‘Adi Vyakhyan’ – a two-day tribal orientation programme

  • Union Minister for Tribal Affairs and Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Arjun Munda, inaugurated a two-day tribal orientation programme – Adi Vyakhyan – in New Delhi.
  • The programme has been organized by the National Tribal Research Institute (NTRI), with an objective to have a deeper understanding of complexities of tribal traditions and culture and to explore the challenges to their existence.
  • This is an initiative to explore tribal identity and the tribal contributions to the nation’s cultural diversity.
  • The Adi Vyakhyan will familiarize the tribal communities with the statistical input of India and the Constitutional safeguards in order to unfold the nuances of the Panchayats (Extension of Scheduled Areas) (PESA) Act, 1996, the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006, Prevention of SC/STs Atrocities Act, 1989.
  • It is expected to provide valuable insights into the legal frameworks that shape tribal governance and land rights and will set the stage for a deeper understanding for tribal people.
  • Representatives of Munda communities from 5 states (Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and Assam) actively participated in the inaugural programme.

Sarbananda Sonowal Releases of Commemorative Postal Stamp on First Foundation Day of AIIA Goa

  • Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal marked the first foundation day of the All India Institute of Ayurveda, Goa by releasing a commemorative postal stamp in the presence of MoS Ayush and WCD Dr Munjapara Mahendrabhai and Vd. Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary Ministry of Ayush.
  • The significant event, jointly organized by the All India Institute of Ayurveda and India Post took place at the Transport Bhawan in New Delhi.
  • The All India Institute of Ayurveda is a premier institution in the field of Ayurveda, dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services with motto of compassion with care.

99.8% of ration cards seeded with Aadhaar under One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC)

  • At present, around 8% of ration cards have been seeded with Aadhaar for the rightful targeting of Public Distribution System (PDS) beneficiaries in the country.
  • The One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) plan has already been implemented by all 36 States/UTs, across the country.
  • Since its inception around 124 Crore portability transactions have been recorded under the ONORC plan, which includes both inter-State and intra-State transactions ensuring the food security of around 80 Crore beneficiaries in the country.
  • ONORC plan is proving to be especially beneficial to the migrant labourers, internally displaced persons (IDPs) etc. who frequently change their place of dwelling in search of temporary employment.
  • Under the plan, the beneficiaries are empowered to lift their entitled foodgrain from any Fair Price Shop (FPS) of their choice, anywhere in the country, by using their existing ration card/Aadhaar card with biometric authentication on an electronic Point of Sale (ePoS) device.
  • ONORC also enables the family members of such migrant beneficiaries back home (in the village/hometown) to lift the part / balance foodgrains on the same ration card.
  • ONORC has also facilitated the migrant beneficiaries/ family members to choose any FPS of their choice without being dependent on visiting only the tagged FPS in their ration cards.
  • Such flexibility was not available earlier under the traditional PDS.

State News

Manoj Sinha lays foundation stone for 50-bedded Ayush integrated hospital at Ghagwal, Jammu & Kashmir

  • In Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra at Mahal Shah Panchayat, Samba.
  • He also laid the foundation stone for the 50-bed Ayush integrated hospital at Ghagwal.
  • The Hospital will provide Ayurveda, Unani, and Homeopathic healthcare facilities to the people.

Schemes

Scheme for “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects”

  • The Scheme for “Development of Solar Parks and Ultra Mega Solar Power Projects” was rolled out in December 2014 with an aggregate capacity of 20,000 MW.
  • Further, the capacity of the Solar Park Scheme was enhanced to 40,000 MW in March 2017 to set up at least 50 Solar Parks.
  • The timeline of the scheme is up to 2023-24.
  • Under the scheme, 50 Solar Parks with an aggregate capacity of 37,490 MW have been sanctioned as of November 30, 2023 across 12 states.
  • Against sanctioned capacity, 11 solar parks with aggregate capacity of 8521 MW have been completed and 8 solar parks with aggregate capacity of 4910 MW have been partially completed.
  • Thus, solar projects of aggregate capacity of 10,401 MW have been developed in States and 4 States are yet to commission any capacity.
  • Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh have been sanctioned 9 parks (for a capacity of 8276 MW), 8 parks (4180 MW), 7 parks (3730 MW), 7 parks (12,150 MW) and 5 parks (4200 MW) respectively.
  • Of the 10,401 MW capacity, Rajasthan has so far commissioned 3065 MW of capacity, while Andhra Pradesh has commissioned 3050 MW.
  • Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh have commissioned 2000 MW and 1000 MW capacity respectively.

Culture ministry sets aside ₹350 crore fund for promoting eight schemes

  • The Ministry of Culture will disburse a financial assistance of over ₹350 crore spread over a five-year period for promotion of art and culture across 8 scheme components.
  • While disbursements in FY22 was earmarked at ₹68.79 crore, and in FY23 at ₹71.19 crore; For FY24 to FY26, the disbursals are at ₹71.16 crore, every year.
  • The disbursements will be made directly towards “cultural organizations” which could be non-government organisations (NGOs), Institutions, Voluntary Organisations, among others.
  • Financial assistance is granted to organisations having a national presence up to maximum of one crore rupees; grant for Cultural Function & Production Grant (CFPG) with a maximum grant provided under CFPG being at ₹5 lakhs, which can be increased to ₹20 lakhs “under exceptional circumstances”.

Bandhan Bank gets binding bid worth ₹280.39 crores from ARC for housing finance NPA

  • Bandhan Bank has received a binding bid worth ₹280.39 crore from an asset reconstruction company (ARC) for a non-performing asset (NPA) portfolio in the housing finance segment.
  • The bank will take up the bidding as per the Swiss challenge method.
  • However, the name of the ARC was not revealed by the lender.
  • The board of directors of the Kolkata-based bank has approved the proposal to sell its Housing Finance NPA portfolio, having days past due (DPD) of more than 180 days, with an outstanding of ₹775.62 crore (as on September 30, 2023), to an ARC.

Assam signed MoU with Bandhan Bank

  • Bandhan Bank had secured the mandate to collect revenue on the e-GRAS Portal from the Assam government.

Ministry of Mines launched National Geoscience Data Repository portal

Director General (Investigation) of Competition Commission of India

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) had appointed Ansuman Pattnaik, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, as Director General (Investigation).

UNESCO awards Rambagh Gate & Ramparts in Punjab

Mohini Giri passes away

  • Former chair of the National Commission for Women and Padma Bhushan awardee V Mohini Giri passed away.
  • The iconic women’s rights activist founded the Guild of Service in 1979, which was dedicated to empowering women, underprivileged children and war widows.
  • Giri was awarded the Padma Bhushan for her work in 2007 by then President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

  • World Basketball Day is annually observed on December 21.

Ministry of Defence signs Rs 1,614.89 crore contract with Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Ltd for procurement of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard

  • The Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL), Mumbai for the procurement of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVS) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
  • The contract was made under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category at a total cost of ₹1614.89 Crore.
  • Out of the six vessels being procured, four would replace the existing aging OPVs and the other two would augment the ICG fleet.
  • These modern and high-tech Ships will play a critical role in enhancing surveillance, Law enforcement, Search and Rescue, Maritime Pollution Response, and other important capabilities including humanitarian assistance by the ICG.
  • Along with several high-tech advanced features and equipment, these 115m OPVS would be equipped with Multipurpose Drones, AI capability, and Wirelessly Controlled Remote Water Rescue Craft Lifebuoy, etc. enabling greater flexibility and operational edge to the ICG to face new age multidimensional challenges.
  • These Multi-role State-of-the-Art vessels will be indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured by MDL, Mumbai, and will be delivered in a total period of 66 months.
  • The contract achieves the objectives of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ to boost the nation’s indigenous shipbuilding capability, bolstering maritime economic activities and fostering the growth of ancillary industries, especially the MSME sector.
  • The project will also generate employment opportunities and expertise development in the country.

INS Shivaji received ‘Vir Chakra’ of Late Vice Admiral Chowdhury
