A Two-Week 4th Mid-Career Training Programme for Civil Servants of Gambia completed successfully in New Delhi

  • A Two-week 4th Mid-Career Training Programme for mid-level Civil Servants of Gambia in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) completed successfully in New Delhi.
  • The program was attended by 30 officers representing key ministries in Gambia.
  • The event marked successful implementation of India Gambia MoU on Personnel Administration and Governance 2019-24.
  • National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), an autonomous institution under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India.
  • NCGG’s efforts align with the Indian philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’e.“The world is one Family” and emphasizes strengthening bilateral ties and fostering cooperation with other countries.
  • The NCGG has in partnership with MEA, NCGG successfully imparted training to civil servants of 17 countries Bangladesh, Maldives, Kenya, Tanzania, Tunisia, Seychelles, Gambia, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Laos, Vietnam, Nepal Bhutan, Myanmar, Ethiopia, Eretria and Cambodia with requests being received from several countries for collaboration in the area of capacity building for civil servants.

First Command and Control Compatibility Board meeting for 2024 between India & U.S. held in New Delhi

  • The first Command and Control Compatibility Board (CCCB) meeting for 2024 between India and the U.S. was held at Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.
  • The meeting had participation of a 29 member United States delegation led by Mr Paul Nicholson, Executive Director, US INDOPACOM and a 38-member Indian delegation led by Brigadier Rahul Anand of Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff.
  • The CCCB is the Technical Expert Group formed under Article XI of the Communication Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) between India and USA, and is held twice a year.
  • After signing of the historic agreement in September 2018, this is the 7th such meeting between both nations to calibrate, reinforce and achieve steady progress in the bilateral Defence partnership.

Peru and Slovakia sign the Artemis Accords for peaceful moon exploration

  • NASA held a ceremony at its headquarters in Washington, D. to host representatives from both Slovakia and Peru.
  • During the event, both countries signed the agency’s Artemis Accords, a set of principles that aims to lay out a framework for peaceful cooperation in space and on the moon.

Narendra Modi Takes Oath as India’s Prime Minister For Third Consecutive Term

  • PM-designate Narendra Modi took oath as Prime Minister of India for his third successive term at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi.
  • President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to Narendra Modi.
  • Apart from two terms as Prime Minister in 2014 & 2019, he also has the distinction of being the longest-serving Chief Minister of Gujarat with his term spanning from October 2001 to May 2014.

SKM Leader Prem Singh Tamang Sworn-In as CM of Sikkim

  • Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) leader Prem Singh Tamang sworn-in as Chief Minister of Sikkim.
  • He will be the 7th Chief Minister of the state and would replace Prem Singh Tamang.

Indian Navy gets its first woman helicopter pilot

  • Sub Lieutenant Anamika B. Rajeev became the Indian Navy’s first woman helicopter pilot during a passing out parade held in the naval air station INS Rajali at Arakkonam in Ranipet district.
  • A total of 21 officers were awarded the prestigious ‘Golden Wings’ by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
  • Lieutenant Gurkirat Rajput received the FOC-in-C, Eastern Naval Command Rolling Trophy for the trainee pilot standing First in Order of Merit in flying.
  • Lt Nitin Sharan Chaturvedi received the Sub Lieutenant Kunte Memorial Book Prize for standing First in Order of Merit in ground subjects.
  • Lieutenant Deepak Gupta received the Governor of Kerala Rolling Trophy for first in Overall Order of Merit.
  • The Helicopter Training School at Arakkonam has trained 849 pilots of the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard as well as friendly foreign nations.

  • Raj Priy Singh (IFoS) has been selected for the appointment as Director in the Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Rural Development.

Sebi bags 'Best Conduct of Business Regulator' award by The Asian Banker

  • Sebi has been given ‘Best Conduct of Business Regulator’ award in Asia Pacific by The Asian Banker for its role in enhancing the regulatory framework for securities markets in India.
  • The award was received by Sebi’s Whole Time Member Kamlesh Chandra Varshney.
  • The Asian Banker creates platforms to build a greater sense of community amongst players in the financial services industry, from traditional banks and digital disruptors to fintechs and platform players.

Kolkata-based filmmaker’s short film wins grant at the KASHISH film festival

  • The short film Mehroon has bagged two laurels at the KASHISH International Film Festival in Mumbai.
  • Director Abu Sohel Khondekar (she/they), a transwoman and a queer filmmaker, won the KASHISH QDrishti Film Grant 2023 to make the film.
  • After the screening of the film at Liberty Cinema, Mumbai, she also won the Special Jury Mention for Riyad Wadia Award for Best Emerging Indian Filmmaker.
  • KASHISH is the biggest queer film festival in South Asia which saw hundreds of queer directors, film industry workers, and actors join in from across the globe to screen and celebrate the stories from and of the community.
  • Among them, Kolkata-based 34-year-old Khondekar managed to get the ₹2.5 lakh grant for her first short film.

Gulveer Singh wins silver in men's 5000m in Portland Track 2024

  • Indian long-distance runner Gulveer Singh clinched a silver medal at the men’s 5000m at the Portland Track Festival 2024 athletics meet held at the Mount Hood Community College in the United States of America.
  • Dylan Jacobs finished ahead of the Indian in the 5000m race with a timing of 13:18.18 seconds.
  • In other events, India’s Sanjivani Jadhav won gold in women’s 10000m event, while Avinash Sable won silver in the men’s 3000m steeplechase and Parul Chaudhary finished third in the women’s 3000m steeplechase race.

Gurpreet Singh Sandhu named Indian football team's new captain

  • India’s first-choice goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was named the captain of the team for the must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Qatar.
  • With 71 caps, the 32-year-old is the most experienced and longest-serving player in the national team after Chhetri’s retirement.

Saurabh Sharma clinches two gold in World Para Athletics Grand Prix

  • Saurabh Sharma from Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur district clinched two gold medals in the ongoing World Para Athletics Grand Prix in the Nottwil city of Switzerland.
  • Saurabh Sharma, a student of the National Drishti Divyangjan Empowerment Institute in Dehradun, won the 1500-metre and 5000-metre races in the T12 category, which refers to track athletes with a visual impairment.
  • He hails from Ropa Khayah village of Nadaun area in Hamirpur district, had earlier won seven gold medals at the national level.

Puja Tomar becomes the first-ever Indian to win a fight at UFC

  • Indian MMA fighter Puja Tomar created history as she became the first-ever Indian to win a fight at Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
  • She defeated Brazil’s Rayanne dos Santos in the UFC Louisville 2024 held in Louisville, Kentucky, The US.

Singapore set to host World Aquatic Championships in 2025

  • World Aquatics, announced that the 22nd World Aquatics Championships will be taking place in Singapore in 2025 from July 11 to August 3.
  • The decision has been taken following a meeting between World Aquatics Bureau and the Singapore 2025 Organising Committee.
  • The mega 24-day event will be taking place at the Singapore Sports Hub and Sentosa.
  • The event, considered the premier international aquatics competition, will feature 76 medal events across six aquatic sports: swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming, open water swimming, and high diving.
  • Singapore Aquatics and Sport Singapore, a statutory board under the Ministry of Culture, Community, and Youth, will collaborate closely to host the championships.
  • Over 2,500 athletes representing the 210 member countries of World Aquatics are expected to participate.

  • The Day highlights the work that accreditation and conformity assessment does to improve so many aspects of life, whether for consumers, society as a whole, business or government.
  • In 2008, the day was established by International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).
  • World Accreditation Day poster was created by Japhet Tolosa Celis and Jazzy April Macogue Tolosa and is the result of a competition run by ILAC and IAF.

International Archives Day 2024 is observed on June 9

  • International Archives Day is annually observed on June 9.
  • The day is observed to raise awareness among public about the importance of records and archives and aims to make the general public, private and public sectors fully conscious of the need for long-term archival preservation and access.
  • During the 2004 International Congress in Vienna, 2000 attending participants adopted a resolution requesting that the United Nations to designate a specific day to mark the importance and value of archives.
  • Later in 2007, at the Annual General Meeting of International Council on Archives, it was decided that June 9 would be celebrated as International Archives Day.
