India’s first semi high-speed regional rail services named ‘RAPIDX’

  • India’s National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has named its first semi-high-speed regional rail services as ‘RAPIDX’.
  • The trains will operate on the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors, which are being implemented to connect key urban nodes across the National Capital Region (NCR).
  • The brand name ‘RAPIDX’ has been chosen because it is easy to read and pronounce in various languages.
  • NCRTC officials stated that the ‘X’ in the name represents next-generation technology and new-age mobility solutions, signifying speed, progress, youth, optimism, and energy.
  • The brand’s aim is to contribute to decarbonisation by decongesting NCR, reducing the number of vehicles on the road, and using green energy.
  • The brand’s logo has a green leaf symbol highlighting the brand’s commitment to decarbonisation.
  • NCRTC is a joint venture between the Union government and the states of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

Centre announces launch of 2 Quality Control Orders for 31 items

  • Ministry of Textiles announced the launch of 02 Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for 31 items consisting of 19 Geo Textiles and 12 Protective Textiles in the Phase-I, following due process of notification of Technical Regulations.
  • These QCOs mark the first technical regulation from India for the Technical Textiles industry informed the Joint Secretary, Shri Rajeev Saxena.
  • Ministry is also planning to issue 02 more QCOs for 28 items in Phase-II, including 22 items of Agro Textiles and 06 items of Medical Textiles.
  • In Phase-III, 30+ more Technical Textiles items may be considered for QCO issuance.
  • QCOs will ensure the standard and quality of Technical Textiles and encourage the growth of this industry in India in producing quality products at competitive pricing.

  • He said that India is at the forefront of promoting sustainable development & building a better ecosystem, and improving the carbon footprint.

Nepal, India to sign cross-border digital payments deal to boost trade

  • Nepal and India are set to sign an agreement for cross-border digital payments using e-wallet, which is expected to boost trade and tourism by eliminating currency hassles.
  • The accord will allow Indian tourists in Nepal to make digital payments using Indian e-wallets like BharatPe, PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm.

  • Shri G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated and laid the foundation for a slew of development projects, virtually from the New Secretariat in Agartala.
  • He inaugurated the Upgradation of the Road Section from Udaipur to Melgarh at the project cost of Rs. 140 Crores and the expansion of Longtharai Valley Sub Divisional Hospital at Chailengta.

PM Modi flags off Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express train

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express train through video conferencing.
  • The train will run between Ajmer and Delhi Cantt.
  • This will be the 14th Vande Bharat Express.

Maharashtra government sanctions Rs 21.9 crores to set up 14 agri projects in Latur

  • The Maharashtra government has sanctioned Rs 21.99 crore to set up 14 agriculture projects in Latur district.
  • Under the project, warehouses, sanitation and grading units and dal mills will be set up at various places in the district.
  • For the development of comprehensive competitive value chains of agricultural products in the state, the government has been implementing the Balasaheb Thackeray Agricultural Business and Rural Transformation (SMART) project.
  • Under the 14 sub-projects to be set up in Latur, a grant of Rs 4.96 crore has been disbursed to six farmer producer companies.

Dehradun-based CSIR-IIP launching One Week One Lab campaign

  • Dehradun-based Indian Institute of Petroleum, one of the premier research laboratories of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), is launching its One Week One Lab (OWOL) campaign from 13 to 19th April.
  • The campaign prominently marks the celebrations of Bharat Ratna Dr B.R Ambedkar’s birth anniversary along with the CSIR-IIP’s 64th foundation day on 14th April at its campus in Dehradun.

Himachal Pradesh launches project Sanjeevani to empower dairy farmers

  • Himachal Pradesh state government has launched a project named Sanjeevani that helps in empowering the livelihood of small dairy farmers and livestock owners because the economy is largely banking on agriculture and animal husbandry.
  • It will enhance the lives of farmers by providing them convenient and quality care for livestock at their doorsteps.
  • Telemedicine and technology will help reducing the turnaround time of services and also arrest outbreaks to one extent.
  • For this a collaboration was signed by the Animal Husbandry Department with Bharat Financial Inclusion Ltd. (BFIL), a subsidiary of IndusInd Bank.
  • The collaboration under National Animal Disease Control Programme-Mobile Veterinary Van (NADCP-AHD-MVU) will enhance the delivery of livestock care at doorsteps at just a phone call.

RBI permits Karnataka Bank to collect direct, indirect taxes

  • The Reserve Bank of India has authorised private sector lender Karnataka Bank to collect direct and indirect taxes on behalf of CBDT and CBIC.
  • This has been done on the recommendation from the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Ministry of Finance, Karnataka Bank.

HDFC Bank signs agreement with Export Import Bank of Korea for ₹300 million credit line

  • HDFC Bank announced signing a “Master Inter Bank Credit Agreement” with Export Import Bank of Korea for a USD 300 million line of credit.
  • The pact was signed by the two entities at GIFT City in Gandhinagar.
  • This agreement will help HDFC Bank raise foreign currency funds which it would extend to Korea-related businesses.

Canara Bank, Bharat BillPay tie up for cross border bill payments for Indian diaspora in Oman

  • Canara Bank and NPCI Bharat BillPay (NBBL) have launched a cross-border inward bill payment service for Indians in Oman.
  • Through the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) platform offered by NBBL and Musandam Exchange, the platform will enable non-resident Indians (NRIs) to conveniently pay bills for their families back home.
  • Canara Bank is the first public sector bank in India to offer inbound cross-border bill payments via BBPS.

IMF cuts India's FY24 GDP forecast to 5.9%

  • The International Monetary Fund pared its forecast for India’s growth to 5.9% from 6.1% for the current fiscal year.

Gold imports dip 30% to $31.8 billion in April-February 2023

  • India’s gold imports, which have a bearing on the current account deficit, fell about 30% to $31.8 billion during April-February 2023 due to high customs duty and global economic uncertainties, according to data from the commerce ministry.
  • Imports of the yellow metal stood at $45.2 billion in the corresponding period of 2021-22.
  • The imports are in the negative zone since August 2022.
  • Silver imports, however, rose by 66% to $5.3 billion during April-February 2023.
  • The merchandise trade deficit for April-February 2022-23 was estimated at $247.52 billion against $172.53 billion in the year-ago period.

UIDAI, IIT Bombay join hands to develop touchless biometric capture system

  • IIT Bombay and Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has partnered to develop a touchless biometric capture system that is easy to use and accessible from anywhere.
  • Under the MoU, UIDAI and IIT Bombay will carry out joint research to build a mobile capture system for fingerprints along with liveness model integrated with the capture system.
  • The collaboration between UIDAI and IIT Bombay through its National Centre of Excellence in Technology for Internal Security (NCETIS) will lead to joint engagement in R&D for development of a system for UIDAI.
  • The NCETIS is a joint initiative by IIT Bombay and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), under its flagship Digital India Programme.
  • The NCETIS is aimed at developing indigenous technology solutions for Internal Security forces in broad areas of Electronic System Design and Manufacturing.

  • Keshub Mahindra, a pioneer of Indian auto industry and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd Chairman Emeritus, died at 99.
  • Keshub had led the Mahindra Group for 48 years as Chairman and expanded it from being an automobile manufacturer to other business segments like IT, real estate, financial services and hospitality.
