India’s first health food street launched in Ujjain

  • Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the India’s first health food street, Prasadam.
  • The food street at Neelkanth Van, Mahakal Lok in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh will be the first of 100 food streets that will come up in as many districts across the country.
  • Ujjain is famous for the world-famous Mahakal Temple.

International trade fair on millets and organics sees business transactions of ₹170 crore

  • The three-day international trade fair on millets and organics which was inaugurated Karnataka Chief Minister was concluded in Bengaluru saw total business transactions of ₹170 crores.
  • This includes B2B transactions of ₹150 crores and transactions in stalls amounting to ₹20 crores.
  • The main intention of the annual fair was to provide a common platform for all stakeholders in the sector of millets and organics to boost exports of the State’s millets and organic produce.
  • The B2B business agreements were pertaining to transaction of 17,192 MTs of produce, the officials point out.
  • In all, the trade fair witnessed 213 B2B meetings and signing of 41 letters of Intents/MoUs.
  • The business transactions were pertaining to all varieties of millets, Byadagi chillies, spices, organic jaggery, turmeric powder, and organic vegetables.
  • The fair witnessed a huge demand for millets value-added products like cookies, malts, millets powder, ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat items etc.
  • It also saw the participation of delegates from various States besides other countries including Australia, the U.A.E., Kenya, and Kuwait.
  • In all, the fair had 310 stalls, including 100 under the Karnataka pavilion that were dedicated to farmers, research institutes, and FPOs.
  • It also saw the participation of 35 start-ups engaged in millets and organics business.

National Mega Conclave on “PACS as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra”

  • Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah and Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers & Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya addressed the National Mega Conclave on “PACS as Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra”.
  • The conclave was organised with the motto “Sahakar – se – Samriddhi” to highlight the major initiatives taken by the Ministry of Cooperation and progress achieved so far.
  • As per the new model byelaws adopted by the Ministry of Cooperation, the scope of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) has been widened beyond their original function of dealing with agricultural credits in the grassroot level.
  • PACS are now empowered to access many other avenues like opening of Jan Aushadhi Kendras.

India’s first 31-meter U-girder successfully cast for Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project

  • The casting yard in Devanahalli, Bengaluru for the first time in the country, a 31-metre, single-span U-girder was successfully cast for the Bengaluru Suburban Rail Project (BSRP).
  • So far 28-metre U- girders have been used in other metro projects.

  • Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri inaugurated the Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra at Mankara Panchayat in Palakkad district, Kerala.
  • “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra” is a nation-wide campaign the Government of India, with participation of States and Union Territories, is actively engaged in the mission of saturation through its flagship schemes for providing basic amenities like sanitation facilities, essential financial services, access to LPG connections, housing for the poor, food security, proper nutrition, reliable healthcare, clean drinking water, quality education and making required services accessible to all targeted and eligible beneficiaries.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates CDSCO Sub Zonal Office and Central Drug Testing Laboratory in Indore, Madhya Pradesh

  • Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare inaugurated the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) Sub Zonal office and Central Drug Testing Laboratory (CDTL) in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.
  • He also laid the foundation stone for various facilities in AIIMS Bhopal and inaugurated a slew of other facilities in Madhya Pradesh which includes 190 Pharmaceutical Industries, 55 WHO-GMP Complied Manufacturing Units, 163 Blood Centres, 12 Manufacturing Units having Written Confirmation, 12 Large Volume Parenteral Units, 9 Private Drugs Testing Laboratory, 1 Vaccine Manufacturing Unit and a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Facility in

Rajasthan government renames 'Indira Rasoi Yojana' to 'Shree Annapurna Rasoi Yojana'

    • The BJP-led government in Rajasthan, under Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, has renamed the Indira Rasoi Yojana to Shree Annapurna Rasoi Yojana.
    • Initially launched by former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, this food security scheme aims to provide subsidised meals to the people.
    • The order also states that the weight of the subsidised meal per plate has been increased to 600 grams under the new name.
    • In addition to the name change, the government grant per plate has been raised from ₹17 to ₹22.

SBI raises $250 million via Green Bonds

    • State Bank of India (SBI) had completed the placement of $250 million senior unsecured Green floating rate notes, referred to as ‘The Green Notes’.
    • This issuance, maturing on December 29, 2028, is part of SBI’s $10 billion medium-term note program and was conducted through a private placement facilitated by its London branch.
    • The Green Notes rated BBB- by S&P, were issued on a floating rate basis of 20% above SOFR and has been listed on the India International Exchange.
    • The proceeds will be allocated to eligible green projects according to the bank’s ESG Financing Framework.

India signed Haj agreement with Saudi Arabia with over 1.75 lakh pilgrim quota for 2024

  • Minority Affairs Minister Smriti Irani accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan signed the Bilateral Haj Agreement 2024 with Saudi Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfiq bin Fawzan in Jeddah.
  • A total quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims from India has been finalised for Haj 2024 with 1,40,020 seats being reserved for pilgrims to proceed through Haj Committee whereas 35,005 pilgrims would be permitted to proceed through private operators.

Aditya-L1 reached its destination of Lagrange Point 1

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation’s inaugural solar mission, Aditya-L1, has reached its destination within the anticipated four-month timeframe.
  • It was launched on September 2 2023, the spacecraft positioned itself at Lagrange Point 1, from where it will undertake a comprehensive study of the sun, focusing on the solar corona and its influence on space weather.
  • The satellite covered approximately 5 million kilometers (930,000 miles) over the span of four months, just a fraction of the Earth-sun distance of 150 million kilometers.
  • The Lagrange Point, where the satellite is stationed, benefits from gravitational forces that allow objects to remain relatively stationary, reducing fuel consumption for the spacecraft.
  • Equipped with seven payloads, Aditya-L1 is slated to conduct remote sensing of the sun and in-situ observations for an estimated five years.

Electrostatic sprayer developed by KAU scientists gets patent

  • A novel electrostatic sprayer developed by Dipak Suresh Khatawkar, Chief Minister’s Navakerala Post Doctoral research fellow, Dhalin D., Professor, Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering (FMPE) of Kerala Agricultural University, and Shaji James P., retired Professor of FMPE department received the patent.
  • This invention promises superior deposition efficiency and higher biological efficiency compared to the traditional sprayers.
  • This novel technology eliminates over-spraying of chemical, which contaminates soil and waterbodies to a greater extent, and restrict environment hazards.
  • Being fully electric sprayer, it has very few mechanical components, which makes less noise and vibration, offering better operator comfort, reducing maintenance and provides longer operational life.

  • The tiger population in Uttarakhand has increased at a rate of 314% between 2006 and 2022.
  • The tiger population which stood at 178 in 2006 rose to 560 in 2022, recording a rise of 314%.

ACC acquires 55% stake in Asian Concretes and Cements

  • ACC Limited, a subsidiary of Ambuja Cements Limited, acquired a 55 per cent stake in Asian Concretes and Cements Private Limited (ACCPL) for ₹775 crores.
  • The remaining 45 per cent stake in ACCPL was acquired from its existing promoter, resulting in ACC’s complete ownership of ACCPL.
  • ACCPL, along with its subsidiary Asian Fine Cements Private Limited (AFCPL), contributes to a total cement capacity of 8 Million Tonnes Per Annum (MTPA).
  • This move increases ACC’s cement capacity to 55 MTPA.
  • Together with its parent company Ambuja, the overall cement capacity reaches 10 MPTA.

Sheikh Hasina re-elected for fifth term as Prime Minister of Bangladesh

  • Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina swept to a fourth straight term as Prime Minister.
  • The daughter of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, founding father of Bangladesh who was killed in an army coup in 1975 along with most members of the family.
  • She first became prime minister in 1996 and this will be her fifth term overall.

RBI turns down Federal Bank MD & CEO extension request for one year

  • The Reserve Bank of India has turned down a proposal from Federal Bank seeking an extension of its MD & CEO Shyam Srinivasan for one year.
  • He took charge in 2010, was eligible to continue for one more year.
  • According to RBI norms, a CEO can continue in a bank for 15 years, in case the person is not a promoter.
  • His current term expires on September 22 2024.
