Railway Recruitment Board examination is a national level exam, held to recruit the candidates for various positions in Indian Railways. Candidates can choose from several technical and non-technical posts according to their qualification and preference. RRB exams 2023 syllabus mainly includes three stages: computer-based test, physical efficiency test and then document verification.
There are 4 main exams that are conducted under RRB:
1 – RRB NTPC (Non-Technical Popular Categories)
2 – RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot)
3 – RRB JE (Junior engineer)
4 – RRB Group D
RRB NTPC 2023
The exam is conducted to recruit candidates for various posts under Non-Technical Popular Categories in Indian Railways. RRB recruitment 2023 is categorized in mainly two categories that are undergraduate and graduate posts. Candidates interested in RRB NTPC can apply online through the RRB official website once the application form is available.

RRB NTPC 2023 Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility criteria is different for various undergraduate and graduate posts as mentioned below.
Graduate posts
- The age of the candidate should be between 18-33 years.
- Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised university.
Undergraduate posts
- The age of the candidate should be between 18-30 years.
- Candidates must have completed their 12th grade from a recognised board.
Important points
- The citizens of India, Nepal and Bhutan can apply for the exam. Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling permanently are eligible for the exam. Also candidates of Indian origin from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam, with the intention of settling permanently are eligible to apply.
- Candidates who are in their final year or who are waiting for their results are ineligible to apply for the RRB NTPC exam.
- The age relaxation for SC/ST candidates is 5 years, and it is 3 years for OBC candidates.
- There are a few RRB NTPC posts that require candidates to be proficient in English and Hindi typing.
RRB NTPC 2023 Exam Pattern
RRB exam pattern 2023 consists of three exams conducted for the process of recruitment that include two computer based tests and a skill/aptitude test.

CBT 1 Exam Pattern 2023
1 – The duration of the exam is 1.5 hrs. or 90 minutes. PWD candidates get 2 hrs. or 120 minutes for the exam.
2 – Each question has a weightage of 1 mark.
3 – For wrong answers negative marking is 0.25 marks.

4 – For every wrong answer ⅓ marks will be deducted.

Skill/Aptitude Test
A skill/aptitude test is a typing test on a computer in which candidates must be able to write 30 words per minute in English and 25 words per minute in Hindi.

The exam is conducted to recruit the candidates for the posts of Assistant Loco Pilot and Technician in Indian Railways. Candidates can apply for the RRB ALP exam through the official website of RRB.

RRB ALP 2023 Eligibility Criteria
- Citizens of India, Nepal, and Bhutan, as well as Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, with the aim of settling permanently, can apply for the exam. Candidates of Indian heritage from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam may also apply for the RRB NTPC with the purpose of settling permanently.
- Candidates who are within the age group of 18 to 28 years can apply for the exam. Age relaxation for SC/ST and OBC candidates is 5 years and 3 years respectively.
- Education qualification required for RRB ALP is –
Assistant Loco Pilot – 10th, Completed Act Apprentices, SSLC with ITI or Diploma/Degree from a recognized Institute/University.
Technicians – 10th, SSLC with ITI, 12th with Physics and Math, Course Completed Act Apprentices or Diploma in Engineering from a recognized Institute/University.

There are 3 stages of RRB ALP examination that include –

1 – The duration of CBT 1 exam is 1 hr. or 60 minutes.

For computer based aptitude test candidates have to score 42 marks in each test battery to clear the exam. There is no negative marking.

RRB JE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

RRB Group D 2023 Eligibility Criteria
- Other than Indian, Nepalese, and Bhutanese citizens, Tibetan refugees who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, as well as candidates of Indian origin from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam, are also eligible for the exam.
