Centre urges States to adopt Aadhaar-based payment system for MGNREGS workers to avoid wage delays

  • With reports on wage payments to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) workers failing due to frequent changes in the bank account numbers of the beneficiaries, the Union government has urged State governments to ensure that the Aadhaar-based payment system (ABPS) is enabled.

  • The third meeting of the International Financial Architecture Working Group (IFAWG) of G20 held in Goa.
  • The first meeting was held in Chandigarh and second meeting was held in Paris.
  • The 3rd G20 Health Working Group Meeting held in Hyderabad, Telangana.

MoS Muraleedharan inaugurated eco-tourism zone in Maldives' Addu City

  • Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan, who kickstarted his Maldives, inaugurated an eco-tourism zone in Addu City.
  • He was joined by the Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdullah Shahid during the inauguration of the Hithadhoo eco-tourism zone in the Addu City of Maldives.

India's first carbon neutral village being developed in Bhiwandi Taluka of Thane district

  • Union Minister of State Kapil Patil said, India’s first carbon neutral Village is being developed in Bhiwandi Taluka of Thane district.
  • As much as 121 tribal villages are being developed as model villages.

Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated four projects worth Rs 1450 Crore in Assam

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the 4-Lane Section between Nagaon Bypass-Teliagaon, and Teliagaon-Rangagara and laid the foundation for Mangaldai Bypass and the 4-lane section between Daboka-Parakhuwa in Assam through video conferencing.
  • These 4 projects are worth 1450 Crores symbolizing a significant investment in the state’s infrastructure.
  • The 18 Km long 4-Lane section between Nagaon Bypass-Teliagaon and Teliagaon-Rangagara is worth Rs 403 Crore.
  • The foundation for the construction of a 15 Km bypass in Mangaldai on NH 15 with a total cost of 535 Crores will strengthen the link between Assam, West Bengal, and Arunachal Pradesh, fostering seamless travel and regional integration.
  • The foundation for a 13 Km long bypass between Daboka and Parakhuwa on NH-29 with a total cost of 517 Crores strengthens connections along the Guwahati-Dimapur Economic Corridor, fostering links to Myanmar and Thailand.
  • The bypass will enhance inter-regional connectivity between Assam and Nagaland.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated 'Lavender Festival' in J-K's Bhaderwah

  • Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated the two-day ”Lavender Festival” in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhaderwah Valley and said the Union Territory has emerged as the lavender capital of India and a prominent agri-startup destination.
  • The festival has been organised by the CSIR-IIIM and is part of the institution’s ‘One Week One Lab Campaign’.
  • It showcases the remarkable progress made in lavender cultivation and its impact on the local community.

Godhan Nyaya Yojana

  • Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will transfer a total amount Rs 20.18 crore to the beneficiaries of Godhan Nyaya Yojana in a program organised at his residence office in Raipur.
  • This includes Rs 4.91 crore to rural cattle herders, Rs 8.98 crore to Gauthan committees and Rs 6.29 crore to self-help groups in lieu of cow dung purchased in Gauthans from May 16 to May 31.

Maharashtra government signed MoU with Bajaj Finserv to invest Rs 5,000 crore in Pune

  • The Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding – MoU with Bajaj Finserv in Mumbai.
  • Under this MoU, the non-banking finance company will invest 5,000 crore rupees in Pune which is expected to create 40,000 jobs.

RBL Bank launched ACE Fixed Deposit Scheme with 8.5% interest

  • To provide better saving options for customers, RBL bank introduced its ACE Fixed Deposit scheme with an interest of up to 8.50 per cent.
  • The new saving scheme can be taken for a tenure of 12 months to 20 years.
  • The new scheme will provide more options for customers in terms of banks and rewards.
  • Under the scheme, the bank is offering 20 bps higher rate of interest, over and above the regular callable deposits (Fixed Deposit with premature withdrawal).
  • Moreover, senior citizens and super senior citizens getting 50 bps and 75 bps higher interest rate respectively.
  • The minimum deposit value of the FD scheme is ₹50 lakh and maximum deposit value is ₹2 crores.

UAE to Host World's Largest Conservation Conference in 2025

  • The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has won the bid to host the 2025 World Conservation Congress (WCC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
  • The WCC is the world’s largest and most important gathering of conservationists, and it is expected to draw more than 10,000 delegates from over 160 countries.
  • The UAE has a long history of environmental protection, and it is home to a number of important conservation initiatives, including the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Center and the Al Ain Oasis.
  • The 2025 WCC will be held in Abu Dhabi from October 10-21, 2025.
  • The event will be an opportunity for conservationists from around the world to come together and discuss the most pressing environmental challenges facing our planet.
  • The WCC is also expected to produce a number of important resolutions and recommendations that will help to guide future conservation efforts.
  • The IUCN WCC in 2025 in Abu Dhabi is expected to bring an estimated 10,000-15,000 delegates from over 160 countries across the globe and will be an event which could galvanise conservation actions to protect our planet, amid local and global challenges.

Tata Power Renewable Energy commissioned 110 MW solar project at Bikaner, Rajasthan

  • Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has commissioned a 110 mega watt (MW) solar energy project at Bikaner, in Rajasthan.
  • A subsidiary of Tata Power, TPREL, is one of the major renewable energy players in the country.
  • The project will supply 110 MW green power to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB).

UAE won Presidency of World Meteorological Organization

  • A meteorologist of United Arab Emirates (UAE) Dr Abdulla Al Mandous has been elected as the new President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) for a four-year term from 2023 to 2027.
  • The WMO is an authoritative body within the UN system that focuses on weather, climate, hydrological, and related environmental fields.
  • He will succeed Prof Gerhard Adrian from the German Meteorological Service, who served as WMO President since June 2019.
  • Under Dr. Al Mandous’ leadership, WMO’s upcoming 77th Executive Council Session (EC-77) will be chaired by the UAE in Geneva from 5th to 6th June.

Loved mother of Bollywood, Sulochana Latkar passed away

  • Sulochana Latkar, a name which somewhere became synonymous with the role, especially in the era of the 70s and 80s passed away at 94.
  • Born on July 30, 1928, in Khadaklat village of Chikodi taluk of Belgaum district in Karnataka, she made her acting debut in 1946.
  • ‘Sasurvas’ in 1946, ‘Vahinichya Bangdya’, ‘Meeth Bhakar’, ‘Sangtye Aika’, ‘Laxmi Ali Ghara’, ‘Moti Manse’, ‘Jivacha Sakha’, ‘Pativrata’, ‘Sukhache Sobti’, ‘Bhaubheej’, ‘Akashganga’, and ‘Dhakti Jau’ were among the Marathi films in which she starred as the lead actress from 1946 to 1961.
  • Throughout her career in Hindi cinema, she frequently appeared opposite Nazir Hussain, Trilok Kapoor, and Ashok Kumar.

Flanders Cup 2023 Athletics

  • Top Indian sprinter Amlan Borgohain bagged two gold medals, one each in the men’s 100 and 200-meter races at the Flanders Cup 2023 athletics meet, known as the International Antwerp Athletics Gala, in Merksem, Belgium.
  • Borgohain clocked 10.70 seconds to emerge as the fastest man of the meet.
  • He holds the 100-meter national record of 10.25 seconds.
  • In the 200 meter, the 25-year-old Borgohain clocked 20.96 seconds to emerge winner ahead of Hofman 21.42 and Jamaica’s Samuel Rowe 21.88.

Asian U20 Athletics Championship

  • India’s Rezoana Mallick Heena won India’s first gold medal in the women’s 400m event at the Asian U20 Athletics Championship in Yecheon, South Korea.
  • Bharatpreet Singh clinched India’s second gold in the tournament with a 55.66m throw in the men’s discus throw event.
  • Antima Pal won bronze in the women’s 5000m race.

255-member strong contingent to represent India at Special Olympics World Summer Games

  • India will be represented by a strong 255-member contingent at the Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held in Berlin, Germany from June 17 to 25.
  • The contingent includes 198 athletes, who will participate in 16 disciplines, and unified partners and 57 coaches.
  • The Special Olympics World Games are the world’s largest inclusive sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities.
  • A total of 700 athletes and unified partners across 190 countries will compete in 26 disciplines in Berlin.
  • Before their departure for Berlin on June 12, the Indian athletes will participate in a preparatory camp at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from June 7 to 11.
