Digital Government Senior Leaders program

  • A Digital Government Senior Leaders program is being conducted in collaboration with IIM-Bangalore with the participation of 21 officials from Central government and eight State/UT departments.
  • The six days intensive workshop is intended to equip the participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead and navigate the complexities of digital transformation in the government sector.
  • This program is organized by National e-Governance Division, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, under its Capacity Building scheme, and is designed to provide exposure to the concept of digital government – its benefits, and potential impact on public service delivery, citizen engagement, and organizational effectiveness; contemporary issues in managing large e-Governance projects, successful implementations of projects and the challenges faced.
  • This is the third such program in the series launched in August 2022 which has received encouraging feedback.

Annual UN Forum 2023 on ‘International Humanitarian Law & Peacekeeping’

  • United Service Institution of India (USI), the country’s oldest think-tank established in 1870 for research and debate on national security and military affairs, is organising its Annual UN Forum 2023 in New Delhi.
  • The forum on ‘International Humanitarian Law and Peacekeeping’ is being organised in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Centre for UN Peacekeeping Operations.
  • The forum aims to discuss the applicability and limitations of implementing IHL frameworks in UN peace operations through an interactive, multi-stakeholder approach.
  • The sessions will enable a deeper examination of some of the contemporary issues like the protection of civilians, accountability for crimes against peacekeepers, the role of women in peacekeeping operations, and leveraging technology for more effective operations.

    • The Ministry of Tourism organized the 11th edition of International Tourism Mart at Shillong, Meghalaya.
    • The International Tourism Mart is an annual event held by the Ministry in one of the North Eastern States on rotation basis, with an objective to provide a bigger platform to the North Eastern stakeholders to interact with their counterparts from both within the country and overseas markets as well as to create awareness about the tourism potential of North East Region (NER) and highlight its unique tourism products, rich bio diversity, unique intangible heritage including local traditions, dance forms, arts, handicrafts and handlooms to a domestic and international audience.

ABB formed strategic partnership with Titagarh for metro projects in India

  • ABB and Titagarh Rail Systems have formed a strategic partnership to supply propulsion systems for metro rolling stock projects in India.
  • The partnership aligned with the Indian government’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives has already had an early success by winning orders to design and supply equipment for metro coaches for Gujarat.
  • Titagarh specialises in design, manufacture, supply, commissioning, and servicing of various passenger rolling stock and metro coaches for Indian and international markets.
  • ABB, on the other hand, is established in the field of the design, manufacture and servicing of propulsion systems and electrical equipment relating to rolling stock used for railways and metro systems.
  • This strategic partnership brings the two companies together to build on their potential and synergy to become an established player in the Indian market and expand its market base to other projects and countries.
  • The partnership covers an agreement for Titagarh to purchase ABB propulsion systems, including traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors and train control management system (TCMS) software.

  • Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Parshottam Rupala inaugurated Global Fisheries Conference India 2023 at Gujarat Science City, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
  • The two-day conference is being organised by Department of Fisheries on the occasion of World Fisheries Day to bring together all the stakeholders for a sustainable fisheries sector.
  • One of the key event will be the International Roundtable led by Union Minister Parshottam Rupala with the foreign missions of France, New Zealand, Norway, Australia, Russia, Spain, Zimbabwe, Angola, Brazil and Greece, International organisations namely Food and Agriculture Organisation (UN-FAO), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Bay of Bengal Program (BoBP), Marine Stewardship Council India (MSC India) among others, Ministers from the States/UTs of Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himanchal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Goa and Andhra Pradesh along with senior officials from Department of Fisheries, National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), State/UT Fisheries Departments and Fisheries institutes.
  • The objective of the International Roundtable will be to discuss collaborations with international organizations, Ministries, research institutions among others on sustainable fishing practices, aquaculture technologies and resource management.

L&T Tech & NVIDIA will unveil Gen AI & advanced software for medical devices

  • Larsen and Toubro Technology Services (LTTS) announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to develop software-defined architectures for medical devices focused on endoscopy, which will enhance the image quality and scalability of products.
  • This comes as an answer to the industry-wide challenges of availability, cost, and dependencies linked to custom and proprietary hardware components.
  • The architecture is a scalable platform that supports multiple applications, providing a real-time decision-making tool for the medical fraternity.
  • Developed from the ground up, the architecture boasts an image processing pipeline for noise reduction, edge and contrast enhancement, texture and colour enhancement, and speckle correction.
  • What sets it apart is its inclusion of AI/ML models developed for the detection, identification, and classification of polyps – abnormal growths often found during colonoscopies.

Andhra Pradesh leads in setting up pumped storage hydropower projects with potential of 42,020 MW

  • Andhra Pradesh is at the forefront of setting up Pumped Storage Hydropower Projects (PSHPs) with an aggregate potential of 42,020 megawatts.
  • Of the total 37 projects, the 1,680 megawatt (MW) Pinnapuram project in Nandyal district is likely to be completed in 2024 as the reservoir works have been completed and the powerhouse is under construction.
  • Next in line are the Gandikota (1,000 MW) and Chitravathi (500 MW) projects, for which all permissions have been obtained.
  • The remaining 34 projects are in different stages of obtaining various clearances from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Geological Survey of India (GSI) Central Water Commission (CWC), Central Soil and Materials Research Station,
  • Out of these 37 projects, feasibility and detailed project reports have been submitted for 21 projects with a total capacity of 21,250 MW for approvals by the above departments or agencies.

Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace 2022

  • The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, 2022, was awarded jointly to the Indian Medical Association and the Trained Nurses Association of India as representatives of the Covid warriors in the country.
  • Former Vice President M Hamid Ansari presented the award to Sharad Kumar Agarwal, the president of the Indian Medical Association, and Roy K George, the president of the Trained Nurses Association of India.
  • The award instituted in the name of Indira Gandhi, one of the most remarkable leaders of the 20th century, aims at honouring women, men and institutions that have done exemplary work in the service of humanity and the planet Earth.
  • It is being conferred every year since 1986 by Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust.
  • It consists of a monetary award of ₹25 lakh along with a citation.

Miss Universe 2023

  • Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua was crowned the 2023 Miss Universe at the culmination of the annual beauty pageant, which took place in El Salvador’s capital, San Salvador.
  • Anntonia Porsild of Thailand placed as first runner-up.
  • Palacios’ win marks the first-ever time a Nicaraguan woman has won Miss Universe.
  • She had previously represented Nicaragua in the 2017 Teen Miss Universe pageant, placing in the top 10, and in the 2021 Miss World pageant.
  • The winners of 84 countries’ national pageants had competed at this year’s Miss Universe, judged by a panel including model Halima Aden, “Queer Eye” star Carson Kressley, TikTok influencer Avani Gregg and two former Miss Universe winners, Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad & Tobago (Miss Universe 1977) and Iris Mittenaere of France (Miss Universe 2016).

  • The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is annually observed on the third Sunday in November.
