121 airports to be made carbon neutral by 2025

  • While addressing the two-day EU-India aviation summit Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia told twenty-five airports in the country are using 100 per cent green energy while another 121 airports will be made carbon neutral by 2025.

Road Ministry to construct 12,500 km of highways in FY24

  • For 2023-24, MoRTH has taken up targets to award 12,000 km and construct 12,500 km of highways in the country.
  • Alka Upadhyaya, Secretary, MoRTH, said Rs 10,000 crore is planned to be raised through Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) mode in FY 2023-24.
  • The ministry has constructed 10,237 kilometres in 2019-20, 13,327 kilometres in 2020-21 and 10,457 kilometres in 2021-22.

NHAI to create around 10,000 km of 'digital highways' by FY25

  • State-owned NHAI is working towards the development of around 10,000 kilometers of Optic Fibre Cables (OFC) infrastructure across the country by FY2024-25.
  • National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a fully-owned special purpose vehicle of NHAI, will implement the network of ”digital highways” by developing integrated utility corridors along the national highways to develop OFC infrastructure.
  • Around 1,367 kilometers on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and 512 km on the Hyderabad-Bangalore corridor have been identified as pilot routes for digital highway development.

India-Thailand Defence Dialogue held in Bangkok

  • India and Thailand held the eighth defence dialogue in Bangkok, which would be co-chaired by India’s Ministry of Defence Special Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma with Deputy Permanent Secretary for Defence, Thailand General Nuchit Sribunsong.

India-UK 2nd Financial Markets Dialogue

  • India and the UK held the second meeting of the India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue in London.
  • Both sides welcomed holding the first in-person financial dialogue since 2017.
  • The Dialogue focused on six themes: Banking, Payments and Cryptoassets, Insurance and reinsurance, Capital Markets, Asset Management, and Sustainable Finance.

Prime Minister Modi inaugurated developmental projects in Rewa

  • Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of a slew of developmental projects, including a house-warming programme for 4.11 lakh beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Gramin Yojna – PMAY (rural).
  • He also laid the foundation stones for various water supply schemes worth Rs 7,573 crore in the Rewa division.
  • On the occasion, Modi will dedicate several railway projects, including 100 per cent electrification of the rail network in Madhya Pradesh, doubling of the railway line on the Bina-Kota section, gauge conversion and electrification of Chhindwara-Nainpur-Mandla Fort rail section, Birla Nagar-Udi Mod Fort and Mahoba-Khajuraho-Udaipura rail section electrification.
  • The prime minister will also flag off three new trains, including Rewa-Itwari via Chhindwara passenger train, Chhindwara-Nainpur and Naipur-Chhindwara trains on the occasion.

Kerala government launched 'One Panchayat, One Playground' project to revive sports culture in State

  • The Kerala government launched a project for reviving the sports culture in the State by opening quality playgrounds in every panchayat of the southern state.
  • The ‘One Panchayat, One Playground’ project was inaugurated by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at Kallikkad.
  • The project will address the lack of quality playgrounds in around 450 local bodies in the State.
  • Within three years, the playgrounds will be built and for the first phase of the project, a list of 113 panchayats has been prepared.
  • Each playground would cost around Rs one crore, half of which would be footed by the Sports department and the rest would be raised from the MLA and local body funds, through CSR, public private partnerships.

Manipur CM inaugurated Hun-Thadou cultural festival at Kangpokpi

  • The 5th edition of HUN- Thadou Cultural Festival 2023 kicked off at Thomas Ground in Kangpokpi district of Manipur.
  • HUN festival is an annual cultural festival and a civilising act of the Thadous community of Manipur and it is celebrated at the arrival of the new year according to the community.

  • 11th Annual Thawe Festival was organised by Department of Tourism and the Department of Art and Culture in Gopalganj, Bihar.

AIIB to open first overseas office in Abu Dhabi

  • Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a host member agreement to officially open the bank’s first overseas office, an Interim Operational Hub (the Hub), in Abu Dhabi.
  • Jin Liqun, President and Chair of the board of directors of AIIB, joined Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and UAE Governor of AIIB, during the signing ceremony in Abu Dhabi.
  • As of today, AIIB has approved 212 projects amounting to over USD 40 billion in 33 member countries, which have contributed to economic development and improved the quality of life for communities in beneficiary countries.

Fasal tied up with SBI to help farmers get easy access to loans

  • Agri-tech company Fasal announced its partnership with State Bank of India (SBI), aimed to provide farmers with easy access to capital.
  • The partnership will help solve cash-flow constraints during key cycles in farming by providing quick, easy, and collateral-free loans at very competitive rates.
  • This ties into Fasal’s larger objective of solving the many challenges across the entire horticulture value chain, thereby paving the way for India’s horticultural transformation.

Federal Bank signed on agri fintech start-up KiVi as Banking Correspondent

  • Federal Bank has entered into a Banking Correspondent agreement with Chennai-based KiVi, an agri fintech start-up operated by Agrosperity Tech Solutions, with a view to scaling and expanding its agri lending portfolio in Tamil Nadu.
  • Federal Bank launched the instant KCC (Kisan Credit Card) platform in September 2022.
  • Claimed to be the first of its kind in agriculture lending, it offers farmers convenience and turnaround time.
  • It aims at providing small-value loans to small and marginal farmers, and is designed to facilitate efficient credit flow to underserved rural populations.
  • KiVi employs a phygital model that combines features of the lending technology platform and the last-mile channel to serve farmer households and MSMEs such as input retailers, output aggregators or other village entrepreneurs.
  • It provides a frictionless and secure customer experience through seamless API integrations with bureaus and other service providers, along with user-friendly WhatsApp journeys.

GST evasion detection nearly doubles to Rs 1.01 lakh crore in FY23

  • GST evasion detection by tax officers almost doubled year-on-year to over Rs 1,01,300 crores in the just concluded 2022-23 fiscal.
  • During the last fiscal, a recovery of Rs 21,000 crores was made by the officers of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI).

Seed Traceability portal and mobile app

  • Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar launched the SATHI (Seed Traceability, Authentication and Holistic Inventory) Portal and Mobile App, a Centralized Online System for seed traceability, authentication and inventory designed to deal with the challenges of seed production, quality seed identification and seed certification.
  • It has been developed by the NIC in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare on the theme of ‘Uttam Beej – Samriddh Kisan’.
  • It is the first phase.
  • The system will consist of integrated 7 verticals of the seed chain – Research Organisation, Seed Certification, Seed Licensing, Seed Catalogue, Dealer to Farmer Sales, Farmer Registration and Seed DBT.

Adani Green Energy got certification from DNV for water conservation

  • Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) had received a recognition for conserving water against consumption.
  • AGEL has been certified Water Positive by DNV, an independent global assurance agency.
  • The verification statement signifies that AGEL’s water conservation is greater than consumption.
  • DNV conducted qualitative and quantitative assessment of water balance index for AGEL’s operational sites having greater than 200 MW capacity in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh.

Bhubaneswar to host 2023 Intercontinental Cup in June

  • A four-team Intercontinental Cup will be held in Bhubaneswar from June 9 to 18.
  • This will be the third edition of the tournament with the previous two being held in Mumbai (2018) and Ahmedabad (2019).
  • India will be joined by Lebanon, Mongolia and Vanuatu in the tournament.
