Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train

  • Indian Railways, in collaboration with IRCTC, is set to launch the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train to promote Dekho Apna Desh and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiatives.
  • Departing from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the circular route will cover iconic destinations such as Mumbai, Pune, Solapur, Guntakal, Renigunta, Rameshwaram, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Kochuveli, and back to CSMT.
  • The train, offering Economy, Comfort, and Deluxe options, aims to showcase India’s rich cultural and religious heritage to both domestic and international tourists.

2023 Edition of the Indo-Pacific regional dialogue

  • The “Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2023” (IPRD-2023), the three-day annual apex-level regional strategic dialogue of the Indian Navy, held in New Delhi.
  • Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Hon’ble Vice President of India was the Chief Guest for the ‘Commemorative Session’.
  • The IPRD-2023 is being organised by the Indian Navy in association with the National Maritime Foundation as its knowledge partner.
  • Established in 2005, the NMF is one of India’s foremost maritime think-tank that concentrates its research upon issues relevant to India’s maritime interests, and has gained significant international traction for conduct of independent, original, and policy-relevant research on all ‘matters maritime’.
  • Two professional sessions held during the day focussed on the themes – “Nodes of Maritime Connectivity” and “Maritime Connectivity Initiatives Across the Indo-Pacific”.
  • The Hon’ble Vice President released a book entitled “Building Partnerships – India and International Cooperation for Maritime Security” and the Hon’ble Finance Minister released an edited volume entitled “Maritime Perspectives: Maritime Security Dynamics in the Indo-Pacific: Strategies and Trends”.
  • Both the books have been published by the National Maritime Foundation.

State News

Sunflower initiative by Delhi Airport

  • Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) introduced a range of special services aimed at enhancing the travel experience for such individuals at Delhi Airport to facilitate the smooth movement of people with hidden disabilities
  • DIAL has transformed Delhi Airport into a Sunflower Airport aligned with the globally recognised Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative, and sensitised all passenger-facing partners through this programme with a globally developed framework.
  • Under this initiative, DIAL has introduced a variety of merchandise options, including sunflower lanyards, pin badges, and wristbands.
  • These discreet yet identifiable items allow passengers to signal their need for assistance from airport staff.

Schemes

PM PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) Development Mission

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PM PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups) Development Mission, a ₹24,000-crore scheme to ensure holistic development of an estimated 28 lakh tribal population.
  • Under Pradhan Mantri Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PM PVTG) Mission, basic facilities such as road and telecom connectivity, electricity, safe housing, clean drinking water and sanitation, improved access to education, health and nutrition and sustainable livelihood opportunities will be provided to PVTG habitations, which are mostly remote, scattered and inaccessible.
  • Prime Minister Modi also launched the Pradhan Mantri Janjaatiya Aadivasi Nyaya Mahabhiyaan, PM JanMan on the occasion of third Janjaatiya Gaurav Diwas at Khunti district of Jharkhand.
  • And also launched the ‘Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra’ to ensure saturation of flagship government schemes.
  • The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation and laid the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth around ₹7200 crore rupees under Education, Railway, Coal, Roads and Petroleum Ministry in Jharkhand.

PM Kisan

  • Prime Minister released the 15th instalment for the August-November period of ₹16,220 crores of ₹2,000 each to 11 crore farmers across the country.
  • About ₹2,390 crore arrears from previous instalments were also released.
  • The government has so far released over ₹2.75-lakh crore since the scheme’s launch in February 2019.

RBI directed Bajaj Finance to stop sanction, disbursal of loans under two lending products

  • The Reserve Bank of India has directed Bajaj Finance Ltd to stop sanction and disbursal of loans under its two lending products ‘eCOM’ and ‘Insta EMI Card’, with immediate effect.
  • The move was implemented in exercise of its powers under section 45L(1)(b) of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.
  • The action was necessitated due to non-adherence of the extant provisions of Digital lending guidelines of Reserve Bank of India by the company.
  • These supervisory restrictions will be reviewed upon the rectification of the said deficiencies to the satisfaction of the Reserve Bank.

"Dashboard" portal of the Ministry of Science & Technology

  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh launched the software application “Dashboard” portal of the Ministry of Science & Technology for real-time, prompt and effective Parliament business including Parliament Questions, Acts of Parliament and Gazette Notifications of Govt. of India as well as Cabinet Notes.
  • Earlier, the Minister laid the Foundation Stone of the new Auditorium-cum-Guest House Complex in the premises of the “Technology Bhavan” which is the headquarters of the Department of Science & Technology (DST).
  • He unveiled the plaque at the site and also took part in the Bhoomi Pujan.

NITI Aayog Appointed Four Distinguished Fellows

  • NITI Aayog, the premier policy think tank of the Government of India, recently appointed four Distinguished Fellows for a period of one year.

Directors of Jio Financial Services

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Isha Ambani, Anshuman Thakur and Hitesh Kumar Sethia as directors of Jio Financial Services.
  • This approval is valid only for six months from the date of this letter.
  • In case the company fails to give effect to the proposal within this time frame, it will have to apply again with reasons for having failed to effect the change on the earlier occasion.

‘Lifetime Disturbing the Peace Award’

  • World-renowned author Salman Rushdie has been awarded the first-ever ‘Lifetime Disturbing the Peace Award’ by the Vaclav Havel Center.
  • He was also the recipient of the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
  • The ceremony, hosted by veteran CBS journalist Lesley Stahl, took place at the Havel Center, previously known as the Vaclav Havel Library Foundation.
  • This center, established in 2012 to perpetuate Havel’s legacy, focuses on advocating for human rights and free expression.

Sports News

Most ODI centuries

  • India batter Virat Kohli broke the record of most ODI centuries by hitting his 50th ton in the format at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
  • Kohli hit his 50th ODI hundred against New Zealand in India’s semi-final encounter at the World Cup in Mumbai.
  • Kohli began his international career in 2008, incidentally making his debut in the ODI format.
  • His first-ever ODI hundred came against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in December 2009.
  • He is the only batsman to score more than 700 runs in the showpiece.
  • The previous best was Tendulkar’s 673 in the 2003 edition.

1st player to hit 50 sixes in World Cups

  • Indian captain Rohit Sharma became the first player in World Cup history to smash 50 sixes.
  • He went past Chris Gayle’s mark of 49 sixes in World Cups.
  • The 36-year-old got to the mark during his innings of 47 runs from 29 balls in the semifinal clash against New Zealand in Mumbai.

First Indian bowler to take 7 wickets in an ODI cricket match

  • Mohammed Shami becomes the first Indian bowler in a One Day International (ODI) cricket match to take seven wickets with 57 runs.
  • Shami also became the first Indian bowler to take two five-wicket hauls against an opponent in the World Cup.
  • Shami also surpassed Zaheer Khan to take the most wickets for India in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. 
  • Shami also registered the best bowling figures in the ICC ODI World Cup knockouts and broke a 48-year-old record.

3rd Hockey India Senior Women Inter Department National Championship

  • Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas & Housing and Urban Affairs inaugurated the 3rd Hockey India Senior Women Inter Department National Championship 2023 and the tournament trophy at Shivaji Stadium, New Delhi.
  • The eight-team participating in the tournament are All Indian Police Sports Control Board, Railway Sports Promotion Board, UCO Bank, Sports Authority of India, Union Bank of India, Sashastra Seema Bal, Tamil Nadu Police and the host Indian Oil Corporation-Women.
  • At the event, historian and author of hockey in India, K Armugum was honoured for his contribution to the game.
  • Twenty-Five girls from his NGO, One Thousand Hockey Legs (OTHL) were give brand new Hockey sticks by the Hon’ble Minister and the dignitaries present.

  • This year the day falls on November 16.
  • The day was proclaimed by UNESCO and was first celebrated on 21 November 2002.

  • This action followed the adoption of a Declaration of Principles on Tolerance by UNESCO’s Member States on 16 November 1995.

Joint exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’

  • India and Sri Lanka began the joint exercise ‘Mitra Shakti’ at the Foreign Training Node in Pune.
  • Its aim is to promote close relations between armies of both countries and enhance interoperability and sharing of best practices in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism (CI-CT) operations.
  • ‘Mitra Shakti’ which means ‘power of friendship’ is conducted under the United Nations’ (UN) mandate as both armies contribute to the UN Peacekeeping Forces deployed in the troubled areas across the world.
  • The previous edition of Mitra Shakti was conducted in Sri Lanka in October 2021.
