Digital Advertisement Policy, 2023

  • The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has approved a path breaking “Digital Advertisement Policy, 2023 to enable and empower the Central Bureau of Communication which is the advertising wing of the Government of India to undertake campaigns in the Digital Media Space.
  • This policy marks a pivotal moment in CBC’s mission to disseminate information and create awareness regarding various schemes, programs, and policies of the Government of India in response to the evolving media landscape and the increased digitalization of media consumption.
  • The huge subscriber base in the Digital Universe, coupled with technology enabled messaging options through Digital advertisements will facilitate effective delivery of citizen centric message in a targeted manner, resulting in cost efficiencies in public oriented campaigns.

National SC-ST hub mega conclave for entrepreneurs

  • The Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) organized a Mega Conclave at Shillong, Meghalaya to promote entrepreneurship culture and spread awareness of National SC-ST Hub and other schemes of the Ministry.
  • A special technical session with CPSEs, Banks and lending institutions was also held providing an interactive platform for aspiring and existing SC-ST entrepreneurs.
  • The CPSEs like Powergrid, NEEPCO, FCI, IOCL and Hindustan Steel Works Construction gave presentations on their vendor empanelment process and shared the details of products/services that can be procured from SC-ST owned MSEs.
  • The program also had financial institutions such as SIDBI, Canara Bank, HDFC bank, Meghalaya Rural Bank, IndusInd Bank, IFDC etc, which detailed various lending schemes pertaining to the MSME sector.
  • Other Government bodies like NSFDC and GeM also participated in the program and deliberated on their schemes for MSMEs.
  • The program included facilitation desks of CSC Shillong for PM Vishwakarma enrollment and UDYAM Registration for facilitating the registration of SC/ST MSEs participants on the spot.

NHAI accepted first insurance surety bond as bid security

  • National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the first time, it has accepted an insurance surety bond for the monetisation programme of the upcoming bid of Toll Operate Transfer (TOT) Bundle 14.
  • This will be the first time this innovative instrument is being utilised as a bank guarantee (BG) in the road infrastructure sector for monetisation of bids.
  • NHAI has been working closely with Highway Operators Association of India (HOAI), SBI General Insurance and AON India Insurance to implement this initiative.
  • Insurance surety bond has been issued for NHAI monetisation bid of TOT bundle 14 at 0.25% by the insurer without any margin money.
  • This will translate into big savings for concessionaires, which will further enhance liquidity in the market, thereby fostering an environment conducive to the growth and development of the road sector.

APEDA facilitated export of first trial shipment of fresh bananas to Netherlands

  • Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitated the export of the first trial shipment of fresh bananas to the Netherlands in a significant boost to the prospects of fresh fruit exports.
  • The trial shipment of bananas to Europe was carried out by the APEDA-registered ‘INI Farms – a top exporter of fruits and vegetables from India.
  • The first export consignment of bananas to the Netherlands was flagged off by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev from Baramati, Maharashtra.

AGS Transact Technologies received an order for 1,350 ATMs from SBI

  • AGS Transact Technologies Limited, an integrated omni-channel payment solutions provider, announced that it has won an order for 1,350 ATMs from the State Bank of India (SBI).
  • As of September 30, 2023, AGS Transact Technologies Limited has installed, managed, or maintained 77,658 ATMs/CRMs across 2,200 cities and towns in India.

Moody’s GDP Prediction

  • Moody’s expected India’s GDP (gross domestic product) to grow 6.7% in 2023, 6.1% in 2024 and 6.3% in 2025.
  • The Indian economy expanded 7.8% in the first quarter of the current fiscal (Q1FY24), up from 6.1% in the previous quarter on higher government spending, coupled with increased private capital expenditure and strong services growth.

ICRISAT joined hands with Assam Millet Mission

  • The International Crop Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) and Assam have joined hands to collaborate on climate-resilient and nutritionally enhanced food systems through the Assam Millet Mission.
  • The collaboration would focus on the State’s target to boost the cultivation, production and consumption of three native millet crops – finger millet, foxtail millet, and proso millet.

2nd unicorn in 2023

  • InCred Finance, the lending arm of InCred Group, has successfully raised ₹500 crore in its Series D funding round, achieving unicorn status with a valuation of approximately ₹8,800 crore or $1.05 billion.
  • The funding, which makes InCred the second startup to join the unicorn club in 2023 after Zepto, involved participation from global private equity funds, corporate treasuries, family offices, and high-net-worth individuals.
  • InCred, established in 2016 as a tech-enabled lending platform, manages a loan book of ₹7,500 crore and aspires to be integral to every Indian family’s financial goals.

Exchange of MoUs between IIT Kanpur, Indian Institute of Skills, Kanpur, HAL and Dassault Aircraft Services India

  • Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Kanpur announced 3 key partnerships with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Dassault Aircraft Services India (DASI) aligned with the objectives of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), which is to empower and prepare the local youth for the aerospace and defence sector particularly to support the Defence Industrial Corridor in Uttar Pradesh.
  • The MoUs were exchanged in the esteemed presence of Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship in New Delhi.
  • The partnerships focus on the holistic development of youth, especially those in Uttar Pradesh, giving them access to quality modules in new-age courses in Aviation and Defence sectors.
  • This is the first time ever that as envisaged under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, we are witnessing a collaboration between education, skilling and leading industries to build the capabilities of IIS Kanpur.
  • The vision behind setting up IIS is to build world-class skill training centres by learning from and imbibing best practices from internationally renowned existing skill institutions. And the designed courses have been put together in consultation with the subject matter experts from the most respected institution of the country IIT, Kanpur.
  • The planned modules will provide knowledge around Industry 4.0 courses such as AI, Machine Learning, Cloud Computing, Data Analytics, Advance Manufacturing, Krishi 2.0 Smart Agriculture, Robotics and Automation and more.
  • Under another strategic partnership with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), HAL will develop a training infrastructure for a CNC lab at the new IIS Kanpur building as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
  • This initiative aims to offer IIS Kanpur’s faculties and trainees exposure to advanced CNC machining technology while also facilitating training, re-skilling, and up-skilling for the target group.
  • Further, the partnership envisioned with the Dassault Aviation will help commence a course in Aeronautical Structure and Equipment Fitter (AS&EF) at IIS for providing long-term training in the aviation sector in Kanpur.
  • As a part of the partnership, Dassault Aviation Centre of Excellence is being set up for Aeronautical Vocational Training in the IIS building in the Kanpur Campus.

NIT Calicut signed MoU with Indian Institute of Spices Research

  • The National Institute of Technology Calicut has inked a memorandum of understanding with the ICAR-Indian Institute of Spices Research to promote research and education in the agriculture sector.
  • The MoU will promote collaboration between the two premier institutions located in Kozhikode.
  • The MoU was signed by Prasad Krishna, Director of NIT Calicut, and R. Dinesh, Director of ICAR-IISR.

MAHE certified as Centre of Excellence in life sciences sector

  • The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has been certified as a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences by the Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSSDC), New Delhi.
  • Nivedita M, Senior Director of Assessment, Accreditation and Certification at LSSSDC, presented the Certificate of Excellence to Lt Gen M.D. Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, in Manipal.
  • A memorandum of understanding (MoU) for future skilling activities for students and faculty in the life sciences sector was signed by MAHE and LSSSDC on the occasion.
  • Centre for Pharmaceutical Skill Development (CPSD) at MAHE played a pivotal role in helping MAHE earn this distinction.

Government approved DPRs of 2 SJVN projects in Arunachal Pradesh

  • SJVN Ltd said the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has given its approval to the company’s detailed project reports (DPRs) for two hydro projects worth around Rs 40,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • While the Etalin hydroelectric power (HEP) is of 3,097 MW, the Attunli HEP is of 680 MW.

ICICI Bank got RBI nod to make ICICI Securities wholly-owned subsidiary

  • ICICI Bank said ICICI Securities will be its wholly owned subsidiary following the approval of the Reserve Bank of India.
  • The ICICI Bank on June 29 had approved a proposal to delist ICICI Securities and become a wholly-owned subsidiary of the bank after delisting.
  • ICICI Securities, promoted by ICICI Bank, is the country’s leading retail-led equity franchise, distributor of financial products and investment bank.

CP Gurnani will step down as director of Tech Mahindra

  • CP Gurnani, the managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) of Tech Mahindra, will step down as the non-executive, non-independent director of the IT major on December 21.
  • He is also set to retire as the MD and CEO of Tech Mahindra on December 19.
  • Along with Gurnani, Vijay Kumar will also step down as the non-executive, non-independent director of the company on December 20.
  • This is due to the withdrawal of his nomination by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) upon his attaining the age of 65 years.

Additional secretary of Ministry of Power and New and Renewable Energy

  • Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer N. Srikant has been appointed as the additional secretary of the Union Ministry of Power and New and Renewable Energy.
  • Mr. Srikant was transferred as a joint secretary in the Union Cabinet last year, before which he was Secretary (Energy) in the Government of Andhra Pradesh and held various other positions, including the first Commissioner of AP Capital Region Development Authority.
  • A 1998-batch officer of the All India Services, Mr. Srikant was also Chairman and Managing Director of AP-Transco.

World Health Organization report on TB

  • The WHO Global Tuberculosis Report 2023 released said that around 87% of the world’s total cases in 2022 emerged from 30 high TB-burden countries, with two-third of the cases registered from eight countries.
  • India with 27% ranked highest, followed by Indonesia (10%), China (7.1%), the Philippines (7%), Pakistan (5.7%), Nigeria (4.5%), Bangladesh (3.6%) and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (3%).
  • In India, 2.8 million cases of TB were registered and of them, 342,000 people (12%) died due to the disease.

ICC Board suspended Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership of ICC

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board has suspended Sri Lanka Cricket’s membership of the ICC with immediate effect.
  • ICC Board met and determined that Sri Lanka Cricket is in serious breach of its obligations as a Member, in particular, the requirement to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and/or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.

National Games 2023

  • Maharashtra topped the National Games 2023 medals tally with 228 medals  80 gold, 69 silvers and 79 bronze to win the Raja Bhalindra Singh Trophy, which is given to the team that wins the most number of gold medals at the National Games.
  • Maharashtra last topped the National Games medals table back in 1994.
  • The National Games 2023, India’s own multi-sport event inspired by the Olympics, was held in five cities in Goa – Mapusa, Margao, Panjim, Ponda and Vasco.
  • Athletes from 28 states, eight Union Territories and Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) competed at the 37th National Games.
  • Goa hosted the event for the first time in its history.

Indian Navy Sailing Championship (INSC) 2023

  • The Indian Navy Sailing Championship (INSC) 2023 was conducted at Indian Naval Watermanship Training Center (INWTC), Mumbai under aegis of Indian Naval Sailing Association (INSA) based at Naval Headquarters.
  • The event is an inter Command championship.
  • This edition witnessed participation from more than 100 personnel from all three naval Commands comprising of officers, sailors (including agniveers) and cadets.
  • The championship was conducted in five different classes of boats namely ILCA 7 for men, ILCA 6 for women, BicNova Wind surf boards, Laser Bahia (team racing), and J-24 (match racing) class of boat.
  • A total of 37 races were conducted over a span of four days in three different formats of racing.
  • The Overall Championship Trophy was awarded to the Western Naval Command whereas Southern Naval Command and Eastern Naval Command teams stood runners up and second runners up respectively.
  • INSA conducts INSC annually to scout talent and encourage participation by budding naval personnel in sport of sailing.

  • Since 2008, National Education Day has been celebrated.

National Ayurveda Day 2023

  • Ayurveda Day, also known as National Ayurveda Day, is observed every year in India and worldwide on the occasion of the birthday of Dhanvantari, the Hindu god of medicine.
  • In 2023, Ayurveda Day is being observed on November 10 2023.
  • In Puranas he was mentioned as the god of Ayurveda.
  • In 2016, the Government of India’s Ministry of AYUSH declared the birth anniversary of Dhanvantari as National Ayurveda Day.
  • The first Ayurveda Day was first celebrated on 28 October 2016.
  • In October 2016, on Ayurveda Day, the first All India Institute of Ayurveda was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
  • Theme for Ayurveda day-2023 is ‘Ayurveda for One Health’ with Tag line ‘Ayurveda for everyone on every day’ i.e., ‘Har din har kisi ke liye Ayurveda’ focusing on human-animal-plant-environment interface.”

BONGOSAGAR-23 & CORPAT between India and Bangladesh

  • The 4th edition of Bilateral Exercise between Indian Navy and Bangladesh Navy, BONGOSAGAR-23, and the 5th edition of Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) by the two navies was conducted in the Northern Bay of Bengal.
  • Ships and aircraft from both navies undertook joint patrolling along the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL), and subsequently conducted maritime exercises to enhance interoperability.
  • Indian Navy Ships Kuthar, Kiltan and Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) Dornier participated in the exercise along with Bangladesh Navy Ships Abu Bakr, Abu Ubaidah and MPA.
  • The ships undertook communication drills, surface gun-shoots, tactical manoeuvres and other exercises that culminated with a steam past.
  • CORPAT-23 also included the maiden Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) drills conducted between the two navies wherein a Search and Rescue scenario at sea was exercised.
  • INS Kuthar is an indigenously built guided-missile Corvette, whereas INS Kiltan is an indigenously built anti-submarine Corvette.
  • Both ships are part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet based at Visakhapatnam, which functions under the operational command of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
