Pre-National Conference Webinar on ‘BRSR: Tracking the journey of non-financial disclosures by businesses in India’

Government approved 27 manufacturers under PLI Scheme – 2.0 For IT Hardware

  • The Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had approved PLI Scheme – 2.0 for IT hardware.
  • This scheme covers laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, Servers and Ultra Small Form Factor devices.
  • Applications of 27 IT hardware manufacturers have been approved.
  • IT hardware of well-known brands such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc will be manufactured in India.
  • The expected outcomes of this approval, over the tenure of the scheme are as follows:
  • Employment: 2 lakhs50,000 (direct) and 5 lakh (indirect)
  • Value of IT hardware production: 3 lakh 50 thousand crore rupees (42 billion US dollars)
  • Investment by companies: 3,000 crore rupees (360 million US dollars)
  • The Production Linked Incentive Scheme (PLI) was launched in March 2020, the scheme initially targeted three industries: Mobile and allied Component Manufacturing, Electrical Component Manufacturing and Medical Devices.
  • Currently there are 14 sectors which includes mobile manufacturing, manufacturing of medical devices, automobiles and auto components, pharmaceuticals, drugs, specialty steel, telecom & networking products, electronic products, white goods (ACs and LEDs), food products, textile products, solar PV modules, advanced chemistry cell (ACC) battery, and drones and drone components.

Nationwide Roadshow on Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) Program

  • Union Minister of State for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Electronics & IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar flagged off the Nationwide Roadshow on Digital India RISC-V (DIR-V) Program.
  • This roadshow was jointly organized by C-DAC, IEEE India Council and Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY) with participation from global leaders in the RISC-V design area.
  • C-DAC has now created a series of ARIES Development Boards based on VEGA Processor Chip viz. ARIES Micro, ARIES V2, ARIES V3, ARIES IoT and ARIES DOT.
  • These development kits are fully indigenous and ‘Made in India’ products targeted for learning, embedded system design, and IoT applications.
  • The boards, built upon the RISC-V ISA-compliant VEGA Processor, come with easy-to-use hardware and software.

RBL Bank launched free mobile healthcare vans for support, domestic workers

  • RBL Bank announced the launch of its mobile health services for a broad category of support staff, including essential and domestic service personnel as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.
  • The initiative includes fully equipped mobile healthcare vans to provide complementary health and eye check-ups for those employed in residential neighbourhoods and gated communities.
  • The CSR activity will cater specifically to house helps, security guards, drivers, housekeeping staff, blue-collar workers and others working in similar role.
  • The initiative identifies a series of problems faced by these individuals and offers a comprehensive range of services, including health check-ups, vision correction, doctor consultations, and educational guidance on preventive healthcare for lifestyle conditions such as diabetes and cholesterol (lipid).

Punjab National Bank Introduced Digital Gold Loan

  • Punjab National Bank (PNB) launched the PNB Digital Gold Loan scheme.
  • The digital lending solution launched during the bank’s Digital Mahotsav event aims to provide a hassle-free credit to customers to quickly meet their personal as well as agriculture credit requirements by using gold jewellery and/or ornaments as collaterals.
  • The two schemes have been named PNB Gold Loan for the retail segment and PNB Swarnim for the agriculture segment.
  • The PNB Digital Gold Loan scheme allows individuals to borrow amounts ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 25 lakh for personal needs.
  • Additionally, the loan is available for supporting agriculture or allied activities.
  • Borrowers seeking short-term production and/or investment credit for agriculture activities, such as crop production, land-based activity other than crop cultivation, irrigation, and allied agriculture activities are eligible for loans of minimum Rs 10,000 to maximum Rs 2 lakh.
  • One key feature of PNB Digital Gold Loan is its streamlined digital process, covering everything from loan application, loan acceptance to loan account opening, security creation, documentation and disbursement, thus eliminating paperwork hassles.

Agreements and MoUs signed

Ministry of Ayush signed the Traditional and Complementary Medicine 'Project Collaboration Agreement' with World Health Organisation

  • The Ministry of Ayush and World Health Organization (WHO) have signed Traditional and Complementary Medicine ‘Project Collaboration Agreement’ in Geneva.
  • The main objective of this agreement is to standardize Traditional and Complementary Medical Systems, integrate their quality and safety aspects into the National Health System, and disseminate them at the international level.
  • Through this cooperation agreement, efforts will be made to connect Traditional and Complementary Medical Systems with the mainstream of the National Health System.
  • To fulfil this objective, Traditional Medicine Global Strategy 2025-34 will be prepared by WHO with the support of the Ministry of Ayush.
  • Other major objectives of the agreement include efforts to strengthen the system of training and practice in the field of Complementary Medicine System ‘Siddha’, formulation of guidelines for the listing of Traditional and Complementary Medicines, safety and related efforts, etc.
  • An International Herbal Pharmacopoeia of herbs found in South-East Asia will be developed by the Ministry in collaboration with WHO.
  • Efforts will be made under this agreement to integrate evidence-based Traditional and Complementary Medicines with the National Health System, conservation and management of biodiversity and medicinal plants, etc.

Small Industries Development Bank of India signed a MoU with Technology Development Board forge strategic alliance to boost MSMEs through Technology-Focused Financing

  • The Technology Development Board (TDB) and the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) have formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate easier access to credit for enterprises engaged in the development and commercial application of indigenous or imported technology.
  • Through this MoU, TDB and SIDBI have entered into a credit alliance, wherein TDB and SIDBI shall refer additional funding needs of companies they have previously funded to each other.
  • With dedicated key contacts, both organizations will streamline coordination for seamless referral exchange.
  • TDB and SIDBI will also provide financial support to eligible MSMEs, following their respective policy guidelines.
  • The collaboration extends beyond financial support, with the parties also planning joint outreach/marketing activities to promote the initiative and reach a wider audience.
  • The scope of these outreach/marketing activities will be mutually agreed upon during the implementation of the terms outlined in the MoU.
  • Technology Development Board (TDB), is a statutory body established by Government of India under Technology Development Board Act, 1995, to promote development and commercialization of indigenous technology and adaptation of imported technology for much wider application.

2nd Voice of Global South Summit

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses the inaugural session of the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit via a video conference.
  • The theme of the Inaugural Leaders’ Session is “Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust” and that of the Concluding Leaders’ Session is “Global South: Together for One Future”.
  • In addition, there will be eight Ministerial Sessions, with the following themes: Foreign Ministers’ Session on “India & the Global South: Emerging Together for a Better Future”, Education Ministers’ Session on “Making Human Resources Future Ready”, Finance Ministers’ Session on “Financing People-Centric Development”, Environment Ministers’ Session on “Sustainable Solutions for Climate Resilience and Climate Finance”.
  • It will also include Foreign Ministers’ Session on “Global South and One Development”, Energy Ministers’ Session on “Affordable & Inclusive Energy Transition for Sustainable Development”, Health Ministers’ Session on “Solutions from the Global South for One Health” and Commerce / Trade Ministers’ Session on “Global South & Resilient Supply Chains”.
  • This is the second time that India hosted the summit since January 2023.
  • The first summit was themed as “Energy Security and development: Roadmap to Prosperity” and has 10 sessions brought together 125 countries of the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform in the run up to G20 Leaders Summit that was held in September 2023 in New Delhi.
  • The virtual summit is one of the conclusive acts of India’s G20 presidency, and is expected to take stock of the commitments made during New Delhi G20 summit.

Softbank sold 2.5% stake in logistics firm Delhivery for Rs 739 crore

  • SVF Doorbell, an investment arm of Japanese investment major Softbank sold 49% stake in logistics firm Delhivery.
  • It sold 18.3 million shares at Rs 404 apiece to mop up Rs 739 crore.
  • As of September 2023, the SoftBank arm had held a 46% stake in Delhivery.

Obituary

S Venkitaramanan passed away

  • Former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India S Venkitaramanan passed away at 92.
  • He was the 18th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India and served for a period of two years.
  • He had also served as the Finance Secretary and later as an Adviser to the Government of Karnataka.

A.S. Byatt passed away

  • British author S. Byatt, whose books include the Booker Prize-winning novel Possession passed away at 87.
  • Byatt wrote two dozen books, starting with her first novel, The Shadow of the Sun in 1964.
  • Possession, published in 1990, follows two modern-day academics investigating the lives of a pair of Victorian poets.
  • Her other books include four novels set in the 1950s and 60s Britain and known as the Frederica Quartet — The Virgin in the Garden, published in 1978, followed by Still Life, Babel Tower and A Whistling Woman — and Booker Prize-shortlisted historical novel The Children’s Book, which won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 2009.
