India will be the biggest carbon market in the world by 2030, says BEE

  • By 2030, India will be the biggest carbon market in the world, Abhay Bakre, Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
  • The BEE, a government body, will administer India’s carbon trading, which is to be rolled out soon.
  • Bakre has made this point in a press release issued to provide information about a recent study by the World Resources Institute (WRI) on carbon markets in India.

Andhra to install 18 lakh smart meters on farm motors

  • The Andhra Pradesh government will install as many as 18 lakh smart meters on farm electric motors within a year, including spending Rs 4,000 crore to procure allied material.
  • The state will follow the guidelines issued by the Central Government and Central Electricity Authority (CEA), even as these smart meters are aimed at arresting power theft among several other benefits.

GRSE signs MoU with KEL for research & development of lightweight bailey bridge

  • Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kerala Electrical & Allied Engineering (KEL), a state-owned enterprise of Kerala, for the joint research and development of a lightweight bailey bridge with a carbon fiber composite deck.
  • Under the MoU, KEL will also design and develop dry-type transformers and alternators as per Navy specifications.

Telangana targets to develop 72 Industrial Parks in 30,000 acres in 5 years

  • Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao has said that the State government has targeted to develop 72 Industrial Parks spreading over 30,000 acres in the next 5 years.
  • In the last 8 years, we have developed 55 industrial parks across 28,500 acres.
  • Compare this with 109 industrial parks developed in 26,000 acres in the last 40 years.

NARCL acquires Helios Photovoltaic

  • The National Asset Reconstruction Company (NARCL), the state-sponsored bad bank, closed its second purchase of bad debt by acquiring Helios Photovoltaic, earlier known as Moser Baer Photo.
  • The government-backed bad debt company paid ₹35 crores for the ₹614 crores of bad loans, equating to a recovery of 5% for lenders.
  • PNB Investment Services was the process advisor for lenders led by the State Bank of India, PNB, Canara Bank and Union Bank of India.
  • NARCL has bought the debt under the 15:85 structure, where it has paid 15% in cash and the remaining in security receipts (SR).
  • These SRs are guaranteed by the government.

Redseer to invest $15-20 million in tech in 5 years

  • Redseer Strategy Consultants, a strategy consulting firm, will invest $15-20 million in technology over a period of five years.
  • The company is looking to scale up its revenues to $100 million in the next five years, Anil Kumar, CEO of Redseer Strategy Consultants.

Sebi asks investors to link PAN with Aadhaar by March 31

  • Capital markets regulator Sebi asked all investors to link their PAN with Aadhaar number by March-end for continual and smooth transactions in the securities market.
  • The non-compliance with this would be considered non-KYC compliant, and there could be restrictions on securities and other transactions until the Permanent Account Number (PAN) and Aadhaar are linked.

Alembic Pharmaceuticals gets USFDA nod for hypertension drug

  • Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited announced that it has received final approval from the US health regulatory, USFDA, for its abbreviated new drug application of Prazosin Hydrochloride Capsules, which is used for treatment of hypertension.
  • The approved ANDA (abbreviated new drug application) is therapeutically equivalent to the reference listed drug product (RLD), Minipress Capsules, 1 mg, 2 mg, and 5 mg, of Pfizer Inc.

US hands over NISAR satellite to ISRO

  • The US Air Force handed over NISAR, an earth observation satellite jointly developed by NASA and ISRO, to the Indian space agency.
  • A US Air Force C-17 aircraft carrying the NASA-ISRO synthetic aperture radar (NISAR) has landed in Bengaluru.
  • NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) will be used by ISRO for a variety of purposes including agricultural mapping, and landslide-prone areas.
  • The satellite is expected to be launched in 2024 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh, into a near-polar orbit.
  • The satellite will be the first radar imaging satellite to use dual frequencies.

RS Chairperson Dhankhar appoints personal staff on 20 committees

  • Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar appointed eight members of his personal staff on 20 committees under the ambit of the Upper House Secretariat.
  • Eight members of Dhankhar’s personal staff, including four posted in the Vice-President Secretariat, have been appointed on the 20 committees.
  • Eight committees include four department-related parliamentary standing committees and four other parliamentary standing committees.
  • These include committees headed by non-BJP and opposition MPs.
  • Among those appointed to the committees include the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice-President, OSD to the Chairman and Personal Secretary to the Vice-President.

Group Captain Shaliza Dhami becomes first woman officer to command frontline IAF combat unit

  • Group Captain Shaliza Dhami has become the first woman officer in the Indian Air Force to command a front line combat unit.
  • Dhami will command a missile squadron in the Western sector.
  • Dhami was commissioned as helicopter pilot in 2003, and has over 2800 hours of flying experience and is commended by Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief on two occasions.
