National News

PM’s Gati Shakti Master Plan

  • Under Prime Minister’s ‘Gati Shakti Master Plan’, the power transmission network is planned to be expanded from 4,25,500 circuit kilometer (existing as on 31.05.2020) to 4,54,200 circuit kilometer (ckm) by 2024-25 resulting in addition of nearly 28,700 ckm.
  • This addition has been proposed in the Inter State Transmission system (ISTS) network at 220kV and above voltage level.
  • Some of the transmission system are likely to be completed beyond 2024-25.
  • Hence, against the planned transmission lines addition of 28700 ckm, the transmission network to be added by 2024-25 is about 27,000 ckm.
  • The estimated cost of these projects is around Rs. 75,000 crores.

269 districts in 27 states distributing Fortified Rice under Targeted Public Distribution System

  • A total of 269 districts in 27 states have started distributing about 105 LMT of fortified rice under Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), achieving a 100% target set for Phase II by March 2023 in Rice Fortification Programme, informed Shri Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary Department of Food and Public Distribution.
  • Phase-I covered ICDS and PM POSHAN.
  • It was implemented during 2021-22 and nearly 17.51 LMT had been distributed in the States/UTs.

India received 6.19 million foreign tourists in 2022, up from 1.52 million in 2021

  • India received 6.19 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in 2022 as compared to 1.52 million during the same period in 2021, Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy.
  • There were 10.93 million Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in India during the pre-pandemic year of 2019.

Cabinet Committee

  • Union Cabinet approved revised domestic gas pricing guidelines.
  • Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said, the price of natural gas is to be 10 per cent of the monthly average of Indian Crude Basket.
  • He said that the move is to ensure stable pricing in regime and provide adequate protection to producers from adverse market fluctuation.
  • The Minister also stated that it will provide incentives for enhancing production.
  • The Cabinet also approved Indian Space Policy 2023.
  • It will aim at enhancing the role of Department of Space as well as boosting activities of ISRO missions.
  • Briefing media, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh said that the policy will give a larger participation of research, academia, startups and industry.

  • The Geographical Indication Registry granted Chhattisgarh’s aromatic rice, Nagri Dubraj, a geographical indication (GI) tag facilitating the brand to get a unique identity and a wide market.
  • The Nagri Dubraj is known as the Basmati of Chhattisgarh because of its fragrance.

High Commissioner Pranay Verma releases the special edition of Bharat Bichitra magazine in Dhaka

  • A special edition of the ‘Bharat Bichitra’ magazine published by the High Commission of India in Bangladesh was released by the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Pranay Verma in Dhaka.
  • The special edition of Bharat Bichitra celebrates the shared heritage and values, as well as the progress that both India and Bangladesh have made in their bilateral partnership, and will be a testament to the close and enduring relationship between our two countries.
  • The magazine as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.

President Droupadi Murmu inaugurates Gaj Utsav at Kaziranga in Assam

  • President Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the Gaj Utsav-2023 at the Kaziranga National Park in Assam.
  • The event marked 30 years of Project Elephant.
  • She said that Kaziranga is the perfect place to hold the Gaj Utsav as Assam is the home to second largest elephant population of the country.

Uttarakhand CM Dhami inaugurates Health ATMs in Dehradun

  • Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a Health ATM installed by JK Tire Limited Company, in association with Yes Bank under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the Secretariat.
  • Apart from the Health ATM at Sachivalaya Dispensary, two more were opened at Vidhan Sabha Dispensary and Tanakpur Hospital.

Amit Shah Unveils 54-Feet-Tall Statue Of Lord Hanuman At Gujarat Temple

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti unveiled a 54-feet-tall statue of Lord Hanuman at Sarangpur temple in Botad district, Gujarat.
  • The statue is built in the backyard of the Sarangpur temple in an area of 1,35,000 square feet.
  • The temple is dedicated to Lord Kastbhanjan, a form of Hanuman.
  • The giant statue weighs around 30,000 kilogram and is visible from a distance of seven kilometre.
  • Five different metals were used in its construction and the total diameter of the statue is 754 feet.
  • The internal structure is made of steel.

Schemes

Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme

  • The Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) scheme is notified in all the States and Union Territories, except in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
  • Out of the 744 districts of the country, the ESI scheme is extended in 610 districts, which include 492 fully covered and 118 partially covered districts under the scheme.
  • At present, there are 160 ESI hospitals across the country, out of which 51 hospitals are run by ESI Corporation directly and 109 hospitals are run by State Governments under the ESI scheme.

Amrit Dharohar and MISHTI Scheme

  • Resources for implementation of the Amrit Dharohar and MISHTI are through convergence of other ongoing schemes/programmes of Central and State Governments.
  • The features of Amrit Dharohar scheme encompass promoting the unique conservation values of wetlands including their optimal use for enhancing biodiversity, carbon stock, ecotourism opportunities and income generation for local communities.
  • Mangrove Initiative for Shoreline Habitats & Tangible Incomes (MISHTI)) envisage to comprehensively explore the possible area for development of Mangroves covering approximately 540 Sq. Kms. spreading across 11 States and 2 Union Territories during five years commencing FY 2023-24 onwards.
  • The sharing of best practices on plantation techniques, conservation measures, management practices and resources mobilization through Public Private Partnership are objectives of the MISHTI scheme.

All Punjab villages declared 'certified Har Ghar Jal'

  • Punjab Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Bram Shanker Jimpa said every village in the state has been declared ‘certified Har Ghar Jal’ under the Jal Jeevan Mission scheme.
  • Every rural household in Punjab now has access to clean and safe drinking water, ensuring improved health and sanitation for millions of residents.

RBI imposes penalty on Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services, Indian Bank

  • The Reserve Bank has imposed a penalty of Rs 6.77 crore on Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Ltd, Mumbai, for non-compliance with norms related to disclosure of interest rates to borrowers at the time of sanction of loans.
  • RBI said a Rs 55 lakh penalty has been imposed on Indian Bank for contravention of certain Know Your Customer (KYC)) norms.
  • A penalty of Rs 10.50 lakh on Muthoot Money Limited, Ernakulam for non-compliance with certain provisions of the ‘Monitoring of Frauds in NBFCs (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2016’, has also been imposed.

South Indian Bank signs bancassurance pact with Chola MS

  • South Indian Bank Ltd. has tied up with Cholamandalam MS General Insurance (Chola MS) to offer the latter’s health and general insurance products to the bank’s customers.
  • This partnership would enable customers of South Indian Bank access the diverse range of insurance products offered by Chola MS thus fulfilling their need for protection against damage/loss.

  • For the first time ever, the Sports Authority of India has integrated Khelo India Games Certificates with DigiLocker, thus allowing Athletes, Support Staff, Technical Officers, Chef de Missions, Competition Manager etc. to access their Khelo India Certificates through the digital platform.
  • The Khelo India Games participating athletes and other stakeholders will now be able to access their certificates of merit and participation from the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 in Madhya Pradesh onwards.
