Exams for constables in CAPFs to be conducted in 13 regional languages, Hindi and English

  • Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the conduct of constable (general duty) examination for Central Armed Police Forces in 13 regional languages Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri and Konkani in addition to Hindi and English.
  • The CAPFs are the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the National Security Guard (NSG).

NHAI enables FASTag based payments at forest entry points

  • To facilitate seamless and efficient entry process for vehicles entering into the forest area, Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company incorporated by NHAI to carry out Electronic Tolling, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve spread across the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
  • Over 2.55 crore FASTags have been issued through multiple Point of Sale (PoS).
  • As a result, FASTag transaction has crossed a landmark count of 5.0 million per day.

EAM Dr S Jaishankar inaugurates Buzi Bridge in Mozambique built by India

  • Dr Jaishankar virtually inaugurated the Buzi Bridge, constructed as part of 132 km Tica-Buzi-Nova-Sofala Road project.
  • The bridge has been by built by India.
  • The External Affairs Minister took a ride in a Made in India train from Maputo to Machava.

12th Session of India-Spain Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation

  • Commerce Secretary, Shri Sunil Barthwal, and Ms. Xiana Mendez, Secretary of State for Trade, Government of Spain co-chaired the 12th Session of India-Spain Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation (JCEC) in New Delhi.
  • Both sides celebrated this Golden Jubilee edition of India-Spain Joint Commission mechanism which was established in 1972.
  • With an investment of USD 3.7 billion, 250 Spanish Companies are active in India and 40 Indian Companies are present in Spain working in different sectors such as IT, Pharma, Renewable Energy, Automobiles, Infrastructure etc.

KCR unveils 125-ft tall bronze statue of Dr B R Ambedkar on his 132nd birth anniversary

  • Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao unveiled a 125-feet tall bronze statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at the Hussain Sagar lake on his 132nd birth anniversary.
  • The Chief Minister along with former MP and grandson of Babasaheb, Prakash Ambedkar unveiled the statue.
  • The statue is the tallest of Ambedkar in the country, made of over 360 tonnes of steel and 100 tonnes of bronze, and cost nearly Rs 145 crore.
  • The state government had also instituted an Award in the name of Babasaheb Dr. B R Ambedkar commemorating his birth anniversary.
  • The Chief Minister said, 51 crore rupees corpus will be formed for the award and every year the award worth 3 crore rupees will be given on the birth anniversary of Babasaheb to anyone who contributes for Dalit Welfare.

SBI reintroduces 400 days ‘Amrit Kalash’ retail term deposit scheme

  • State Bank of India has reintroduced retail term deposit scheme ‘Amrit Kalash’ of 400 days tenure at 7.10 per cent interest rate.
  • The scheme is available from April 12, 2023 till June 30, 2023.
  • Senior citizens will get additional interest of 50 basis points on the scheme.
  • India’s largest bank had first floated this scheme on February 15, 2023.
  • It was valid up to March-end 2023.
  • This scheme comes at a time when banking system’s deposit growth is lagging credit growth.
  • As of March 24, 2023, the banking system’s deposit growth was at 9.6 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) against credit growth of 14.5 per cent y-o-y.
  • Term deposits accounted for 55.51 per cent of SBI’s domestic deposits of ₹40,48,149 crores as at December-end 2023.

Chennai Metro launched National Common Mobility Card

  • Chennai Metro Rail had launched National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) or Singara Chennai Card with State Bank of India that commuters can use in different transport systems in the city and metro systems across the country.
  • Commuters travelling to other cities can use the card now when they take a trip in MMRDA Mumbai Line 2A and 7, Bengaluru Metro, Delhi Metro Airport Line, Kanpur Metro, BEST buses Mumbai and Kadamba Transport Buses in Goa.
  • In future, commuters can swipe these cards for travel in MTC buses, suburban trains, parking and retail outlets.
  • Commuters can purchase these cards in seven stations, including Koyambedu, Chennai Central, Chennai airport, High Court, Alandur and Thirumangalam and they can top it up for a maximum of ₹2,000.
  • While the card is issued free of cost by SBI in stations, commuters will have to provide an identity proof and they will be levied a charge of 1.8% of the amount they recharge in the card.

SIDBI launches new financing solution for electric vehicle space

  • Small Industries Development Bank of India has announced the launch of a pilot scheme for better financing terms in electric vehicle space and strengthening the whole ecosystem.
  • The pilot phase of ‘Mission 50K-EV4ECO’ aims at strengthening the EV ecosystem, including uptake for two, three and four-wheelers through direct and indirect lending, Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).
  • The pilot scheme, which is the precursor to EVOLVE scheme by SIDBI-World Bank, has two components — direct lending and indirect lending.
  • This pilot will be followed by scaling up support to the ecosystem from multilateral support.

PSU banks set target for selling flagship government insurance schemes in FY24

  • Public sector banks (PSBs) have set a target for the sale of flagship government insurance schemes Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) in FY24.
  • Besides, they have also set goals for other financial inclusion schemes like Mudra Yojana and StandUp India Scheme.
  • There are about 8.3 crore beneficiaries under PMJJBY and 23.9 crore under PMSBY, as of now.
  • Since the launch of the schemes in 2015, 15.99 crore enrolment has taken place under PMJJBY, while 33.78 crore under PMSBY as of March 31, 2023.
  • Last year, the finance ministry revised rates from Rs 330 to Rs 436 under PMJJBY and from Rs 12 to Rs 20 for PMSBY, effective June 1, 2022.

Aadhaar brought down KYC cost to ₹3 from as high as ₹700

  • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that Aadhaar has brought down the cost of KYC to ₹3 from as high as ₹700.
  • At the same time, the cost of loan processing has been lowered by almost 75 per cent.

US emerges as India's biggest trading partner in FY23 at USD 128.55 bn; China at second position

  • The US has emerged as India’s biggest trading partner in 2022-23 on account of increasing economic ties between the two countries.
  • The bilateral trade between India and the US has increased by 7.65 per cent to USD 128.55 billion in 2022-23 as against USD 119.5 billion in 2021-22.
  • It was USD 80.51 billion in 2020-21.
  • Exports to the US rose by 2.81 per cent to USD 78.31 billion in 2022-23 as against USD 76.18 billion in 2021-22, while imports grew by about 16 per cent to USD 50.24 billion.
  • India’s bilateral trade with China declined by about 1.5 per cent to USD 113.83 billion as against USD 115.42 billion in 2021-22.
  • Exports to China dipped by about 28 per cent to USD 15.32 billion in 2022-23, while imports rose by 4.16 per cent to USD 98.51 billion in the last fiscal.
  • The trade gap widened to USD 83.2 billion in the last fiscal as against USD 72.91 billion in 2021-22.

  • India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Food Programme (WFP) paving the way for sending 10,000 metric tonnes of wheat for the people of Afghanistan.
  • The signing ceremony between officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and the United Nations WFP was held in Mumbai.

  • The three-day International Conference on Defence Finance and Economics (ICDFE-2023) concluded in New Delhi.

  • Organised by Ministry of Defence (Finance), it witnessed participation of over 350 eminent policy makers, academics and government officials from within the country and abroad.

  • The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has made a list ranking the Indian chief ministers by the value of their assets.
  • There are 30 chief ministers in India for 28 states and two union territories.
  • Among 30 Chief Ministers of India, 29 (97 per cent) are crorepatis (millionaires) with assets at an average of Rs 33.96 crore.

World Art Day

  • The 17th General Assembly of the International Association of Art in Guadalajara declared April 15 as World Art Day.
  • The date was decided in honor of the birthday of Leonardo da Vinci.

  • 1st observed in 2012.

World Voice Day

  • World Voice Day is annually observed on April 16.

IAF to participate in multilateral international exercise, Orion in France

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent participated in Exercise Orion at Mont-De-Marsan, an air force base of the French Air and Space Force (FASF) in France.
  • IAF Contingent comprising four Rafale, two C-17, two ll-78 aircraft and 165 air warriors.
  • This would be the first overseas exercise for the IAF’s Rafale aircraft.
  • Besides the IAF and the FASF, Air Forces from Germany, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Spain and United States of America would also be flying in this multilateral exercise.
