey (Ramban), Anardana (Ramban) and Ladakh wood carving (Ladakh) were the other products pitched for the GI-tagging.
  • These products from Jammu and Kashmir have been included among 33 others, highest-ever in a single year, cleared for GI-tagging on March 31.
  • Basohli painting of Kathua is the first independent GI tagged product from Jammu region.

Telangana introduces ‘cool roof policy’

  • Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao launched the Telangana Cool Roof Policy 2023-28 to make the state more thermally comfortable and heat-resilient by reducing the impact of the urban heat island effect and heat stress, and also to bring down energy consumption.
  • A cool roof, which uses special paints or tile cover, is designed to reflect more sunlight than a conventional roof, thus reducing heat retention and cooling indoor spaces.

NBCC bags Rs 448 crores order for road construction in Mizoram along Indo-Bangla border

  • State-owned construction company NBCC has received an order worth Rs 448 crore from the Ministry of Home Affairs for laying an 88.58-kilometre-long road in Mizoram along the Indo-Bangla border.

2nd G20 Employment Working Group Meeting held in Guwahati

  • 2nd Employment Working Group Meeting of the G20 was held in Guwahati.
  • A total of 74 delegates from member countries, guest countries and international organizations have participated in the three-day long event.

Krishi Udan Scheme covers 58 airports in the country

  • Minister of State for Civil Aviation Gen.V K Singh has said the Krishi Udan Scheme covers 58 airports in the country.
  • The Minister said that it primarily focuses on 25 airports in North Eastern, Hilly and Tribal regions, besides 33 airports in the other areas.
  • This scheme has been launched to assist farmers in transporting agricultural products.
  • He said, for facilitating and boosting the movement of agri products, Airport Authority of India is providing the infrastructure.

Bank NPAs to improve to decadal low of 3.8pc by FY24-end

  • Banks’ gross non-performing assets (NPAs) will reduce further to a decadal low of 3.8 per cent by end of FY2023-24, credit rating agency Crisil.
  • The agency estimates NPAs to reduce to 4.2 per cent by end of the just concluded FY23 as against 5.9 per cent in the year-ago period.
  • It had earlier estimated NPAs to come at 4 per cent by end of FY24.

World Bank cuts India's growth forecast to 6.3 pc in FY24

  • India’s GDP is expected to moderate to 6.3 per cent, as against earlier estimate of 6.6 per cent, due to moderation in consumption in FY24, the World Bank said in a report.
  • The report projects Current Account Deficit to moderate to 2.1 per cent in FY24, as against 3 per cent in the current financial year.
  • With regard to inflation, the World Bank Report expects it to ease to 5.2 per cent, against 6.6 per cent in the current fiscal.

ADB slashes India GDP growth forecast to 6.4% for FY24

  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) slashed its India growth forecast for FY24 to 6.4 per cent from 7.2 per cent estimated earlier, citing risks arising from global and domestic factors.

PhonePe launches new shopping app Pincode on ONDC

  • PhonePe launched a new shopping app called “Pincode,” which is built on top of the ONDC platform.
  • The app will focus on hyperlocal e-commerce and is now available for download on the Google Play Store and App Store.
  • Currently, the app is live only for customers in Bengaluru and will be launched in other cities soon.

Nasa names first woman and black man on Moon mission

  • Christina Koch will become the first woman astronaut ever assigned to a lunar mission, while Victor Glover will be the first black astronaut on one.
  • They will join Reid Wiseman and Jeremy Hansen to fly a capsule around the Moon late next year or early in 2025.
  • The astronauts won’t land on the Moon, but their mission will pave the way for a touchdown by a subsequent crew.

  • The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Ladies Organisation (FLO) said investment banker and lawyer Sudha Shivkumar has taken over as its 40th National President.
  • FICCI FLO is the oldest women-led and women-centric business chamber of Southeast Asia.
  • Sudha Shivkumar has served FLO Chennai Chapter as its chairperson in 2016-17.
  • FLO currently has 19 chapters across the country with about 3,000 members.

Of ₹24,000 crore promised, UP & TN defence corridors get ₹6,000 crore from 163 MoUs

  • Over ₹6,000 crore investments have come into two defence industrial corridors (DICs) of Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu out of total commitment of close to ₹24,000 crores to the two States emerging from 163 MoUs with industries and institutions, the government told the parliament.
  • As per available information, 108 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) have been signed with industry/organisation in UPDIC having potential investment of ₹12,191 crores.
  • Investment of ₹2,445 crores has been made and 1,611 ha of lands has been acquired so far for development of UPDIC.
  • Further, in Tamil Nadu, arrangements have been made through MoUs etc with 53 industries for potential investment of ₹11,794 crore.
  • Investment worth ₹3,894 crore has been made and 910 ha has been acquired so far for development of TNDIC.
  • The UPDIC is spread over six nodes of Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Kanpur, Chitrakoot and Lucknow, while TNDIC is confined to Chennai, Hosur, Coimbatore, Salem and Tiruchirappalli.
  • Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is the nodal agency for UPDIC and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) is the nodal agency for TNDIC, with both the states announcing their respective aerospace and defence policy to attract investments in DICs.
