Comoros and Timor-Leste were the new members of World Trade Organization (WTO)

  • During the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference (MC13) held in Abu Dhabi, Ministers formally approved the WTO membership terms of Comoros and Timor-Leste.
  • The Conference was chaired by H. Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, UAE’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade.
  • The Ministerial Conference brought together nearly 4,000 ministers, senior trade officials and other delegates from the WTO’s 164 members and observers as well as representatives from civil society, business and the global media.

France becomes the only country to explicitly guarantee abortion as a constitutional right

  • French lawmakers overwhelmingly approved a bill to enshrine abortion rights in France’s constitution, making it the only country to explicitly guarantee a woman’s right to voluntarily terminate a pregnancy.
  • The historic move was proposed by President Emmanuel Macron as a way to prevent the kind of rollback of abortion rights seen in the United States in recent years, and the vote during a special joint session of parliament drew a long-standing ovation among lawmakers.
  • The measure was approved in a 780-72 vote in the Palace of Versailles.

Prime Minister laid foundation stones for various development projects in Telangana & Odisha

  • He also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple developmental projects worth ₹19,600 crore in Chandikhol, Jajpur district of Odisha including oil and gas, railways, road, transport, national highways and atomic energy.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple developmental projects in Telangana’s Adilabad, totaling more than ₹56,000 crores more than 30 development projects in the power, rail, and road sectors and also development projects worth more than ₹6,800 crores in Sangareddy district of Telangana.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates 3 new CIPET at Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh

  • Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilisers and Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya virtually inaugurated 3 centers of Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) established in Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh from New Delhi.
  • These three new CIPET centres dedicated to the nation by the Minister are CSTS Baddi (Himachal Pradesh), CSTS, Ranchi (Jharkhand), and CSTS Gwalior (MP).
  • The Union Health Minister also inaugurated the 27th convocation of Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth, the 29th National Seminar on ‘Ayurvedo Amritanam’ and launched the AYUSH-ICMR Advanced Centre for Integrated Health Research in AIIMS.

Schemes

Himachal Pradesh - ‘Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana’

  • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu announced that under ‘Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana’, all the women above 18 years of age of the State will be given ₹1,500 per month.
  • The financial assistance will be given during the ongoing financial year, which will put an additional financial burden of about ₹800 crores annually on the State exchequer.
  • Around 5 lakh women were expected to benefit from the scheme.
  • The decision reflects the government’s sensitivity towards women and the amount would aid in their financial and social upliftment.
  • The government was already providing ₹1,500 to all the women of district Lahaul-Spiti and to all women of the State aged above 60 years since February 2024, under the scheme.

Delhi - Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana

  • The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi announced the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana in the Budget for 2024-25 under which every woman over 18 years will receive an honorarium of ₹1,000 a month.
  • The scheme will exclude tax payers, beneficiaries of government pension schemes and government employees.
  • Around 45-50 lakh women voters will benefit from this scheme.

Tata Power subsidiary renews partnership with Union Bank for rooftop solar scheme

  • Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has announced the renewal of its partnership with Union Bank of India (UBI) to offer financing solutions for solar projects, in line with the government’s PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
  • With loan limits extended up to ₹15 lakh for residential customers and ₹16 crore for commercial and industrial (C&I) customers, the renewed scheme plans to provide financing up to 80 per cent and 85 per cent, respectively.
  • They will have access to collateral-free financing options for easy transition to solar energy.
  • The loan tenure has also been extended up to 10 years.
  • The renewed three-year agreement includes both residential and C&I segments.

Infibeam Avenues gets RBI's authorisation for payment aggregator licence

  • India’s first listed AI-powered fintech company, Infibeam Avenues, received the final authorisation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to operate as a payment aggregator for its payment gateway brand, CCAvenue.
  • The company had earlier launched the CCAvenue mobile app, which features India’s first pin-on-glass SoftPoS solution – CCAvenue TapPay for Merchants and Kiranas across the country.

L&T commissions indigenously built hydrogen electrolyser in Gujarat

  • Larsen & Toubro (L&T) commissioned its first indigenously manufactured electrolyser at the Green Hydrogen Plant at A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex in Hazira, Gujarat.
  • The electrolyser can produce 200 Nm3/Hr of hydrogen and is equipped with two stacks and an Electrolyser Processing Unit (EPU) ML-400, which is indigenously manufactured and assembled.
  • It offers flexibility and thermal stability.

  • Ministry of Defence has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BEML Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI) for indigenous development of Advanced Fuelling and Control System for Engines for heavy duty applications.
  • The MoU was inked with Chairman & Managing Director, BEML Limited Shantanu Roy; CMD, MIDHANI Dr SK Jha; and CMD, BEL Shri Bhanu Prakash Srivastava.
  • This collaborative initiative will focus on leveraging indigenous capabilities to design, test, and manufacture an Advanced Fuelling and Control System that offers enhanced efficiency, performance, and reliability.
  • By harnessing the latest advancements in engine technology and control systems, the companies aim to extend their domain expertise for development of engine systems which will ensure self-reliance in the field of Combat vehicles.
  • The MoU corroborates the resolve of the Government to develop complex technologies within the country under the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.

ISRO’s EOS-6 satellite enables precise air quality monitoring

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has developed and validated an Ocean Colour Monitor (OCM-3) Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD)
  • This data product enables determining the intricacies of air quality dynamics over the landmass of the Indian subcontinent.
  • It is developed using the SAC Aerosol Retrieval (SAER) algorithm, an innovative tool.
  • It utilises EOS-6 satellite data.
  • This advancement is enabled by the 1 km spatial resolution of the OCM-3 onboard EOS-6.
  • The satellite EOS-6, launched in November 2022, is equipped with a state-of-the-art OCM sensor, marking a significant leap in the ability to monitor atmospheric aerosols.
  • OCM-3 AOD product data provides unprecedented insights into aerosol concentrations across the Indian landmass.

RBI approves merger of Fincare and AU Small Finance Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has sanctioned the Scheme of Amalgamation of Fincare Small Finance Bank Ltd. (Transferor Bank) with AU Small Finance Bank Ltd. (Transferee Bank).
  • The effective date of the amalgamation shall be April 01, 2024.
  • All the branches of Fincare Small Finance Bank Ltd. will function as branches of AU Small Finance Bank Ltd. with effect from April 01, 2024.

Khelo India University Games 2024

  • The 4th edition of Khelo India University Games was held on February 2024, across the seven Indian north-eastern states.
  • A total of 770 medals – 240 gold, 240 silver and 290 bronze – were on offer at the 11-day meet.
  • Over 200 Indian universities competed for the KIUG 2024 title with around 4,500 athletes taking part in 20 sports.
