Syllabus for SSC Exams

Logical Reasoning

Marks to be scored: 45+

This part is considered to be the most scoring part in Tier I Examination if you have a regular practice in this

It consists of verbal and non verbal

Maximum time you could spend for this section is 15

If you can maintain accuracy and have the confident to score more than 4 marks in this section, then you can spend even 15 minutes. But keep in mind, that if you can score more than 45 marks alone in this section, you should spend 15 minutes or else manage to spend 10-15 minutes.

Skip the questions that take more time to solve and try to attend questions that you feel easy because anyhow each question carries same

Non verbal takes less time compared to verbal. So attend those questions first, then try attempting verbal and arithmetic based reasoning

During the eschaton, if you have time avoid trying out questions from other sections and better spend those of your precious time for Reasoning section. Because each question from other sections carry the same weightage as this section does but the gain is that if you attend questions in other sections, there is a possibility for you to make a mistake but here in this section you can be confident even if you score one mark for one question that you attend.

General Awareness

Marks to be scored: 25 – 30+

Many candidates have a feeling that this is the toughest section to

This section carries around 8% in your SSC CGL Examination i.e., Tier I – 200 marks + Tier II – 400 marks = 600

To make it easier, our RACE Institute has made all possible questions as Circle materials. If you attend the classes and read the one liners(SAMRAT) and other materials that we provide, this section is not as difficult as you guys think. We are nearly providing more than 4000 questions which is easy to study. Current affairs questions are to a maximum of 4-6 marks which is very basic and need not to be worried.

Maximum time you spend for this section should be less than 10 minutes, because you don’t have to solve any question, so maximum time can be reduced in this section.

You have to maintain accuracy in this part and try to attend minimum 15-20 questions and score the above mentioned marks.

Quantitative Aptitude

Marks to be scored: 40 – 45

Quantitative aptitude is the most important area in the SSC CGL exam and the deciding area for a candidate in the merit

If you are having decent basic concepts of Mathematics, then this section will be your favorite and highest scoring section. We will discuss the SSC CGL Syllabus, books and a bulletproof strategy to crack this section

Smart way to score 35+ in Aptitude

Aptitude section occupies the top spot in terms of the weight-age.

50/200 in Prelims and 200/400 in Mains makes it 250/600 or 67% of your success (or failure) in SSC CGL.

Focus on important topics: List down Important Topics and make sure you study those topics and practice lot of

Focus should be more on topics like Mensuration, Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, Profit-Loss, Number system, Percentage, Data

Maximum time you spend for this section should be 25

Go Through Previous Year Question Papers: This will help candidates to have an idea of the examination pattern. Aspirants should practice the papers during the revision time so that they can know the time limit and can practice their weak areas. This is one of the best strategy because SSC repeats the same models every year and number of candidates gets through SSC CGL Exam by just solving past 10 year question

Books much preferred for SSC Aptitude:

R S Agarwal Aptitude: Best book for candidates who are weak in aptitude basics. For Tier

SSC Maths Chapterwise Solved Papers since 1997-till date: It is very important to go through previous years question paper by For Tier I.

Quantum Cat by Sarvesh K Verma: Good book for Elementary Maths (Mensuration and Trigonometry), just solve introductory exercises and Level-1 exercise only. For Tier I &

Quick Arithmetic by Ashish Agarwal: This book mainly focuses on shortcut formulas and useful methods covering all topics in aptitude. For Tier

English Language and Comprehension

Marks to be scored: 30 – 40+

English is one section which can be easily cracked when compared to other sections and has to be answered in less than 10

It just needs to focus on certain topics like Error Spotting, Comprehension, One Word Substitution, Idioms & Phrases for which we RACE institute give

Other than that, for Error Spotting to learn from basics, S.P.Bakshi is much preferred book.

For Comprehension, candidates should practice more, which is made possible during the mock test

Synonyms & Antonyms, Candidates can refer past 10 years question papers and their options so they don’t have to be afraid

Time to be spend on each section

Note: We prefer you candidates to take up minimum time for minimum marks & vice- versa. If you take maximum time too, you are advised to score more marks in that specified duration.

Time Management Tips are as Follows

Practice with Stopwatch on your side

For any aspiring SSC candidate, it is a must to keep a stopwatch by their side while preparing. Apart from the tenacity of the questions, what matters is that of the allotted time for solving those questions. One needs to practice so well in the paper, so that he/she can answer most number of questions that too keeping the accuracy factor in mind. This also helps you to improve your time and boosts your confidence just before the examination.

Skip Questions that are troubling much

There are 100 questions in tier I, and if at any point it is felt by the candidate that a certain question is troubling them much, they should immediately move away from that particular question and try and solve other known ones. Rather than sticking to any particular question, it is advisable to move along.

Go through Practice sets and Mock Question Papers

Mock question papers and practice sets can help the candidates to prepare for the examination effectively. By solving these sets you could have an idea of how many questions you are solving on the given time and try to improve that by applying and innovating newer techniques for solving problems through constant practice. RACE Institute has been conducting number of Mock Tests for this purpose online

Do not go for everything: You certainly don’t want to get in trap of “Getting Everything” under your belt. Thus, you should set a target for yourself while you are preparing for any section and decide how many questions you are going to attempt with accuracy to be on top of anything. You should keep an eye on quality of your answers rather than the quantity as doing this you could also avoid negative markings which can take down your chances of getting.
